It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

Where do I get this graph from , the one that tells you how much is in your system.. I've seen a few people screen shot with the blue graph details.. but can't find it. Is it in an app?

Hi all wonderful fellow losers!

Just checking in with my latest update and I’ve now lost a total of 3 and a half stone! 49 whole flipping pounds in 22 weeks = 2.2lb average loss/week which I’m really pleased.

Only 7lb left to lose to reach my target weight and a healthy BMI. Un-bloody-believable 🤣

It’s been interesting reading about our BMI over the last few pages of this thread. I’m 5’8 and have a large build (size 8 feet) Even at my lightest weight, in my early 20’s, the lowest weight for me was 11 stone and a size 12/14.

Starting weight 15’11 BMI 33.6
Today’s weight 12’3
Goal weight 11’10 BMI 25

As always, thank you to everyone on here for your incredible support, advice and inspiration 😍

Amazing! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I presume the original poster was indeed talking about other weight loss drugs yes, as mounjaro has only recently been given on the nhs.
There absolutely has been at several points severe shortages of these drugs - I am not saying it was caused by people buying them privately, however there have been shortages so, the original poster is factually incorrect.

Could it be that the sheer volume of people that want them on the NHS causes the supply problem? Mainly people with diabetes at the moment for MJ. So even if the NHS orders loads, the amount of prescriptions being given for it causes it to go out of stock really fast?

The wine and chip diet worked and I dropped a pound this morning for the first time in 12 days.

@ObsidianTree and @Pinkyp22 - the meds for NHS diabetes prescriptions is ring fenced and not available to be sold for other purposes or to other suppliers. There has been no shortage of those.

There has been in the USA, because their ‘healthcare’ system is a capitalist free for all.

So if I've worked that graph out right, imputing all my jabs from the start to now -I should have a base of 7.2mg by the time I take my last 5mg jab? So it actually wouldn't be that big a jump to 7.5mg?? When I moved from 2.5mg I went to 3 then 3.75 for 2 weeks before having the courage to do 5mg. The horror stories scared me into not moving straight from 2.5 to 5mg. If that graph is correct then moving from 5 to 7.5mg shouldn't be that much of a shock.
Am I reading it right?

No. The 7.5 would be on top of the baseline amount in your body. (You can't just add those figures together though.)

This plotter can be useful (and obviously is publicly available) but it would be a bad idea to make assumptions from it, without discussing with a HCP.

But you can use it to predict the approx levels in your body if you did increase to 7.5mg. The arrow in the screenshot indicates the start of 7.5 after the dose schedule you've described.

Plotted here: https://glp1plotter.com/?medication1=tirzepatide&offsetdays1=0&dose1=2.5&from1=1&to1=4&frequency1=7&compare1=false&medication2=tirzepatide&offsettdays2=0&dose2=3&from2=5&to2=6&frequency2=7&compare2=false&medication3=tirzepatide&offsetdays3=0&dose3=3.75&from3=7&to3=8&frequency3=7&compare3=false&medication4=tirzepatide&offsettdays4=0&dose4=5&from4=9&to4=12&frequency4=7&compare4=false&medication5=tirzepatide&offsetdays5=0&dose5=7.5&from5=13&to5=16&frequency5=7&compare5=false&length=16&startt_date=2024-10-17

Sorry maybe I'm just tired but your comment has confused me.
Just to clarify mine in case it makes a difference. I plotted all my jabs & the graph said my baseline by the end of week 5 of 5mg would be 7.2mg. I was saying that would mean the jump to week 1 of 7.5mg wouldn't be as severe as I feared. If the graph is right my body wouldn't be jumping from 5mg to 7.5mg.
I won't make a decision until the day of that jab though to see if I want to do 6mg & work up or straight into 7.5mg. The graph has given me new information to think over.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 17/10/2024 12:49

I was saying that would mean the jump to week 1 of 7.5mg wouldn't be as severe as I feared. If the graph is right my body wouldn't be jumping from 5mg to 7.5mg.

This is just not a meaningful interpretation of what the graph can tell you. I'm not sure how else to put it, @MamaBearH.

But you can now see - in my screenshot - the predicted increase in your levels of the drug if you started 7.5mg (taking into account your previous doses).

That's pretty much all the graph should be used for (as non-HCPs).

