I phoned Oushk yesterday to talk through dosing - having taken 3.5mg five days ago (following dose of 4.15mg causing nausea) and had little suppression. I was going to "top up" today with 1.5mg but after discussing with the prescriber am going to hold off till Friday and try for the full 5mg. This time I've braced myself with cyclizine!

HippoPortlyMouse · 16/10/2024 16:04

@85reasons this is not at all a criticism of Oushk, but they (and any prescriber) can't suggest splitting the dosage because it's against the prescription guidelines they have to adhere to. So that will be why you were advised to use a whole dose.

When we split a dose or count clicks to use a non-standard dose, we're also going against what we've been prescribed. Personally I am on a dose in between 2.5 and 5 and happy to do that, it works well. But it's not what I'm meant to be doing.

Hopefully 5 will work well for you and 🤞 you don't need the sickness meds!

85reasons · 16/10/2024 16:19

Yes I'd agree with that and I'm not normally bothered about going a bit rogue with these things - but because I'd found this dose doesn't seem to have worked (no weight loss for past two weeks plus not much suppression) I was starting to think I should maybe try the 5mg. Fingers crossed..!!

alwaysscared · 16/10/2024 16:22

I need some positive stories. I'm really considering stopping MJ. I'm on week 6 of 2.5mg and suppression has gone completely, I'm so hungry. I've gained 2lbs this week.
But I'm too scared to go up, having read the stories on here. I just don't know if I can do it. I'm so scared of being sick, severe emetophobia.

Why don't you get the 5mg pen and dose twice weekly with 2.5mg? that way you could minimise side effects but prevent the hungry / wearing off feeling.

alwaysscared · 16/10/2024 16:33

@Orangesandlemons77 the problem is that I don't feel any suppression at all on 2.5mg now, even the first few days

But I think taking it twice weekly it would build up more in your system? I'm no expert though.

Orangesandlemons77 · 16/10/2024 16:52

If it helps any I just sent up to 5mg and didn't get any more side effects, certainly wasn't sick.

You may need to take the plunge. Maybe start at 3.75mg then work up to 5mg if you need to.

If the 2.5mg is no longer working it means you are ready to move up. The medication is supposed to work like that. So it’s a sign to go up.

Im doing the same thing, was a bit scared to go up. So i did 2.5mg this week from 5 pen but found suppression is not great and im thinking about food alot. Will be going up to 3.75 this weekend. Wishing us both good luck and continuous health!

HOL2024 · 16/10/2024 18:22

I did a 3.75 from the 5 pen and it’s working great - weighing up taking six doses from it but I know it’s 35 days rather than 30 🤷🏻‍♀️

HippoPortlyMouse · 16/10/2024 19:04

@alwaysscared you have two choices really. Increase dose, or stop. Staying the same isn't doing anything helpful.

Take a moment to pause. Think them both through. Which would you regret more?

There's no right answer, and all we can do on here is support you whichever choice you make.

🤞 for you.

Justasmallgless · 16/10/2024 19:27

@alwaysscared
I know you were worried when you started on 2.5mg. What side effects did you have?
If you eat clean and try injecting after eating then 5mg should be ok for you

EBoo80 · 16/10/2024 20:02

@alwaysscared i remember how daunting you found starting at all. Are you with a provider who gives coaching or support? It feels like that might be helpful/a good investment for you.
I’d echo others that I have had no problematic side effects on 5, and that people mostly come here to ask for help when they are having side effects, or when they’ve had an amazing loss, so we get a skewed sample on here. But I appreciate that isn’t really much use to you!

alwaysscared · 16/10/2024 20:06

I've had nausea and constipation. But I'm always nauseous anyway (thanks bad mental health!)
The constipation is sorted now as the doc has prescribed some laxatives.
I don't have any support with it as it's through the doctors on prescription, and apart from a couple of phone calls from the nurse, I haven't had any communication with them

Cocoaone · 16/10/2024 22:09

@alwaysscared Can you ask your provider to prescribe an anti sickness with your next pen? There is one (cycli-something) which they can prescribe. It might make you feel better if you get any nausea.

