It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)
Mumsnet does not allow promo codes. Please do not post any. If you want one, ask and someone will PM you a code or there are now threads on the promo page that have codes for Mounjaro link below:

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cooling-resistant-starch#TOC_TITLE_HDR_6

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

Amazing @Slimstar13

Goatblu · 18/10/2024 10:39

I'm undecided about whether to move up to 7.5 or remain on 5 for another few weeks.

Suppression is fine on 5mg but I'm not losing much weight. I'm tracking calories (aim for 1200, usually hit between 1050 and 1250).

I don't feel too bad on 5mg after a rough few days post dose 1 but I've lost 6lb in 5 weeks which would (theoretically) be possible without mounjaro and just tracking calories.

Any tips please?

KrankyKumquat · 18/10/2024 10:57

Well done @Slimstar13 Apologies as I can't remember if that's your first week sub-30 BMI as well as over 100lb lost? Either way, fab progress 👏
Bit of a milestone for me too today - 4st loss.

Can somebody link me to the information about calculating the clicks to get a specific dose? I'm ready to step up a smidge but don't want to make the full jump to 7.5mg due to the constipation . Thinking 6.25mg could be a happy medium but not sure how many chicks it would be on a 7.5 pen

Timetofindme · 18/10/2024 11:19

I'm hoping to get a bonus dose out of my 5mg pen. I've read about the 'hard twist' but not really sure what this means or how to do it?! Any help appreciated please! Do I use the same needle as usual (I bought some spares - just as well as I managed to bend one this week somehow - was a 90 degree angle 😂)

KrankyKumquat · 18/10/2024 11:23

@Slimstar13
Thank you, yes it feels unbelievable basically!
I can still remember broaching the subject of using MJ with my OH while we were walking the dog on a nice sunny day in May. I'd been researching so had all my evidence ready. 5 months later and here we are...I have to disclose another massive benefit - I'd developed a very unhealthy reliance on alcohol which I've also kicked, without ever really planning or expecting to.

Exactly the same as you have been doing. 2 clicks past 0, prime. Then when twisting to 1 it will stop, you just need to force it, twist a bit harder.. feel like your breaking it.. but it will go back to 1 then u can inject again..

Pinkbendyman · 18/10/2024 14:19

Congratulations @KrankyKumquat and @Slimstar13

To use my visual analogy of 2 litre bottles of Pepsi Max again - 101 pounds is a massive 22 (almost 23) bottles! Amazing 🤩 😮

Congratulations to all, and I (think) my weight/goal/loss tiwn @KrankyKumquat !!!

Edinburghmama99 · 18/10/2024 17:21

Has anyone had trouble with low blood pressure? I fainted this morning and I’ve I’ve definitely found that I’ve struggled in the morning with dizziness when I stand up. I went to see my GP about it today. She basically shut down and looked at me in disgust as soon as she saw that I was on Mounjaro. Honestly it was really disheartening. I’ve been taking the medication for 7 months and this has only just started. It seems to me it’s perfectly possible that it’s caused by something else but she she basically told me to go away and talk to the pharmacy that prescribed it. I’m concerned they’re going to say I have to stop taking it. It’s genuinely changed my life and I feel like I might have to stop 😭

SilenceInside · 18/10/2024 17:25

@Edinburghmama99 did she even take your blood pressure? I'd be tempted to complain to the surgery about the refusal to treat you.

Pinkbendyman · 18/10/2024 17:31

@Edinburghmama99 that’s incredibly unprofessional of your GP. Did she examine you and take your blood pressure whilst you were there?

What strength are you currently taking?

I only started with dizziness when I moved up to 12.5mg but it seems to have improved a lot since the first couple of doses on 12.5mg.

I think it’s recommended to increase your fluid intake too - hopefully others will be able to help 🤞

letshavetea · 18/10/2024 17:33

That’s not acceptable. If this happened to me I would probably ask to see a different GP. You have a right to ask for a review and a second opinion. I would also contact the practice manager and explain your experience - potentially leading to a complaint depending on the response received.
You could see a private GP. This shouldn’t have to be the case, but in your situation that is what I would do. Given what we are all spending on MJ it won’t cost that much!
Depending on the outcome consider changing GP practices going forward!

KrankyKumquat · 18/10/2024 17:35

@Edinburghmama99
That's terrible. Have you got a BP monitor to check for yourself? If not, I'd recommend getting one; you really need to know if that's what's actually going on if your doctor didn't check it for you. Then get a new doctor.

