Rockfordpeach · 28/09/2024 17:08

Hi,
I've taken the plunge and ordered Mounjaro through MedExpress. My prescription was accepted today and as long as it arrives in time I plan to start on Thursday (my birthday is on Wednesday 😂😂). I thought I would start a thread for any new starters if anyone is interested 😊

Can I join even though it's October.

Pens being delivered today but was up all night with D&V so probably best not to start today

LaVieestBelleNestCePas · 08/10/2024 10:36

I have to say a huge thank you to everyone for sharing so many stories of struggles with weight gain and loss. Story of my life since I was 13!!! Yo yo dieting and weight going up and down and up and down. Managed to keep the weight off for almost ten years but life struggles and two awful marriages left me struggling and comforting myself with nice food and wine… too many times 😂

Moonlightsonatas · 08/10/2024 10:39

Ordered mine today from Pharmacy2u, not sure if they supply needles and sharps bin though so I’ll have to see.

TheOtherSide21 · 08/10/2024 10:41

Some of the calories in here are very, very low. This is asking for side effects.

Also- you need to think of life after MJ. Sub 1000 calories a day isn’t sustainable long term- especially with no suppression.

Everything im reading says TDEE - 500 which gives me 1250 cals a day, which is miserable with no supression. So im aiming for that but capping at 1400. My scales but my BMR at 1498 which suggests 1400 is only a 98 cal deficit though, so maybe the 1250 is what i need? Its very confusing

This is exactly what my doctor said to me. I went to a private GP as I have health anxiety and didn't have the courage to do it without physical support. She said to me that i have to learn to eat sensible food with it, don't cut calories too low as the aim is to lose the weight with education on how to keep it off afterwards as she said the end goal is to lose the weight here and keep it off without the injections.

LolaLouise · 08/10/2024 11:11

Im stressing about work too now. So im back on nights tonight, and will continue to track calories, but when im only sleeping 4 hours in each 24 hour period for the next 4 days, my intake is going to be all over the place

How much exercise do you do? Is that factored in?

I am not qualified just for the record, but in my health and fitness experience 1250 calories wouldn’t sustain many people lying on their back all day, never mind someone who’s working, moving, and trying to be healthier.

I just had a go at one of those TEEE calculators - it has me bang on my calories but for the wrong level of exercise. Maybe worth speaking to a nutritionist?

LolaLouise · 08/10/2024 11:30

@TheOtherSide21 not a lot at the minute. I average alot of steps at work (25k 4 shifts a week) and have ordered a walking pad for home to keep it up on off days, but currently other than that nothing.

1400 is doable, would i be better sticking to that?

InfoSecInTheCity · 08/10/2024 11:41

@LolaLouise BMR is the calories your body uses just to keep you alive and functioning.

TDEE is BMR plus your normal activity level. So if you eat TDEE you'll maintain, that would be about 1600 calories which is a normal amount of food and not hugely restrictive.

The 500 deficit is for when you want to lose and I think it better to go with 250 deficit for sustainability and lots of water for filling and preventing water retention.

mumto2teenagers · 08/10/2024 11:46

I'm starting today, just waiting for delivery of my first pen. I ordered mine from The Family Chemist last week, got the Royal Mail tracking details yesterday evening and it is being delivered by 1pm today.

I work from home 3 days a week, so was planning on waiting until tomorrow evening to start because I'm in the office tomorrow but have now decided just to go for it today. Did anyone have any immediate side effects, I've been taking supplements for the last few days and will drink plenty of water.

I was one of those that posted yesterday after having 900 calories, I've said previously the reason I am calorie counting is so I can make sure I am eating enough on days where I have no appetite, however yesterday was my very first day and it was obviously strange to eat with no appetite and I also didn't want to eat too much and make myself ill. It's going to be a bit of trial and error these first few weeks but I'm not too worried if some days are lower than other to start with as I get used to this new life.

WafflingDreamer · 08/10/2024 12:16

Having overeaten my entire life it's really weird having such suppression.

