First thread is full and I couldn’t see a new one to continue it so thought I’d make it so we can all carry on chatting.

@SunQueen24 @envbeckyc Like you i have started at a lower BMI than a lot of people on here, and am also short, 5'1". My SW was 11st3lb and i am aiming to get close to 9st6lb.

I'm coming to the end of my second week and am now around a BMI of 29 so if i move suppliers i suspect it has to be for the long term. I am going to look around at who will prescribe to me - and then go back to MedExpress and see if they will price match. But i am also going to ask them about their maintenance programme, I would like to be on this long enough to really create better eating and gym habits which will be consistent even once i come off

Every week you inject you accumulate more in your system, due to the long half life of five days, hence the slow build up, because over that first month you’re getting used to more in your system each week. So when you move to 5, you are able to take it.

id also follow the medical guidelines. Its easy to be tempted, but folks don’t overdose on other medication or take it when its past its use by date and I personally will follow the same for this,it’s also important to manage hunger and diet as we go through this process.

She can but she'd be unwise to do so without direction from a medical professional. People shouldn't make up advice on medical stuff other than to say follow the dose and speak to a medical professional. It worries me how unregulated all this is and people come on advising people to just do what they want.

Edited

It’s fully regulated, but like any prescribed medication they rely on people following the guidelines and no abusing it.

So I took my Wk 3 jab a day late and did the thigh this morning not stomach.

My cast iron suppression has completely gone this afternoon.

I am STARVING. Like full blown could eat a Christmas dinner, mince pie with clotted cream AND a cheese board for after, STARVING 😫

Hi all, can someone please explain the hard twist method? I'm on my 3rd week at 2.5mg and think I'll have some left over in mine, how do we work out how much is left and what we should top up by? Thank you

Without drawing it up in an insulin syringe you have no idea exaxtly how much is left over. I've read of people having anywhere between 0.4 and 0.9mls left over which of a 2.5mg pen would be anywhere between and 1.7mg and 3.75mg.

Obviously there are risks of drawing it up especially if you are not used to doing so.

Hiya, newbie here. On day 3, other than a slight bit of nausea, it's been OK so far. Sticking to small, highly nutritious meals. Did a bit of cheat first weigh in, 🤫, afternoon after a big meal and fully clothed. I usually weigh first thing pre shower.

I'd lost 2st last Nov to this Apr on prescribed phentermine. Peri-Meno kicked in and I've pretty much maintained until now. Trying to kick start another 2st loss with MJ and so far seems to be good 👍. I'll read through now and catch up.

I think I will stick with Medexpress but I use Cashback websites to order (Quidco and Top Cashback) which helps a little with the price.

If can can order on a bonus day you can get extra money added to your Cashback account in addition to the Cashback offered that day. The Cashback rates do vary from day to day though and between the two websites so it’s worth checking them.

When I decided to start MJ I decided in my head that it would probably take at least six months to retrain my body to accept the amount of food that it needs, and to lose the weight as I hope to lose 1lb to 2lb per week on MJ - knowing that as my weight decreases the weekly weight loss will to.

Littlelunch · 21/10/2024 13:25

Hi. Newbie here. Took my first injection last night.

Currently 13st4 and 5'6. Hoping to lose 2-3 stone.

Some mild side effects - gurgling tummy, lots of burping and funny taste in my mouth.

So far have only had a smoothie today but feeling a bit peckish so having soup for lunch.

Going to re order next pen now as I believe Med Express are advising slightly longer wait times. I received my pen a couple of weeks ago but decided to wait until back from holiday to start taking it.

I’m not making up medical advice. I’m offering advice on what I would do if I was taking it and it wasnt working. No one needs to police other peoples actions or thoughts.
We are not all 100% sticklers for rules.

Out of curiosity do you do this with other prescribed medication? Just take more of it than the dosage prescribed?

Bakedpumpkin · 21/10/2024 10:46

3rd jab done - gained 1kg last week 😥does anyone think the provider will allow dose increase sooner as the starter dose is not having any effect for me.

I have been reading the information from the trial data on the Mounjaro and the 2.5mg dose is there to get your body used to the medication, it’s not expected to see results on the low dose. I think sometimes we can be disheartened by reading posts and seeing TikTok reels where people are losing lots of weight on 2.5, but we all react differently.
Once you have started the 5 mg dose you should start to see better results, increase too early and you could risk adverse side effects. I haven’t seen much suppression this week (I take my 3rd dose on Wednesday) and I’m impatiently waiting to up to 5mg, but slow and steady in this case is the best option. 😊

You are making up medical advice. What you would do is irrelevant and could potentially be really dangerous to someone else which is why only a medical professional should give advice.

Yes I spoke to my doctor about it, the first month is just accumulating so your body can accept it, it’s a medicine that needs titrating up, there is some very severe side effects, and we need to use it like any other prescription only medication and in line with the dosage medically required.

it’s frustrating, but I think we cannot forget this is a prescribed and very serious medication, that can have potentially life threatening effects if not used right, so using it as per the doctors instructions is important. Just like any other drug.

I think also people forget that. The poster will be on 5mg soon enough, but just now she needs to allow her body to acclimatise and then move up safely.

MissSmith80 · 21/10/2024 14:24

Week 1 D6 for me.

I thought I was losing some suppression yesterday, my good intentions of not having roast potatoes with the dinner I cooked went out the window. But on reflection, this was the first weekend in ages (months, maybe years) that I didn't have any cake, crisps or chocolate. I wasn't even tempted by the left over party food at my son's friends party on Sunday - so don't think 2 roast potatoes was too bad.

Have stayed within my 1200 calorie limit every day with ease and have exercised every day in addition to my usual dog walk.

Not expecting a miracle tomorrow when I weigh, but if I have lost a couple of pounds I'll be really chuffed - this feels completely 'do-able' long term so other than the cost of the pens, I'm fine with this being a moderate-long term approach.

Thanks for keeping this thread so active - it really does help.

Thanks for your input, I literally feel nothing hence no concern for me about moving up. Haven’t had any side effects in 3 weeks. At the start I felt a bit fuller after eating but that stopped after 4 days. I have messaged my provider to ask if I can go up earlier than another months time.

No - it’s supposed to be a lifestyle change so it’s ok along with a healthy diet!

HansHolbein · 21/10/2024 15:07

Hi all, so nice to read your messages. I’m so glad we have a space to talk to each other!

I’ve not told anyone in my life apart from my husband. I was thinking about this last night.. once I start dropping the weight people are going to be asking about it. I haven’t decided what I am going to say yet. If I say I’ve been a diet or I’ve been ‘eating less and moving more’ (I hate that saying!), whilst true, it’s not completely true. Has anyone decided what they are going to do when that comes up?

W1D6 for me and everything is going well. Food noise has completely gone and my hunger has been struck dead. I do not care about food. I can’t be arsed with it. This is only the first week so it could change but it’s been so nice to have a mental break from thinking about food.

I had just a glass of Buck’s Fizz with my neighbour and came home and had the shits so maybe that’s something to be avoided for the time being!

I will do my injection tomorrow morning as I was fine with it last week.

Have a great day all!

I've found I'm fine after eating sweet/rich things but fatty/greasy/fried things are a big no, I'm sure you will found out soon though...

I'm not completely cutting out treats as it's not realistic to stick to once I'm off the injections.