I've really struggled with low BP and dizziness since being on MJ. Having measured it, I don't feel it's low enough to give up (dropped from 140 to just under 100 almost as soon as i started) so have decided to self-manage/put up with until reduce dose in another month or so. So basically, just being very careful standing and bending over until later in the day when it seems to settle. And drinking plenty, including caffeine, no alcohol, and salt in diet.

GlueNoGlue · 18/10/2024 17:38

Weigh day for me. Down 2lb

SW- 20stone 2lb
CW- 14 stone 5lb
GW- 14 stone

might have to change my goal weight. I couldn’t imagine getting down to 14 stone when I started, now I’m thinking I might manage to be 13 by Christmas!

GlueNoGlue · 18/10/2024 18:41

Also- I’ve found a cure for the diarrhoea!!!!! I went on a cruise during the summer, and I get sea sick so I took tablets. Didn’t get ill for the first time in 9 months (it’s usually 3-4 days every single week!). Then last week I went away, took travel sick pills, did get the diarrhoea again!!! No clue why it works, and it only works when you’re taking them daily, but it works!

toomanycushionshere · 19/10/2024 04:07

Bit of a cry for help here - I’ve been on MJ for around 4 months with minimal side effects. I had a weekend away last weekend and ate more fried / sweet foods than I’d been eating. On Saturday night I was awake ALL night with the worst upset stomach I have ever had. Since then I’ve not returned to normal, although it got less frequent as the week went on. Now it’s back badly and everything feels like it’s going through me and my stomach is gurgling loudly and I’m burping lots.

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a bug or food poisoning. Imodium didn’t work to stop it. I hadn’t just increased a dose

Has anyone experienced this? It feels like the diet change (which wasn’t that radical but more than I have been eating) has almost switched something in my body? If so, do you have any advice? I’m miserable with it!

Good Morning all.

I got out of my long stall and am now so close to goal it's killing me!

In essence it doesn't really matter, it's just a specific rounded off number, and I'm feeling absolutely amazing atm, so comfortable in my own skin.

I've effectively rebought my entire wardrobe three times over in the last eighteen months, but I'm loving what I can wear now. I embarrassingly keep catching sight of myself on zoom calls and beaming. I can't help it. 😂

Went out for food last night and enjoyed what I chose, even shared a bit of dessert. No fuss, no regrets, just getting on without overthinking it. I'm so grateful to past me for taking the GLP1 leap.

I know lots of us are really close to goal now, what are everyone's plans for maintenance? Mine is to stay on a low dose for as long as I can. I'd happily take it for the rest of my life.

Edinburghmama99 · 19/10/2024 07:22

Hi, she did take my blood pressure yes and it was low. She then looked at the side effects of Mounjaro and basically told me to go away and talk to med express. She asked whether I’d had a proper examination and basically acted like I’d bought slimming pills from a hairdresser. I’ve been thinking about it overnight and too be honest I think it’s likely from following a healthier diet and therefore having a lot less salt. I’m not eating as much bread, crisps, chips etc. I’ll speak to med express as suggested but I feel really disheartened. My worry is they just jump to taking me off the injection when they’ve genuinely changed my life for the better.

Stop taking mounjaro immediately until you have spoken to both your provider and your doctor and speak to them both ASAP. As it's the weekend now I would actually call 111 and see if you can get some interim clinical advice. I insist on it.

Don't continue mounjaro without your doctor giving you the all clear.

Please read the safety, risks and side effects part of your information sheet that came in your pen box.

I am sorry if this sounds very blunt and direct, but you absolutely need to take this seriously.

I support you resuming the medication as long as your doctor has said you're fine to continue, but because none of us here are doctors you need immediate medical advice with those symptoms.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 19/10/2024 07:41

I've taken this image off of Lilly, but I think the side effects and risks are a bit more thorough in the information for use leaflets provided with the pens.

Please everyone remember: stomach pain that lasts, stomach pain after eating especially oily or sugary food, stomach pain either centrally or to the side that travels to the back, stomach pain that increases in intensity, dehydration, vomiting, diarrhoea, bile in either vomit or faeces, being unable to complete daily living activities due to discomfort, discolouration of the skin and/or eyes, extreme weakness and tiredness or any combination of the aforementioned you need to talk to a doctor at your earliest opportunity.

You might just be unlucky and have a stomach bug but this medication is not risk free and if left ignored these issues can become chronic with really serious outcomes.
