@Midlifecrisisxamillion oh yes, I am really pleased. It's just that I'm not feeling suppression 2 days after upping my dose and it's very frustrating. I have a lot to lose, am diabetic and have sleep apnoea. I really need this to work

OhHaiOwlInYourTowel · 20/10/2024 20:46

Just adding - if I may, as someone who's lost 5.5 stone and more or less reached target, that achieving full suppression is not the aim of the game

An ability to recognise when you've eaten just enough is what you should be aiming for. So using MJ as a tool if you like, not a weapon to kill your appetite

I never had suppression. Started in April weighing nearly 15 stone and am now 9. 7 stone and I've eaten 1400 calories every take every single day - I've done this because of you try and do it by eating 800 cals or whatever, the appetite bounce back in time will be massive

So please don't think I'm preaching or setting myself up as some sort of expert (far from it!) but try and forget appetite suppression in its entirety and focus on the additional benefits such as the growing ability to leave food on your plate / have a smaller portion

OhHaiOwlInYourTowel · 20/10/2024 20:48

@alwaysscared you should feel hungry! You need to feel hunger. You need to eat properly, ideally 3 times a day - basically your 'normal' pattern of eating but being sensible and really tuning in to stopping as soon as you feel satisfied

alwaysscared · 20/10/2024 20:53

@OhHaiOwlInYourTowel the problem is the nighttime hunger. I can handle it during the day, but after tea I just want to eat and eat and eat. I haven't been doing it but it's getting harder to resist

Are you eating well, three times a day? That could help if not.

alwaysscared · 20/10/2024 21:59

@Orangesandlemons77 I guess I could be eating more. I stick to eating the same things every day (I have OCD and other mental health problems, and I just find this easier)
I'm not really calorie counting so I don't actually know how many I am having, but I think it's under 1000

Have you ever read any of the binge eating books, as they usually recommend regular mealtimes? they do have them in the library under books on prescription, might be worth a read. I wouldn't worry too much about the calorie counting / restricting stuff too much if you have a history of binge eating as you probably know too much restricting often triggers a binge...best of luck with it.

alwaysscared · 20/10/2024 22:21

@Orangesandlemons77 no, I have never really looked into binge eating, although my psychiatrist does believe I have a binge eating disorder. Maybe I should do some research. I've always just put it to the back of my mind, along with my diabetes and sleep apnoea. My hoping is that MJ will be the thing that finally helps me, I think that's why I'm so anxious about it all

Fingers crossed it does, but just in case they could help too.

Thank you@VelociraptorsVelociRapping I have rather the reverse experience of your friend & had hair down past my waist since I started school until the middle of this year (I'm late 40s). It's an extremely discombobulating experience. I hate change & being noticed so I'm desperately hoping MJ works & so the change/notice can be more positive or at least something I can control.

Thank you for all the information @SilenceInside @WeAllHaveWings @SqueakyDinosaur @PrincessPeache @NewbieMJ

I just need to take the damn photos now 🙈

Wow, that's an excellent loss! I have about 7 stones to lose and have just started my second week.

I wanted to say thank you for the great advice! I felt some hunger throughout the week and incorrectly thought it wasn't working, so thank you for putting me right! I'd also been struggling to get my calories in (1500) but the way you've explained why it's important, I'll try harder to stick to it. Thanks again! :)

itwasnevermine · 21/10/2024 07:43

Feeling so positive this morning. Week 10 (or 11, if the first week counts as a jab week?)

Start weight - 20 stone 11 pounds

Current weight- 18 stone 6.1 pounds

Making a loss of 2 stone 4.9 pounds so far.

I'd lost a lot of weight before this (4 stone) but it took so long. I'm so happy. It just feels like weight loss is the last thing on my mind now

NewoIkkin · 21/10/2024 07:48

Bibulous · 20/10/2024 16:21

Even if I don't lose a single kilo, just getting rid of the constant thoughts about what I can eat next is life-changing in itself. It's spooky.

Absolutely! What’s amazed me is how much space there is in my brain now for other stuff. My life is so much fuller because I can dedicate my thoughts and energy to worthwhile things rather than just the constant overpowering food noise.

OhHaiOwlInYourTowel · 21/10/2024 08:58

@doodlydooo sounds like you've made a great start! And it's so normal to feel hungry - we are definitely supposed to! I do try and focus on protein but it's so hard for me as a vegan to get it in but protein shakes and yogurts help quite a bit and they also help with feeling a bit fuller!

Keep at it. If you plod along, tracking about 1300-1500 calories a day (depending on height and weight and goals etc) and if you look back on your losses every 30 days (NOT every week!) then I promise you cannot fail

alltablenochairs · 21/10/2024 08:59

Simple Online Pharmacy deliver using DPD and it's in a completely plain packet. If anything it looked like I had been ordering clothes and had received an overstuffed parcel. I could probably get it cheaper but I don't trust RM where I am. I'll take a pic when the next delivery arrives. No video call but they did want a pic- which they got with bells on. A t-shirt and a pair of mega pants. I had a starting BMI of 45, there was no way in hell they were going to get a photo of a svelte supermodel. SOP use wool cool packaging as well- and my raised beds will love me as it works really well as a weed suppressing fabric when taken out of the plastic packaging.

