They say to move up each month which I have done

But then the lower doses don't seem to do much for me not give me any real symptoms so I have gone up

Those who struggle /feel sick /can't eat on lower doses don't move up

I know 1-2lbs a week is healthy and normal but I can do that on sw so do kinda think what the point of mj

But I shall continue and see what happens

3kg in 5 weeks @owlyboo (I used the bonus dose).

I've got another 5mg pen so I think I'll use that for a couple of weeks then maybe if it's not helping, I'll switch it to a higher dose.

I suppose that because I've still got quite a lot to lose, I don't feel like 3kg is very impressive, especially as I'm calorie counting too. The good thing is that I've paid much more attention to protein intake and before I eat anything, I think 'is it nutritious enough to warrant the calories?'.

I was at the back of the queue when patience was dished out!

The weight loss is always going to slow down. Our bodies are designed not to keep on losing weight - otherwise we'd all die really quickly in a famine situation.

Personally, I'd rather be able to lose a 1lb a week for a long time, than more weight quickly. Without MJ, at 9 weeks into a diet, I would usually be feeling well and truly fed up. The weight loss would have slowed down and I would be feeling deprived, resentful and generally pissed off because the food noise would be howling at me by now.

With MJ, I feel like I can just toddle on quietly losing slowly without any drama going on in my head.

I know it is different for everyone, but I think maybe MJ gives us all the gift of long-term dieting sustainability. So, I'd say if you are losing on a certain dosage, even if it is slow and the side-effects are ok, then why wouldn't you stick with that for the time-being. If the loss gets difficult or the cravings, food noise, appetite picks up, then that is the sign to move up. I'm happy to be challenged on that though, if others think differently.

poppym12 · 14/10/2024 09:57

Thank you @itwasnevermine , @Arraminta , @itwasnevermine , @MargoLivebetter and @Blondeshavemorefun .

I'll stay on 5mg for as long as it's helping. My mindset has changed regarding what I eat but I know that that's a long process and mounjaro provides the safety net from overeating for me.

I don't want to rush through and make myself feel unwell or increase the risk of hair loss, loose skin and gallstones.

Thank you all for your input. It's helped me to get things straight in my mind.

Yes, at an angle in my abdominal flab. When I've done it before it's been fine but for some reason this needle felt thicker and way more painful.

There are actually thicker needles. What 'g' are yours? The needles specs you need are the 32g regardless of the length (4mm, 6mm, 8mm, etc). Those are the usual fine needles used with the pen.

The higher the g, the finer the needles. Many don't seem to realise and get 29g, 30g or 31g (31g is close enough though if you can't find 32g). Some don't notice the difference or they feel it's because of something else but I made sure I checked everything before ordering and searched and got the 32g insulin needles and extra 32g pen needles because I'm also a wimp when it comes to injections.

If I could get 33g or 34g even ,I'd do so. If it could be injected telepathically instead, all the better.

mm81736 · 14/10/2024 10:23

Frustratiny 0.5 kg on today , but inches off.On balance I would rather be thinner than lighter though, so I'll take it as a win!

owlyboo · 14/10/2024 11:02

@poppym12 I think we're all impatient and would love just to wake up tomorrow at our goal weight so you're not alone!!

You've articulated this really well and made me feel better about sticking on 5mg. I have virtually zero food noise too.

Wingingit11 · 14/10/2024 11:31

@margo superbly put thanks for the head wobble.
one pound loss this is a pound I would have put on!

MabelSpan · 14/10/2024 11:47

Oh god, I have done a @Blondeshavemorefun and done my bonus plus a full dose (I think), I got so confused, such is my peri-brain.

I jabbed 40 clicks/3.3333 from my 5mg pen so far so good.
Then I thought I want to up my dose from 3.75 to 4.25. I started adding up the numbers in the 5mg pen chart, so worked out I needed 11 more clicks, that worked out at 0.8333 + 0.0833 = 9166 added to my 3.3333 gives 4.2499.

Then it all went rather horribly wrong😧

I think I got mixed up with mg and ml. I drew out another 0.9mls most from the last of the old pen and a little bit from the new 5mg into my 1ml med baasic insulin syringe and stuck it in.

