I agree @Wingingit11 but that's how I put on weight in the first place! Easy, high calorie foods are my downfall.

I mainly work from home these days but when I'm out at work I take food with me (I'd take something more portable than soup). I don't have time to cook three times a day either, as my days are usually 10-12 hours long, so I just make sure I have some leftovers. It's when I don't have reasonable food that I start gaining and I'm a bit scared of getting in that mindset again post-MJ. This is one of the 8 million instances in my life where I've discovered what works best for me and then not stuck by it, so I'm going to try harder this time.

Pinkjenny · 07/10/2024 20:18

To start with I was having a protein shake in the morning, then a jacket potato with salad for lunch, and a smaller version of the family meal.

Now, I can't manage breakfast so I'm aiming for two meals a day.

I had the tomato soup with wholemeal roll for lunch and I've just had a very small roast dinner. I am absolutely stuffed. I'm averaging around 1100 calories a day.

I haven't put any weight on or had a week where I've maintained, but I'm convinced that eating helps with the nausea. Plus, I know I'm a bit more controversial than some people on this thread, but I'm not spending the rest of my life barely eating. I'm trying to eat reasonable portions of normal stuff. Otherwise I'm absolutely convinced that this is completely unsustainable in the long term.

@Arraminta It's hard to tell how many calories are in that, but it doesn't sound terribly nourishing. I'm someone who probably eats at the lower end of daily calories as I'm very short and am a seral dieter, so nothing else works. I tend to eat between 800-1000 per day. But I'm struck by how little real food, especially veg, you eat. I'm a vegetarian (so biased!), but have to eat a bit more dairy than I normally would to get the calories/protein. I had two eggs for breakfast with tomato, cucumber and lots of spinach; homemade veg soup with cheese and Greek yoghurt; then tofu, quinoa and broccoli for tea, with some brazil nuts. This was about 900 calories but had a lot more veg and fibre than your day. I think if you're going to subsist on a low level of calories it's better if they don't come from small processed things like protein bars.

Actually today isn't that representative of the food I'm now eating, although it's probably representative of my daily calorie intake IYSWIM?

So yesterday I ate a big chicken Cesar Salad followed by a small piece of brownie + an apple + a tub of Greek yoghurt with honey.

Saturday was a brunch bowl with veggies, poached eggs and chorizo. Later some fruit and some soup.

@weaseleyes @Blondeshavemorefun I don’t disagree and would love to have rounded meals every day but if you are out at work all day etc grabbing a protein bar is an easy way to get calories in !
@Arraminta I think IF works well with MJ - not just suppressant wise but also if I understand correctly the interplay between effect on insulin

Yes, today was a hectic ' grab something' day for me. There's typically more veg and protein in my diet.

Before starting MJ my diet was far too sugary and crammed with empty calories and I felt my insulin was probably screwed up quite a bit. Plus I was carrying all my weight around my middle, so really unhealthy.

I'm similar

We have to eat proper stuff now or what wil we be like when stop mj

weaseleyes · 07/10/2024 20:58

I'll certainly be eating as much as I can without gaining when I'm done dieting! It's actually pretty upsetting for me that I can't eat more, as I love eating, and there's so much encouragement from other people to eat. There's nothing controversial about wanting to eat! I think what we're all wrestling with in our different ways (which vary immensely based on what we like to eat, why we've got overweight, how long we've been overweight for, experience of dieting, habits, age and millions of other variables) is how to eat for now and how we feel on MJ, and how to eat afterwards.

I've obviously spent much of my life getting eating wrong, so I'm thinking that actually there has to be less distinction between the now and after than I'd like. But that's because I've learned that certain foods lead me into overeating and I find it hard to stop. So I guess some people would say eat less of normal things now and go back to more when maintaining, and I'm finding that to lose weight I have to change what I eat in the first place and then stick to it - hopefully in somewhat larger quantities - afterwards. So I'm trying to change my idea of what counts as normal. Everyone will do what's best for them, of course.

Pinkjenny · 07/10/2024 21:19

@weaseleyes Completely agree with everything you've said. I think it's important to have one eye on life after MJ, even if we still have some way to go!

I have 19lb left to go before my original target, but that's still 16lb away from what would be considered a healthy BMI.

Hopefully I'll get there before Christmas and just see how I feel. I feel horribly bloated tonight but I no longer absolutely hate the mirror, which is a nice feeling.

itwasnevermine · 07/10/2024 21:20

Is anyone else sick of the toady threads designed to judge those of us on MJ?

itwasnevermine · 07/10/2024 21:20

Goady!!

AnnieMcFanny · 07/10/2024 21:24

Is anyone else sick of the toady threads designed to judge those of us on MJ?

No. I don’t give them even a minute of my time. They’re inconsequential.

weaseleyes · 07/10/2024 21:26

I have a quick look, then decide I'm being a masochist and ignore them.

itwasnevermine · 07/10/2024 21:33

I can't help myself 😅 it just annoys me so much

Arraminta · 07/10/2024 21:34

Nope, I never read them. Their ignorance isn't my problem.

Oh yes. I read but never reply

You were very calm in your reply @itwasnevermine Well done

itwasnevermine · 07/10/2024 21:37

@Blondeshavemorefun thank you. At the end of the day I know the judgmental people will always be that way, but it's just shocking to see how much disdain they have for overweight people

weaseleyes · 07/10/2024 21:40

It’s terrible to be overweight and terrible to do something about it. We can’t win! The disdain is grating, though.

Azuresky68 · 07/10/2024 21:41

Oh no...luckily I haven't seen any of those threads. I wouldn't know where to find them. But I have seen a few mean things said in a couple on non MJ threads. Thank goodness the MJ posters are kind and supportive xx

We must all suffer and survive on one singular bite of dust a day!!

(I was going to say one almond, but that would probably be too fatty for them, then one grape but they're full of sugar 😬)

Usually in aibu or chat

But mn so kindly move them to our board - not !!!

itwasnevermine · 07/10/2024 21:45

@Blondeshavemorefun yes that's what annoys me! They put them in this board even though they're not actually about the drugs

itwasnevermine · 07/10/2024 22:11

On a happier note I feel better about my food choices for tomorrow. Greek yogurt with berries and chia seeds and a portion of cottage pie for lunch, and I'm taking some protein whey juice stuff in a water bottle to add into my drinks through the day

itwasnevermine · 08/10/2024 07:00

I've finally broken my plateau and hit my first "big" goal in nutracheck!!!

Started at 291lbs, now at 263lbs, so that's two stone gone! Very close to 10% off (1lb), and I'm due on my period in the next week or so so usually I'm gaining weight around now! I really can't believe it, I could cry with happiness