I'm on 2.5 but will be increasing it to 5 with the next pen as the constant food noise is beginning to creep back, especially towards the end of the 7 days. So far I have lost 5kg which is actually pretty good for me as I'm by and (very) large a non-mobile wheelchair user. Because I don't really walk* tdee and calorie intake is completely different and it's been about finding the balance (ain't got that either!). MJ def isn't going to be a short haul thing for me as I have a long, long way to go. I don't have an end goal of yet though, just a few interim goals.

*I can stand and can take a few steps. I don't have any functional mobility outdoors though but I do have a great big black powerchair that's been absolutely transformative.

Argh!! I went on to 3.5mg on Friday. Yesterday suppression was great, today I'm hungry again 😫😫
WTF is going on?? I don't think it's working for me! The 2.5mg suppression was good for 2 weeks but then I just feel like I've been on a really restrictive diet, and I'm losing the motivation. I've lost a stone and a half in 6 weeks, which is great but I'm finding it hard!

Why did you only go to 3.5mg rather than the next official dose of 5mg? Perhaps you need the full dose to curb the nighttime cravings.

alwaysscared · 21/10/2024 10:21

@Swissrollover I'm terrified of side effects, couldn't bring myself to do 5mg yet

Changinghabits1973 · 21/10/2024 10:24

Thelastdietever · 20/10/2024 18:13

@Changinghabits1973 thank you for sharing I’m on week 7 and lost 21lb this week constipation has got me I will try the green tea and prunes thanks for the tip. Goodluck on your journey

That's great @Thelastdietever You must be chuffed with your progress... it really is amazing.. Do you mind me asking if you have a long journey ahead of you like me? I have given myself a year and hoping to achieve my goal by the end of next summer... my motivation is going to be booking a last minute winter holiday in 2025 if i achieve what i have set out to do in 2024/2025 both physically and mentally; I just really want to keep motivated although I know and realise we are all human and hit speedbumps along the way... If you have any meal / food recommendations I would appreciate it?!! Is there anything in particular that you like to cook/eat? I started off with Lloyds Pharmacy Online Doctor but last week changed to Oushk Pharmacy and they have been brilliant in terms of customer service and even before I changed I telephoned through to them and the reception staff actually put me through to the Pharmacist, Hira Malik who I think{?} is the founder of Oushk... we had such a long chat on the telephone as I needed advice on how much support they could offer me both now on this journey and when I eventually get to goal and want to be supported in maintenance - I cannot recommend them enough tbh, and their prices are cheaper and you can nominate a delivery date also either with DPD or Royal Mail. My first pen was delivered last weekend from them and it arrived with Royal Mail as i had chosen that, all nicely cold packed and as a gift they put in a lovely pink tape measure !!! Its the little things that make me smile... !! Also the constipation has gone with this dose as well alongside the green tea and it feels great !!!

@Swissrollover I'm terrified of side effects, couldn't bring myself to do 5mg yet

Moving up is something to consider then? Did you get side effects on 2.5?

I personally did 2.5 x 4, then 3.1 (bonus), 3.75, 4, 4.2, 4.5, etc, with good suppression and no side effects. I moved up slowly, sometimes in even smaller imcrements than above, and am now on 7.5mg at 18 weeks.

I do inject every 6 days though, so stayed on a lower dose, otherwise I could potentially be on 12.5mg by now and have a lot more MJ in my system.

I'm not advocating my approach, but it works for me. 20kg lost so far, which is nearly halfway to goal.

gimmemounjaro · 21/10/2024 11:36

@Arglefraster
I have had 5 pens from MedExpress and have never had to sign.

oulala · 21/10/2024 11:46

I'm moving over here from the September starters thread as I realised that most on the thread had a lot less to lose than me. It would be a little bit discouraging seeing everyone get to target when I still had a long way to go!

I am just over 5 weeks into my MJ journey.

SW - 294lb

CW - 269lb

I am not doing a target weight but a series of mini goals. My original goal was 279 by the end of the half-term, this was reached fairly rapidly and replaced by 266 by the end of November.

I am not calorie counting, I am trying to listen to my body and what it needs and eating accordingly to that.

alwaysscared · 21/10/2024 11:59

@oulala I'm from the September group too, and also have a lot to lose. This group is great
@Swissrollover I think I will slowly increase like you have.

Orangesandlemons77 · 21/10/2024 12:02

I also started in September and been on it around a month now.

I started 1st July at 2lbs heavier than you so I feel you on there being a long way to go…but I’m now well over half way there! It goes so quickly!

WeAllHaveWings · 21/10/2024 13:02

The monthly boards are great for learning about MJ together and they are great little communities, but I think a lot of us here are in a similar position, joined the monthly boards at first but soon felt a bit out of place when everyone was talking about doing a triathlon and fitting into size 8's (exaggerating, but you get the point) after a month or two while I was celebrating no longer being morbidly obese and able to walk up a flight of stairs without needing resuscitation!

Everyone's successes are as valid, but different, and having much more to lose is certainly a different experience. It is nice to share with others on similar journeys.