I think it's always a risk with this medicine. I got slight nausea at the end of week 2 for the first time - and at that point the drug was at a much lower level in my system than at the start of the week.

alwaysscared · 16/10/2024 22:54

@Cocoaone they have prescribed me the anti nausea meds cyclizine

suze12 · 17/10/2024 08:30

Grrrr week 5 and I’ve only lost 1lb again. I used the bonus dose from the pen last week and in hindsight probably shouldn’t have done as I was definitely ready to move up as suppression had really waned.

I still don’t feel that I’m eating enough to warrant such small losses. 10lbs in 5 weeks really isn’t as much as I was hoping for seeing as I’m eating so much less than I was before I started.

I’m trying to concentrate on the positives though.. no impact on my social life, don’t feel like I’m dieting/having to try and am still on track to meet my Halloween goal of 12st7.

I had to take my dose a day early as nosey relative arrived yesterday and I didn’t want her discovering the pen in my fridge. I did 45 clicks of a 5mg pen to get 3.75 as I was worried about side effects. I was very tired last night but ok apart from that. Really really hoping for a whoosh this week.

@suze12 - I think you’ve done really well. The thing is an average of 1 - 2 lbs a week is recommended for healthy weight loss. Any more than that and you risk losing muscle and bone density. You’re also more likely to keep it off if you lose at this sort of rate. At this rate you will soon have lost a stone - which is fantastic progress.

SecondDesk · 17/10/2024 09:45

I am towards the slower end of the weight loss progress. No big jumps down here. I have a countdown timer with weeks and days from the date I started and next deadline - like Christmas.

I am also tracking total weight loss as the core measurement.

Week 5, day 5 1 stone 4lb down. 2nd week of 5mg and still a bit hungry. I could definitely eat normally. This is a much harder effort than I thought it would be.

I think the danger is in eating ever less to try to stimulate bigger losses - the body goes into starvation mode and responds by making you tired/sluggish rather than burning more energy.

You need to keep eating - it's so easy with the appetite suppression to try to push the calories downwards (or even just find yourself naturally eating very little) - but it's not a healthy approach and runs the risk of triggering other responses by the body.

mimosa1 · 17/10/2024 10:53

I I'm at the slower end of weight loss too. 4.2 kg lost in a month, most of it was the first week, and I've been losing the same half kilo since. Very similar to a previous poster. I'm pleased I've managed to keep it off though. I'm away for half term then will explore moving up a dose.

Totally agree with this. I think it is easy to get thrown by some people who have huge losses, but I think aiming for 1-2lbs per week is ideal. I’m really hoping to use my time on MJ to eat healthily and change my eating habits so I can maintain a lower weight in the longer term. I’m also about to start running and strength training to build muscle, again with a view to establishing good habits, and hopefully changing my body shape. I’m just nervous as exercise always seems to slow down movement on the scales, so will need to get my tape measure out to hopefully capture the return of my waistline!!

SacreBleugh · 17/10/2024 12:04

Just weighed in at the end of week 5 ( first week of 5ml). Trying not to be disappointed in a mere 1lb loss. 11lbs altogether. Eating around 10-1200 calories a day.

85reasons · 17/10/2024 12:11

@sylv165 just wanted to add that I've found myself slipping into that camp too - not eating enough and chasing bigger losses. My losses had slowed down. I haven't even weighed the last few days and almost "gave up" trying so hard and just eating what I felt like.. and it's been really good for me mentally. I'm wondering whether it's normal after a few weeks in to start trying to act a bit less like we're on constant alert for what we want to eat and how much we're losing and try to relax about it.

OldKnees · 17/10/2024 12:14

Weigh-in tomorrow and fifth dose. I’ve only done 2.5 mg so far and had spectacular side effects some weeks and very few on others. Can’t decide whether to stick at 2.5 or go up to 3.75 tomorrow and face possible arsegeddon. I lost only a tiny amount last week.
