Sorry, meant to add - could anyone. Please tell me where you can order extra needles for the pen? Thank you.

LucyBnotG · 22/09/2024 22:35

@mimosa1 I ordered my spare needles from Chemist4U (link below). They do charge for delivery but they work out cheaper than other places that don't. These fit the pens exactly. They also sell the sharps bin if your MJ supplier doesn't send one. I haven't ordered the insulin syringes though so perhaps someone else can advise on that.

@Darkbutstarrynight I also think that my 60+ years of NHS care have made me complacent and complicit. I would not be prescribed this on the NHS so I am taking my health into my own hands, and that does feel a bit scary. It is a big step, and it's a significant decision. It is good to think hard about it, to read up about it and to look for support.

Darkbutstarrynight · 22/09/2024 22:42

@20bloodypounds
I'm not entirely sure why not to be honest....I wonder if because it fails I feel like I have run out of options if it doesn't work if you see what I mean? Weigh practically 19 stone now which is plain wrong personally and professionally. In the past have had an eating disorder but over the last 20 years have tried many things, losing and regaining several stone. Can manage the cost but it's not ideal, DH would be very supportive and says it's up to me as doesn't want to pressure me, could mange the side effects if it worked but would feel very guilty being off work as would see it as something self-inflicted O think....

MissBPotter · 22/09/2024 23:05

@Darkbutstarrynight i just ordered mine today! I was dithering about it a lot. I agree I can afford it but it’s still quite a lot of money and I could buy other stuff. But then I thought that if I lose weight I’ll be happier, healthier, have more energy, not develop other health conditions linked to weight and ultimately that’s more important than other stuff. Also I’ve recently turned 40 and I don’t really do anything else to look better, for me I would rather be slim than get my eyebrows or whatever done. I have tried loads of other things and nothing works, even when it makes no sense. Definitely think this could be an excellent reset and if I hate it i can always stop.
you are worth it so I think you should give it a go.

having said that I might change my mind if I get any of the side effects I’ve been reading about on here!

We're all different, but personally I think it's a good thing for us to listen to our own bodies and decide. It's one thing to to decide to take MORE than is recommended (which I wouldn't do without medical advice) but another to lower the dose because you feel better on it.

I'm midway through reading "Why We Eat (Too Much)" by Dr Andrew Jenkinson - I think you'd find it really comforting because it's making me realise it REALLY ISN'T OUR FAULT we struggle so much with weight. Obesity research is increasingly reaching this conclusion - I really encourage you to read this book.

What's more, being on MJ makes you realise how bloody easy life is for people who aren't always hungry and craving food. The lack of food noise is an utter release - no wonder naturally thin people can't understand why we struggle to control our weight - they have no idea!

I think that's a really good point @85reasons .I'm reading Ultra Processed People by Chris van Tulleken and he is making the same point.

That some people have a genetic predisposition which means our bodies react in a particular way to some processed food which means we can't control how we eat it. I haven't finished it yet but the theory seems to be that if you have the genes and the environment is right, you will end up with obesity. He talks about it being a disease and something that is totally not an issue of willpower, he basically says that dealing with it by willpower is impossible. This resonates with me - I have no issue with having a glass of wine and leaving the rest of the bottle, but biscuits and crisps are a totally different issue and its whatever I tell myself, I cannot stop eating them.

He doesn't talk (so far) about how drugs like MJ interact with this, but I wonder if the reduction in food noise is effectively the drug interfering with the processes in our bodies that make us crave the food. It does make me think though that avoiding processed foods might be the path to long term maintenance.

Morning.

3 full weeks on Mounjaro and I've lost a stone exactly. Now this is where I'd usually stop being motivated and stop loosing but I've just paid out the best part of £150 for 5mg so that in itself is an incentive to keep going.
No side effects apart from sore skin after the first jab and nausea, which I can cope with.

Just another 4 stone to go! 😭

violetsunrise · 23/09/2024 07:54

Day one of week 4 on 2.5 today. Weighed this morning and 2lb off so a stone in 3 weeks.

SW - 14st
CW - 13st
Height - 5ft 7

WitchyBits · 23/09/2024 08:13

Currently on week 6 and recently give up to 5mg.

Has anybody suffered mild chest discomfort? Could be heartburn, could be a pulled muscle. Hard to define but a kind of niggling mildly uncomfortable sensation from from sternum going ask the way through to my back. I am on omeprazole for GERD and it's recently been rapt well controlled so hoping it's just a resurfacing of those symptoms? I'm not thinking gallstones as even though I've lost 20+lb in 6 weeks it's not that bad. Just kind of like bad heart burn. I'm also not toileting regularly and have started taking senna so hoping it could be a bit of a traffic jam? God knows. Going to eat v clean this well and get as much fruit and veg in as I can

HippoPortlyMouse · 23/09/2024 09:24

Morning all,

Start of week 4 for me and I've had my biggest loss so far - 3.5lbs this week.

