for those of you who count steps - how long does it take to get 10,000 steps in?

I WFH so my daily step count tends to be low - I'm thinking of rejigging my working day a bit to try and get 10,000 steps in at least 2 or 3 weekdays. Would a 50 minute vigorious walk at lunchtime do it do you think? I'm normally at yoga or sea swimming/dipping in the mornings.

Bibulous · 04/11/2024 13:57

10,000 steps is about five miles for most people. You'd have to walk really fast to do that in a lunchtime.

Darlinghag · 04/11/2024 14:12

its about 1 hour 20 for me, on top of my very low daily steps.

i do need to being back doing 10000 a day, feel like its really hard to motivate myself now though, even though i have a walking pad!!

RobinEllacotStrike · 04/11/2024 14:45

thank you steppers!

I will aim for 5,000 at first and see if I can make that work.

I do like to walk but I'm not a big fan of walking for the sake of it - but If I can walk for 40 minutes 3 times during the working week I think it will have a noticable effect.

Yesrs ago I started walking to work and it really got be strong and lead to me doing the C25K. I am not what you would call a natural runner, and yet it happened for a while there.

Orangesandlemons77 · 04/11/2024 16:25

Well I had a message from the GPs saying they would ring me but they haven't yet (about the ursodiol) then I was at the pharmacy picking up HRT and a lady was saying about Ginger and how it helps with nausea.

So I thought I would try some and it does seemed to have helped with the nausea. Just thought I would mention it. It was about £2 and in a little green box.

WeAllHaveWings · 04/11/2024 17:01

I got 3000 steps in during my lunch break in around 30mins.

2-3 nights a week I meet with my SIL and niece and do another 3000-4000. SIL has a bad knee so can't do further and it's too dark to do alone now. Wish we still had a dog as it would force me out!

The rest of the time is embarrassing low. I am going to try to keep up the 3000 at lunch this week.

Thought about a walking pad again, but 1) don't enjoy it 2) I've had 2 high spec treadmills in the past that didn't get used beyond a couple of months.

Doggymummar · 04/11/2024 20:00

677 steps today for me. I need to try to do more

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 04/11/2024 20:14

Week 3 day 5
I have reached 1 stone and half a pound weight loss. So happy!

My app now says my BMI is below 40 and I've gone from obese class 3 to obese class 2.

Another 1.5 lbs and I'm in the next stone bracket, one I haven't reached in years. So, so pleased. I can definitely see a difference on my face, stomach and waist even though it's not a massive change yet.

I've only had 4 jabs of Mounjaro and haven't been able to buy more because of unexpected redundancy so fingers crossed I can keep it up without it. I feel a million times better.

Truly, no judgement, but that seems so low that I would query whether your tracking device is accurate. Even on a sedentary WFH day I will exceed 1500 steps.

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping I'm an ambulatory wheelchair users and do about 2000 steps a day on average so questioning it is valid.

RMNofTikTok · 04/11/2024 21:53

Hi all!

Start date - 2nd May 2024
SW - 19st 4.2lb
CW - 16st 10.4lb

My weight loss has slowed down to 1lb a week. I've just tried injecting in my arm for the first time to see if that will get things shifting again!

Apparently my TDEE is 2216 calories a day. Over the past week my average intake has been 1200 calories a day. I should have, in theory, lost 2lb. I know in reality it doesn't work like that. But it's so frustrating!!!! I have another 7 stone to lose, it's going to take me another 2 years at this rate 🤪

WeAllHaveWings · 04/11/2024 22:01

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping on my WFH days I do even less!

Out of bed into shower, put on tracker. Sit at desk and fire up laptop. Sit there for 8-12hrs, maybe get up for lunch, or loo both just a few steps away. Finish work 6-7pm, kitchen for a bit, relax knackered from work then bed. No young kids to run about after nowadays.

It is shocking how little I move some days, but trying to improve.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 04/11/2024 22:22

Fair point @WeAllHaveWings - I have small people and they undoubtedly boost my steps.

Interested to hear how you get on with the arm injection @RMNofTikTok. I am thinking of injecting in my stomach for tomorrow’s dose. I’ve only done alternating thighs up until now but I am hoping to break a stall. I have gone back to tracking calories and macros and aiming for a 1000 calorie deficit per day, theoretically to equate to 2lb lost per week. I have a big event just before Christmas and would love to lose another stone by then.