So instead of the 4.25mg I wanted I think I have gone and given myself way too much and my brain is so fogged up I cant even calculate what dose I have actually had.

I cant believe I have been so stupid and I still cant calculate how I messed it up.
I am so confused now!

I am going to feel so ill if I have given myself twice and a bit as much as I should have 😞

Send anti sickness by the truck load please!😩

What a muppet I am🙁

Glittermoonlight · 14/10/2024 11:48

Absolutely agree @MargoLivebetter my thoughts exactly.
Normally I can stay on a diet for around 2 months, lose 2 stone, then just can’t keep it up. So slowly over the next couple of years that 2 stone goes back on. Then I’m right back at 14st again, then repeat. It’s means that I’ve not weighed under 12st for around 20 yrs +
With MJ I intend to use it for a minimum of 9 months, because that’s how long it takes apparently to change a lifestyle habit, not the 3 months that I previously thought for years. So I’ll see where my weight loss is at 9 months. I knew when I started MJ that it was going to be a long process for me.

MargoLivebetter · 14/10/2024 11:53

@MabelSpan I get in such a muddle too trying to work out anything other than a standard dose. I hope you don't feel to rough.

Mine are 30g, 8mm so a bit longer and a bit fatter (I use gauges as I work with silver!). I didn't notice it when using one for my bonus dose from my last pen but this one just felt painful going in and the area is really irritated.

I do have quite a strong nickel allergy so I'm wondering if there's nickel in the needles? Trying not to scratch it, I've taken piriton and slathered hydrocortisone cream on it.

weaseleyes · 14/10/2024 11:57

Eek @MabelSpan! Hope you can take it easy for the next couple of days

MabelSpan · 14/10/2024 12:02

@MargoLivebetter @weaseleyes thanks both.
I think I have taken 10.8333mg so only two and a half times what I intended to take. Looks like I might have an interesting week ahead!😧

weaseleyes · 14/10/2024 12:12

I'm following pretty much the same diet that I've done prior to MJ and is the only one that now works for me - fairly low calorie, cut out all flour, sugar, UPFs, focus on fibre and a bit more protein than I might usually eat. Apart from a bigger than usual loss in week 1, losses have been broadly similar, though maybe very slightly more on MJ. So on the surface MJ isn't adding much, but the key differences for me have been:

  • actually starting! The first week or two on the diet are usually miserable ones in which I feel starving, have cravings and keep cheating and telling myself I'll start again on Monday. This can go on for months (in which I continue gaining weight.) Once I'm underway I'm fine, but getting properly underway is hard. With MJ I just took the jab and that was that - started.
  • feeling less hungry straight away and not thinking about food - or how I shouldn't have food, or plans about not having food, or negotiating about food - all the time
  • by this point, I'm usually beginning to want to cheat a little, though I can generally go another month at lest before things get really tricky
  • the reduced joint pain from my arthritis has been awesome - still there, but so much better
  • I can walk faster and exercise better due to reduced joint pain
  • I occasionally tested my blood sugar. It's gone from top end of normal at best to mid-range and I feel much better for it
  • bad differences with MJ: nausea, tiredness, some wooziness
  • the big difference will be, I hope, that I just keep going - past the point usually give up (after losing about three stone) and that I carry on until I reach a healthy BMI
weaseleyes · 14/10/2024 12:14

Fingers crossed it's not too bad @MabelSpan and do see your GP if you feel too rotten.

What a muppet I am🙁

1ml - 1.4 x the dose - so about 8.3ml. Definitely not 2 x the normal dose but a big jump!

