First thread is full and I couldn’t see a new one to continue it so thought I’d make it so we can all carry on chatting.

Anybody else’s skin becoming really dry? My lower legs in particular have dry patches I didn’t have before. My back has become a bit spotty too. I’m week 3 day 5.

Hi all, so nice to read your messages. I’m so glad we have a space to talk to each other!

I’ve not told anyone in my life apart from my husband. I was thinking about this last night.. once I start dropping the weight people are going to be asking about it. I haven’t decided what I am going to say yet. If I say I’ve been a diet or I’ve been ‘eating less and moving more’ (I hate that saying!), whilst true, it’s not completely true. Has anyone decided what they are going to do when that comes up?

W1D6 for me and everything is going well. Food noise has completely gone and my hunger has been struck dead. I do not care about food. I can’t be arsed with it. This is only the first week so it could change but it’s been so nice to have a mental break from thinking about food.

I had just a glass of Buck’s Fizz with my neighbour and came home and had the shits so maybe that’s something to be avoided for the time being!

I will do my injection tomorrow morning as I was fine with it last week.

Have a great day all!

I lost a lot of weight some years ago with slimming world, and when people asked me how I did it I told them that it was mostly choosing lower Gi foods, reducing treats like wine and chocolate and not eating bread anymore.

I also used the pinch of nom cookbooks too!

I was planning to say the same thing again (because it is true) but not mentioning that this time I am being supported by MJ.

It’s perfectly acceptable to admit that you have ‘tweaked’ your diet without mentioning that you are having some extra help unless you want to.

recklessgran · 21/10/2024 15:52

I'm just saying I'm low carbing - true, and it won't be a surprise to anyone since I've had success with it before and lost 3 stone. Nobody needs to know that I've been trying and failing all year to get back on it without success - until 4 days ago!!

Mamato4R · 21/10/2024 15:55

I lost 9 stone a few years ago on Keto. I found either people completely ignored it. Like the elephant in the room. Despite going from a 22 to a small 8. Or they would want to know EXACTLY what I had eaten that day.
I'm just going to say I'm low carbing again. I've been on metformin before which for me did a very similar job as this does (for my body anyway) and I didn't feel the need to tell people what meds I take. Pcos and 4 x gd babies x

Littlelunch · 21/10/2024 16:27

My poor tummy is going nuts after eating some lentil soup for lunch. Only only day 1 so hoping it settles. Any tips? I'm drinking some peppermint tea to try and help. Also burping A LOT!

killamounjaro · 21/10/2024 16:30

Most of my friends and family know I'm a bit of a joker and often come out with what I think are witty comments, so I'm going to just say 'oh it's all drugs' with a wink for comedic effect WinkGrinGrin

18lbs down in 3.5 weeks. I’m happy with that!

I was injecting a day or so early every week, and then moved myself up to 5mg four days after my last 2.5mg. Wouldn’t advise anyone else does it, but I just went with how I felt / suppression.

Side Effects still minimal.

Did you do that because you didn't feel you had enough suppression? 18lb in 3 weeks is a huge amount to lose

I've made a last-minute booking to take my two boys away next week. I must be mad! Anyway, currently my 4th injection will be due right in the middle of the holiday (going away Monday - Friday and I inject on a Wed) and I REALLY don't want to take it with me. Anxious enough as it is, it's their first time flying and I'm on my own with them. Luggage space is very limited and I do not want to be taking needles and a sharps bin! Did my first jab weds evening, second weds morning, so I'm thinking of doing my third Tues morning (tomorrow) and 4th Monday morning before we go. I know it's not ideal, but the instructions do say you can inject early as long as there's enough space between jabs. I like the idea of my regular injection day being a Monday going forward too. Feels like a good start to the week. Any thoughts?

The information in my leaflet says you can change your day as long as 72 hours in between. So I PERSONALLY would feel totally comfortable with what you have suggested. I would also do the same and not want to take anything with me. Hope you have a lovely time. I love Oct half term!
My aunts gp and diabetic nurse suggested all kinds of alternative ways to take her injections when she started. Splitting doses was or changing days was mentioned in those meetings.

That pen looks like it's had 4 out of it already.. have you by any chance mis counted??? .

That would be the 5th dose and the hard twist people talk about.. u just need to force the twist bit round..

Have you already done 4? It looks like the amount left in there is the 5th ‘bonus done’. There’s too much gone for it to only be 3 doses missing, I think.

Iv attached my pen. Iv had 2 doses out of it, my 3rd dose will take me to the 3 and my 4th will take me to week 4. The bit at the end is what is left over for priming and some people use it as an extra bonus dose but the pen won’t move easily for it.

@Mamato4R and @morbidcuriosity thank you both. That's what I was thinking. At least it will be one less thing to think about while I'm away!