RMNofTikTok · 04/11/2024 22:30

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping I've done thighs and stomach before. I definitely get more appetite suppression in my stomach but I also get way worse acid reflux. I'll let you know how the arm goes!

alltablenochairs · 04/11/2024 22:43

@RobinEllacotStrike if you like pomegranates, have a look at Crowdfarming. 5kg boxes of the things and they're fabulous

@RMNofTikTok does your TDEE account for the fact that you're an ambulatory wheelchair user? If so would you mind sharing with me how you managed to calculate it? From what I was reading, people who are non-mobile or walk very little have a completely different TDEE calculation.

Orangesandlemons77 · 05/11/2024 09:28

The GP rang this morning about the gallstones prevention, said because I don't have a history of gallstones we won't go for the ursodiol at present but went through the symptoms of gallstones with me and said if I get any to ring back and we will start it. He asked about the mounjaro and dosage and weight lost etc.

I live in a bungalow and WFH, pretty sure it's accurate unfortunately. Three trips to the kitchen for coffee!

RobinEllacotStrike · 05/11/2024 12:13

@alltablenochairs thanks for the CrowdFarming tip - I have ordered a box of pomegranates from them.

The ones I currently have are from Tesco and they are excellent too.

Have you tried oranges from CrowdFarming? I find citrus so unreliable in the UK, but if I visit my friend in Spain in the winter I go crazy for the fresh oranges & mandarins she has in her local markets.

RobinEllacotStrike · 05/11/2024 12:25

@WeAllHaveWings I work from home too and though I often curse this house for only having one loo, it is 2 flights of stairs up from my ground floor office so I get some steps in.

It is startling just how easy it is to be relatively inactive, especially in the winter, when you WFH at a desk job.

I used to get puffed going up to the loo but I don't even notice it now - I am much fitter than I was a few months ago.

One of the amazing MJ induced changes I have made, is exercising regularly. I might not be getting those steps in (yet) but I am going to various yoga/pilates/circuit classes over the week. And I get into the sea about 5 times a week which, although its not vigorious swimming, it does involve a bit of movement.

I feel so much better for moving more - its crazy that inertia seems to be such a natural state for me. But once I get up and get going I do love to exercise.

And I am enjoying feeling my strength increase, and now I've lost the equivalent of the checked in suitcase we took away with us to Spain a few weeks ago, moving is a lot easier and more pleasent.

I need to keep all this up over the winter now.

Just imagine how different & exciting next spring/summer is going to be for us all after we MJ, exercise & eat healthy throughout this winter ahead!

Yep, tried those as well. My kids love the mandarins/satsumas/clementines!

GrumpyWombat · 05/11/2024 12:44

I’m considering starting this journey, have about 6-7 stone to lose. Had started couch to 5k in the summer but then sprained my ankle, my eating has been awful since then. I’m currently laid up with a bad back that I know won’t be helped by my weight. I’m scared to start but I know I need to do something. Have tried Saxenda in the past.

RobinEllacotStrike · 05/11/2024 12:52

Don't be scared @GrumpyWombat - the intro dose is low, and most of us don't have negative side effects. The only negative side effects I've had has been after eating refined carbs, but as I have zero appetite for or interest in processed carbs right now, they are easilty avoided.

I started off with approx 8 stone to lose to reach "healthy BMI" and now, after a few months, I have 5.5 stone to lose to get into that heatlhy BMI range.

alwaysscared · 05/11/2024 13:05

Day 4 of 4.5mg and I feel bloody awful. So nauseous and not hungry. I don't know what to do with myself, I don't think I can face eating but I know I need to 😫
@GrumpyWombat don't let this put you off, I was terrified to start as I have emetophobia and severe OCD around bodily functions! But 2.5mg is such a small dose. This is only the second time I have felt really nauseous (I'm mildly nauseous every day, but have been that way for years). I am titrating up slowly.
The 25.5lbs lost in 9 weeks helps keep me motivated!!

I've been having some nausea too on 5mg, it's not pleasant but I find wears off a bit after the first few days. I find eating something small such as an apple or banana helps, also some ginger might help. Hope thing improve.s
