@1957Bev I'm really not sure to advise anything if you have diverticulitis. Did you declare this when you signed up?
If so I would ring the prescribing company and ask them for advice as it's excruciating. The only that helped me was the psyllium husk tablets

Thank you. I’ve seen my gp. I have antibiotics and she’s given me Laxido for when the infection has cleared up. I will try the husks tho.

20bloodypounds · 09/10/2024 23:25

@WitchyBits I think if you can lose weight without surgical intervention, that it a good way to progress.

@WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe I've just looked, and I've lost 6%. Wow that is motivating!

Had my 6th injection today, the first of my second pen. I've stuck to 2.5mg for the next month but I might increase over the final 2 weeks of this pen.

My weight has stayed the same this week, so still 12lbs lost over 5 weeks. I'm not surprised as my daily weighing has been very steady. I also had a cock up last week where the 'hard twist bonus dose' didn't work, I injected late and with a small amount. Added to that has been a very social week with my sister. Small amounts of food but high calorie (e.g. a meal out with creamy sauces, plus more alcohol than I've had for weeks).

The next week is equally challenging - 5 days with extended family for a big double birthday celebration. However, the fabulous thing about MJ is that I know that I can easily eat one crisp and not want/crave all the rest; I can go for coffee and cake and simply order a coffee (no cake); I can drink half a glass of wine, and feel content without having to have several more.

I might not be posting much over the next week (out of the way rural place for the birthday celebrations). Given the challenges, and the low dose that I am on, I'm not really expecting to lose much. But if I can remain the same, I'll be happy.

And if I can get internet access, I'll be cheering you all on!

InfoSecInTheCity · 09/10/2024 23:32

There is currently 9% less of me than there was on 19th August 2024.

And I'm going to whisper this very quietly so as to not jinx it, but I'm only 1 lb away from leaving the Obese BMI range and becoming merely an overweight person.

20bloodypounds · 09/10/2024 23:36

@InfoSecInTheCity I hear your whisper... sshhh!

Hildabaggins · 10/10/2024 00:12

I took my bonus dose from my first pen tonight. I thought I wasn’t going to be able to twist the pen, it got stuck about 15 clicks in but I managed eventually.

InfoSecInTheCity · 10/10/2024 06:34

Morning all, some amazing results on here. Just finishing week 4 of 2.5mg and 12lbs down, which is brilliant. I have the 5mg ready to go, but am unsure whether to continue!

I haven’t had any physical side effects bar a few more headaches than usual over a month long period, but I just really do not feel like myself. I have no desire to cook for my family, plan recipes, read cookbooks (huge and enjoyable parts of my life), and even away from food I don’t have any impetus to do anything much. Which is not ideal with two children/job/pets/house to run. Has anyone had this, and does it pass?

Hildabaggins · 10/10/2024 08:27

I lost 1lb this week. I’m a bit disappointed as I only lost 0.5lb last week and then I did a midweek weigh in and I’d lost 2lb so I must have put 1lb on 😬 oh well. 1lb is better than nothing.

I had it for the first couple of weeks and then it passed. I actually found I enjoyed cooking more after that. We are eating far more varied food now. Because I know I can eat it, as I will only be eating a small portion.

I did my first 5mg and Tuesday and yesterday and today I have had far more energy and finding myself being more productive.

WonkyD · 10/10/2024 10:02

I just took my 4th dose of MJ. I only lost 1lb last week despite being really good with my food.

I usually have my injection on a Wednesday but as I was out with work all day (I usually WFH) and was rushing around in the morning I decided to postpone until today when I am at home all day and could do the injection calmly.

As I have had no side effects and my suppression has been wearing off after a few days I decided to do my usual 2.5mg plus have the bonus dose to take me to 3.75mg. OMG, almost as soon as I had done it I felt “weird” like my blood sugars plummeted. I forced myself to eat an apple and I feel much better now, not quite normal but not like I am going to pass out. Has anyone else had this? It was scary as I am here on my own.

It has made me think I need to research a bit more about what the drug is actually doing to me. I know it was originally designed for diabetics. Is it possible for us to give ourselves a hypo?

I only had a 1Ib loss on week 3 but by the end of the first month I was 1 stone down. It does fluctuate with hormones, so I wouldn't worry too much about one low loss week. As long as overall it's a downwards trajectory it will be fine.