MabelSpan · 14/10/2024 13:00

Weigh in and double dose (accidently) day today! I increased my calories this week after those weird empty tummy feelings. I was surpised to show a 0.6lb loss

SW 14th Aug 24 - 20st 3lbs
CW 14th Oct 24 - 18st 8.4lbs
WL - 0.6lbs
TL 14th Oct 24 - 1st 8.6lbs
3.75mg wk2/wk9 0.6lbs, wk1/wk8 0.2lbs
5mg wk2/wk7 2.4lbs, 5mg wk1/wk6 4.2lbs
Wk5 bonus dose 3.25mg - 2.8lbs
Wk4 2.5mg - 2.6lbs, wk3 - 2.4lbs, wk2 - no loss, wk1 7.4lbs

Having messed up my bonus dose today it appears I have injected a total of 10.8333mg instead of the 4.25mg I intended. Not to self and anyone else using bonus doses and syringes, do not confuse 9166mg with 0.9166ml, it likely wont end well as I am going to find out this week!😧😮😟
Or maybe I will be lucky like @Blondeshavemorefun I am keeping everything crossed!😀
Keep me in your thoughts and wish me luck for what is about to come!😊😄

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/10/2024 13:26

@mm81736 sorry for gain

@MabelSpan I'm confused what you injected with the clicks

60 is whole dose (I think) so you had almost a 5 (I think) with 51 clicks

Then you did extra on top ?

.6 is a dose

So you then took out .9 so a whole dose of 5 plus a third more

And

Some from new pen ?

So almost a 5 dose. Plus over 5 (in the .9) then added to it as well

🙀🙀🙀

So around 10mg

I know I did 5 and bonus 5 so 10 and I was ok but low doses don't seem to effect me much

You suffer hence do less then 5 so why would you take out the bonus dose and inject as well AND then more from new pen

Bless you

You may feel poorly as you react differently from me

Maybe even speak to 111 or a chemist /who you get mj from to work out what you did have

I think around 10 but @itwasnevermine thinks less

MabelSpan · 14/10/2024 13:55

@Blondeshavemorefun Basically I am a first rate peri brained muppet of the highest order!😀

I did 40 clicks = 3.3333mg from my already in use 5mg and injected that from the pen as normal.
I wanted a total of 4.25mg this week.
That meant I needed another 11 clicks to take me to 51 clicks, 4.25mg from a 5mg pen.
I added up 11 clicks in mg which was 0.9166mg which added to the 3.333mg would be 4.25mg, all good.
I then should have just added 11 clicks worth which would be 0.11ml I drew out 0.9ml, because I confused what I had written down 0.9116mg for needing 0.9ml.

I was adding up mg and injected that total as ml!

I have just gone over the numbers again and @itwasnevermine is right, thank you!

I have so many notes and numbers written down I cant think straight!

I did 0.4mls/40 clicks/3.3333mg from the used pen.
Then I withdrew 0.9ml from leftover in used pen and a little from my new pen thinking that was what I needed by confusing 0.9116MG for ML.
So that is another full dose 0.6ml = 5.0000mg
Plus 0.3ml taking me to 9ml = 0.2500mg (I added this up as 2.5000mg hence my sums error)

Grand total of 8.5833mg
About double my intended increase to 4.25mg.

What a bloody cock up!🙄

Redlightbulb · 14/10/2024 14:02

Just a quick update from me.
10 weeks in now.
Have lost about a stone and 1/2.
3 weeks on 7.5.
Actually finding 7.5 a bit too much. The first couple of 7.5 doses were ok.. but this 3rd dose has really kicked a punch.
The side effects have steadily worsened as I have gone up doses.
I am getting bad acid reflux and nausea is pretty strong today.
Puked up my dinner in the middle of the night. It feels like food is sitting in my stomach for too long and allowing acids to build.
Dr has given me some meds to help with the acid reflux (Lansoprazole)
I have had them before, but only really needed to use them when the food binging was bad (before MJ)
So 5mg is too low but 7.5 is too high.
Might end up doing something like 6.5.
Definitely not moving up doses for a while!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/10/2024 14:11

@Redlightbulb sorry feeling so bad on 7.5

I've just realised just how much of my "hunger" was mental.

I've been due on my period so I've been hungry, but the second it's started I'm no longer hungry? It doesn't make any sense

@Redlightbulb sorry feeling so bad on 7.5

Thank you.
I pushed through the doses every 4 weeks so I had to reach a ceiling at some point :)