SW: 14st 13lbs
CW: 14st 4 lbs

Lost 9lbs so far and noticed my clothes fitting a little easier (I was really needing to go up a size but hate shopping and was squeezing myself into things). Off to do jab #4 of 2.5 now!

Congratulations to my fellow losers, and best of luck to those just starting their journey.

simb · 23/09/2024 09:26

Week 4 of 2.5 for me today.
Start weight 12st 5lbs
Current weight 11st 9lbs
10lb loss so far
Goal weight somewhere in the 9s

I'm feeling really pleased with my progress! Slow and steady wins the race and hopefully avoids loose skin!

I'm feeling frustrated with this morning's jab as there was so so much liquid on my skin when I removed the needle (much more than the last two weeks, but there has been for all the jabs apart from my first). I'm wondering whether I'm jabbing too slowly? I sort of do it in several small pushes rather than in one fluid motion and I think maybe this is what's leading to the liquid oozing out? Maybe the first week I was more nervous and did it more quickly to get it over with?

Does anyone have any advice (or any nurses or doctors on here?) Should I be pushing the quickpen down in one fluid motion more quickly? It would be great to get this right as I feel like I'm wasting some of my dose each week.

doodleschnoodle · 23/09/2024 09:29

I just push it down all the way slowly without stopping and then count to 5 or so before taking it out. Never had any probs doing it that way! Are you maybe taking it out instantly? A drop of liquid on the skin after isn't unusual though.

Well done that's marvellous! I too love the feeling of my clothes fitting and feeling comfortable!

doodleschnoodle · 23/09/2024 09:30

Or maybe the stop and starting is lifting the needle out of your skin? It's such a tiny needle that it would be easy to lift it out a bit without realising I think. I can't even tell it's in really!

W1-D6 and I feel like the MJ has worn off completely. No suppression of either appetite or food thoughts anymore.

I made a conscious effort last night to control the size of my dinner but I am starving this morning and already thinking about all the things I could eat. I am dreading 2 full days of this!

No I've actually been leaving it in way longer more like 15 seconds... next time I'm going to do it without stopping and just leave it 5 seconds.

I'm ok with a drop on my skin but today it really was a lot! My bad technique is wasting lots of meds!

Could the liquid on your skin be from the priming, not the dose? I realised that I prime my needle by holding the pen upright, some of the liquid than comes out and dribbles down the pen - where it then gets transferred onto my skin when I inject. So I'm getting the whole dose, but it looks like some hasn't injected properly, if that makes sense?

Thank you that's a very good point I hadn't thought of that... it's actually very possible, as the priming liquid does gather on the pen. Ok I'm feeling a bit better as yes that makes sense. I'll still aim to have a better jabbing technique next week, but hopefully I'm not wasting as much as I think (fingers crossed).

I'm taking my second tonight and will weigh myself in the morning. No side effects at all which I'm kind of concerned about. I also wonder if it's working. I've been fairly good with food so I will see what happens tomorrow. I have a lot to loose. Like loads and I don't think I feel like I've lost anything so I hope I'm not disappointed tomorrow.

A little update. I lost 8lb in my first week. Took my second last night and feeling a bit hungover. I've been reading forums on another site that suggests you may get better results injecting in different parts of the body. I tried thigh on my first but did stomach last night so let's see what happens.

85reasons · 23/09/2024 11:00

@SpiderMother yes I think that's going to be the key isn't it - if you have the predisposition you just can't eat these highly processed foods with abandon. In the WWE book, he talks about lot about your 'set weight point' which is why we often tend to bounce back to exactly the same weight as before dieting - and apparently tells you how to fix it to a lower weight - although I'm not at that bit yet!

I am however already wondering about a lifetime maintenance dose because the lack of chaotic mental obsession around food is amazing.

sylv165 · 23/09/2024 11:05

8lbs in one week is incredible @BankHolidayReset!

I'm on day 6 today. I was a bit worried about the weekend as it was my daughter's birthday on Friday and my sister's birthday on Saturday, so had a series of cake and/wine based events scheduled. Thankfully my suppressions still pretty strong. I didn't really feel like any cake so avoided it easily, and had 2 glasses of wine on Saturday without feeling the need for more. That is a huge difference for me.

I'm weighing daily and have lost 4lbs so far this week. I am a slow loser usually and have never lost more than 2lbs in a week ever. Just hoping it keeps working so well for me 🤞

Chenanceau · 23/09/2024 11:06

Just taken my 3rd dose. My skin on my right side around my hip (the side I injected last week) still feels sore and sunburned so I hope that doesn't happen on my left side today. I've spent the last 2 days feeling really hungry so I hope the suppression kicks in again soon.

I lost 2lb this week so that is 8lb in 2 weeks (unheard of for me - I am 5 foot nothing and normally struggle to lose 1/2 lb a week). Clothes still feel the same though, I suspect a lot in the first week was water weight.

KittyGetSmall · 23/09/2024 11:15

Anyone else a serial weigher and trying not to be?

I always weigher daily and it's no good for my head.

I'm trying to do things differently with mj and weigher in once a week is one of those things.

I find it really hard to not get on the scales though!