Well you have gone against the guidelines.. 4 doses of 2.5 to get your body used to it before going up a dose..

People take 3.75 etc for their 5th dose to bridge between..

But there was some woman on here who took extra on her 3rd dose with no reaction or side effects so as people say, everyone is different and reacts differently..

If you took the 4th and the bonus then that would be 2.5 plus another 3.75.. maybe that's what happened?? .

I didn’t take the full bonus, just 30 clicks, so half a dose. There is still loads left in the pen.

I realise now there is a typo in my original post. I put “have the bonus dose” when I meant “half the bonus dose”

It was just strange as it happened so quickly, like I wouldn’t have thought I had even had enough time to absorb the drug fully.

morbidcuriosity · 10/10/2024 10:39

An odd one then. Least you feel better now..

I fucked up near the beginning, suppression was 100% and I didn't eat for about a day and a half, nearly fainted.. haha. Won't make that mistake again.

Edited

Do you take any other medication? It can cause very low blood sugar but only in people taking other diabetic medication.

I would be surprised if it caused a crash like that so quickly. Have you eaten today? Were you rushed or had a busy morning?

As op said, you should take 4 doses of 2.5mg. Before moving up. So your body has time to get used to it. Some people might get away with moving up quicker. Some might not.

I would try and eat something more substantial than an apple. See if it helps.

EBoo80 · 10/10/2024 11:35

I felt very odd after one of my first jabs, but I think because I had gotten myself anxious about taking it, and I felt dizzy and light-headed instantly. Maybe it was an emotional reaction to doing the extra jag?

mimosa1 · 10/10/2024 12:46

Hi everyone,
Congratulations @InfoSecInTheCity - exciting news.

@WonkyD that's never happened to me. I usually get side effects 24-36hrs after my dose. Glad you're feeling better now

HippoPortlyMouse · 10/10/2024 12:58

Well done @InfoSecInTheCity, thats a milestone to celebrate (not with anything high calorie, mind you)! 😆

It sounds like it's working for the majority of us - despite side effects and slow losses sometimes. My scales haven't shifted for the past few days but thanks to mounjaro I don't have cravings for sympathy chocolate, that's an achievement in itself.

WonkyD · 10/10/2024 13:25

@SwiftiesVSLestat No other medication apart from HRT which I have disclosed to my provider. I had been to the gym a few hours earlier. I thought as my suppression had been wearing off so quickly I was going to be one of those people that could get away with moving up quickly but maybe not.

@EBoo80 You could be onto something, I’ve read a lot of posts recently about bad reactions which were playing on my mind. I was also a bit anxious about the hard twist.

LucyBnotG · 10/10/2024 13:51

@InfoSecInTheCity That's fantastic! Well done. How does it feel to no longer be obese? That's a complete dream of mine but I'm a long way off.

Yeah totally understand that thinking. Really you would think if a lower dose isn’t doing anything you can up it. I was temped to do the same until someone on a thread on this board advised me to give 2.5mg a full 4 doses before changing it.

If you had been to the gym and also not eaten or not eaten a lot, a bit of anxiety around injecting could have just pushed your body a bit too far. Rather than it being the injection itself.

Are you feeling any better?

EBoo80 · 10/10/2024 14:32

Yes, do hope you’re feeling better @WonkyD.

GaladrielAndBaggins · 10/10/2024 14:34

Well done everyone for the weight loss, no matter what amount!

I’m on my second week of 5mg and haven’t had bad physical side effects as such - hopefully that’s reassuring for some. Losing steadily at approximately 1-2lbs per week which I’m happy with.

However my enjoyment of food has really diminished and I miss it. Even first cup of tea in the morning used to be “aaaah that’s nice!” now it’s just … blah … Don’t think I’d like to be like this forever. Anyone else feel the same?

I've been thinking the same re enjoyment of food. I don't miss the food I was overeating before. I miss the feeling of indulging and process of eating it. I have good suppression and manageable cravings but I'm a little sad that inhaling food is a thing of the past. I think my feelings are exaggerated compared to your morning cuppa but I'm starting to see how my disordered eating was woven into my life before.

My grandma says there are people who eat to live and people who live to eat. I was in the latter camp but perhaps mj is helping me become the former.