Today my 3 yo and I walked passed the bakery and I didn't even care. We also went to the co-op and got him a treat and I didn't buy anything for me (normally I'd have got a sandwich or crisps and more!)

I am having to force myself to eat as I really don't fancy anything and I definitely don't feel hungry. Normally I'd spend a lot of time thinking about what to eat and what would taste good. I do need to plan a bit more for next week so I have some healthier options in the house.

UpUpUpU · 08/10/2024 12:31

I am hungry again today but I think thats good as I didn’t eat enough the last couple of days. I have found something spectacular actually! Made overnight oats with fat free Greek yogurt but didn’t have any fruit that would go, so I mixed in half a scoop of chocolate protein powder. It was fabulous! Tasted like chocolate mousse! And odd thing to eat for lunch but it will now be my new go to I think as a sweet treat.

weigh day tomorrow. Been so busy this week so not paid much attention to weigh loss and how I feel but I’ll weigh and take measurements tomorrow and update.

Tiree1965 · 08/10/2024 12:39

I'm going to join you. I placed an order today as I need help to break the habit of mindlessly eating anything and everything that is sweet. I know it's possible to lose weight by tracking and controlling what you eat but I've let things go too far and now have 3.5 stone to lose. I'm hoping this will be a kick start and factory reset so I can go into the new year in a better place.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 08/10/2024 12:48

I’m sat here working but impatiently waiting for the postman to deliver, I talked myself into starting Thursday, I’m now arguing with myself and thinking I should start today… I’ll probably settle on tomorrow! I can weigh and get starting measurements in the morning. It’s such a dilemma.
I’m also wishing the next three months or so away so I’m well into the journey and have results that I can see, but what if I’m not a good responder, I’m in a turmoil 😂

Why don't you just try the first month and see how it goes, the first month is just abstracting dose anyway. Relax

I’m picking my prescription up tonight. So I’m planning to start it today before bed. Has anyone had any awful side effects? I’m worried I’ll feel too ill to work or go to my gym classes - and I’m already on a warning for sickness at work after having the flu for weeks earlier this year - but if I wait to take it till the weekend I have a toddler to look after, so not sure which is the best thing to do! I am so nervous!

Dee03 · 08/10/2024 08:38

2nd injection day for me...and weigh day...

I've lost 9lb....I just can't quite believe it. I've had no side effects...I still have food noise....the only difference is I get full a lot quicker than I used to so I am eating a lot less plus I'm choosing to eat healthier options and more protein.

Let's see what results this week brings Smile

Well done!

Edited

I’m taking mine Friday evening so I don’t have to go into work! But I haven’t read of anyone having extreme side effects which means they couldn’t go into work etc

Rockfordpeach · 08/10/2024 13:03

Day 5 yesterday was the toughest day yet. Felt so close to throwing up all day and then in the evening was on the loo all night. Took some immodium this morning 🙀not feeling anywhere near as bad today so perhaps it peaked yesterday?

In terms of calories, I've looked up the maintenance calories for my goal weight and am aiming for that. It gives me a deficit and will give me months to get used to eating in the way I want to maintain when I finish the injections

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 08/10/2024 13:07

Weighed in this morning after my first week and I’ve lost 7.6lbs!! Can’t quite believe it as I’d convinced myself I wasn’t losing anything.
I’ve been very lucky as I’ve had no side effects at all so far. Food just doesn’t come into my mind - I can happily carry on working then suddenly realise it’s 2pm when before I would have been straight down to the kitchen at noon!

I really like the idea of goal weight and maintenance calories, makes so much sense, thanks for that

I have weekends with my toddler and they’re always so busy, this weekend family gathering, next weekend a trip away etc. I’d rather not be feeling rough! I work from home and only go into the office once a week (Friday this week) so I’m hoping if side effects aren’t too bad I can manage at home and just work through them. Just been and bought probiotics, electrolytes, gaviscon and ginger and peppermint tea in preparation! My friend who is on it recommended using a probiotic and not drinking with meals, and that can help some of the digestive side effects. I’ve tried to eat really well yesterday and today as well to set me up .