You plotted what you have taken already, but its value is in plotting ahead to see how levels will rise in future with a new dose. No need to try to make our own predictions as to what will happen.

There really were lots of supply shortages for diabetic patients in the past. I work in a GP surgery and review a lot of diabetic patients and there were very real supply issue for many of them for some time.

MamaBearH · 17/10/2024 16:22

Although I weigh daily, I don't pay too much attention to weekly figures as long as the numbers are going down. Well today I was interested as to what my losses have been like since starting.
Apparently I lost 2lbs healthy eating before starting the jabs then 7lbs in my first week. Then my loss was:
-1lb
-5lb
-4lb
-2lb
+1lb (less water, low calories)
-2lb
-2lb
-5lb

There were no differences between the weeks with a 2lb loss & those with a higher loss. Totm also doesn't seem to affect my weekly loss, just my daily numbers. Within each week I often go up & down before settling on the weekly figure (always a Monday lol). I'm actually glad I haven't paid attention to weekly figures & just looked at day by day. In the past a weekly loss of 1lb or a gain would have shook me but now I just see the numbers decrease as a whole. No real point to this post except that I found it interesting to see how my thoughts around weight loss have changed. What works for one may not work for another. I know measurements don't spur me on as they seem to change slowly but the feel of my clothes certainly helps confidence much more. I'm plodding along & hopefully the numbers will continue to fall & my goal will get closer.
Seeing others triumphs helps with motivation as well as sharing those moments that don't go to plan. We are all human and we are all trying so well done everyone. The support in here means so much during this journey.

Peggy148 · 17/10/2024 23:57

Evening lovely losers! Hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend, I’m on a little bit of a weight stall this week (I blame the Indian takeaway last weekend).

But…! Instead of feeling a bit down in the dumps, I have a NSV to report! Some size 12 ‘aspirational’ high waist non-stretchy jeans (which I last wore in July and I had to lie on the floor and use a hanger to zip up and then not sit down or breathe all day) not just fit me BUT ARE HANGING ON MY HIPS!!! I have been feeling like the Michelin man this week so that was a DELIGHTFUL surprise.

Thanks again to this wonderful group. I haven’t told a single soul (apart from my DP, who has the emotional range of a hamster) that I’m using MJ and I’m so chuffed to be able to pop on here and celebrate highs as well as lows.

Thank you all for spurring me on x

Aitchtee · 18/10/2024 03:34

@Peggy148 the emotional range of a hamster 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

FarriersGirl · 18/10/2024 07:31

@Peggy148 I find the clothing victories even better than the scales. Love the hamster quote.😂

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 18/10/2024 08:04

Good morning everybody!

@Peggy148 Congratulations, nothing like finding that your clothes fit exactly how you want them to motivate you to keep going.

@MamaBearH Those are some amazing figures for loss. As a slow loser, I'm a bit jealous 😝 it's very inspirational though.

Over the past year I've lost 12kg but 6kg of that was in the past 3 month with the help of mounjaro and prior to that it was ozempic with a large gap between the 2.

I haven't weighed this morning but I have been up all night weeing so I bet I've lost some more water weight. Not really sure how though because I put some salt on my tea last night and the lid fell off 😭 so I scraped off as much of the salt as I possibly could and selectively only ate what had a visible light sprinkling on it but it was definitely still over salted so I expected to be holding on to a lot of water rather than letting it all go.

Blood pressure could do with raising a bit to be honest so perhaps today ill not be as light headed when I stand up.

Pen help please - got 7.5 and 10 pens from Zava- the 10 when I went to use it is just completely jammed - cannot plunge it down at all so had to use my 7.5 - Zara being fairly unhelpful with replacing too. Then this morning as I've still heard nothing I went to the 7.5 pen and same again - totally jammed after working fine last week - can anyone advise ? I've tried really pushing it but not budging.....

I've not had this happen (yet) but have read some people finding that the needle is the problem and changing it helped. Alternatively you could get some insulin syringes if you don't have any already for the bonus dose and draw it out that way. Good luck - it's far too expensive to waste!

Do we need to distinguish by absolute shortages in production and availability. and situations where NHS procurement has not secured a reliable supply, despite availability?

I would suggest trying a new needle too. Most times I've read of pens jamming it's because the needle is bent or faulty, or hasn't been screwed on correctly.