Bassetthounddog · 21/10/2024 19:34

Ah, I did wonder if I messed up a dose recently- how frustrating! It’s almost impossible to twist so goodness knows how to get the ‘golden dose’ out . Thanks for your advice. 😣

If you twist the pen really hard, you should be able to get it up to the 1 and still use. You are essentially breaking the pen to get the last dose.

otherwise Iv heard people say they use pliers to twist it.

Just twist really hard.. I had my bonus this morning from mine.. feels like you are breaking it.. but it does work, and you will get another full dose put..

I can totally understand why SunQueen24 only has 10kg to loose, given her height.

I am 5ft tall

SW - 11st 1lb BMI 30.3
CW - 10st 9.4lb BMI 29.3 (one week of MJ has taken me to overweight rather than obese)

according to the NHS BMI tracker:

The best weight for your height is between 6 stone 11 pounds and 9 stone 2 pounds.

My starting healthy weight is 9st 2lb which is approximately 1st 7 lbs less than my current weight or 10.78kg.

That’s definitely my first target, but would ideally like to land midway at about 8st the threshold for blood donation)

The problem I have is that despite exercise and trying to eat healthy, for the last few years my weight has crept up, but I gained a lot when I started HRT for perimenopause- I had to stop taking it five months ago because it exacerbated my Adenomyosis which was almost certainly caused by two c- sections and I had 8 weeks of continuous bleeding leaving my exhausted and constantly eating chocolate and snacks just to get through the day. I had to go through scans and a hysteroscopy to check it wasn’t cancer which was terrifying.

After stopping HRT the perimenopause symptoms got worse, night sweats, hot flushes and fatigue which continued the cycle of looking for a quick energy boost from snacking constantly.

My weight kept increasing, I went on an all inclusive holiday, again increasing my weight, I came home tried calorie counting to loose weight, but the hunger was unbearable and I think after two months I hadn’t actually lost any weight, which is why I decided to try this!

Both of my parents died in their early 60s from cancer, my Mums weight almost certainly contributed to hers and definitely impacted her treatment options, as did her smoking, drinking and lack of any exercise.

At my heaviest after my eldest daughter was born I was 13 stone, but managed to get my weight to where I am now, just under the obese category, though exercise and breast feeding on demand for a year. I them joined slimming world and got to 8st 4lb which I maintained for a few years, until lockdown which saw the weight gain start and the onset of perimenopause.

It’s scary to reveal your weight when people think that it’s not that bad and compare your weight with other people. I haven’t revealed mine until now because I worried people would say that it wasn’t bad enough to take MJ. The thing is that if I hadn’t started MJ now, I would simply be starting it in 6 months time with an extra stone to loose.

It’s also the reason why I have only told my husband that I have started MJ, I don’t need people to tell me that I should just eat more healthily or exercise more because I have tried it and it’s no longer enough to make a difference when I have relentless hunger.

MJ has been so incredibly helpful in that and it’s the reason why I can finally focus on eating healthier and get some control back.

I hope no one judges me for my post, but I feel in a world where we are constantly judged for our weight, age and appearance that everyone should feel that it’s ok to talk about their weight honestly and without fear of criticism.

We are all on our own journey and we should never compare ourselves to each other.

MJ is amazing because it’s clearly helping a lot of people loose weight, to feel better and healthier and more confident.

Edited

I’m totally with you. I’m 5.1 1/2 and started off at 11.5 which for my height put me into the obese category too. I’m now 10.8 which means I’m in the overweight category. I know this is a goal weight for some people but then they are much taller/different builds. I’m petite so need all my weight ! We can’t compare ourselves as weight is relative to your size etc.

For me I should be about 8st 7lbs for a healthy BMI, so have or had 3 stone to lose. I felt bad saying what my weight was too because it doesn’t sound so awful but for my size it is!!

Like you, menopause has been really hard. I’ve piled on the weight. I had breast cancer 10 years ago and believe it or not I put on loads of weight (due to steroids which you need to cope with the chemo) I actually thought at least I might lose weight during treatment!!! Chemo put me into an early menopause.

Anyway, despite exercising and eating healthy diet I found myself binge eating because I was tired and to cope with symptoms of not sleeping etc.id have 2-3 glasses of wine on a Friday and Saturday night and completely undo everything I’d achieved during the week. I've just kept going up not down- or I’d lose a couple of pounds by fasting and then put it straight back, plus some!

I really needed something to pull me out of this cycle and quickly, otherwise I think post Christmas I would probably have had 4 + stone to lose. MJ has given me the momentum I needed to make changes.

Thank you so much for your honesty and I’m sure no one here will judge, we’ve all taken the decision carefully and we all need the help that MJ brings to get to a healthy weight for us.
