Hi everyone,
Am finding that the 1.25mg suppression is wearing off and I've been snacking a lot so looking forward to going back in 2.5 after next week.
@Stormyinacoffeemug I'm sorry to hear you're having such a tough time. What dose are you on? Have you tried speaking to your provider?

InfoSecInTheCity · 02/10/2024 17:10

@Stormyinacoffeemug you've barely started your diet, you really need to look at this as being a long term plan. You are still on the loading dose of MJ which is just to get your body used to it, yes some people lose weight on it, but not everyone and you're not expected to. It's when you get onto the higher doses that the weight loss is expected to kick in.

You say that your eating and drinking has reduced but are you tracking your intake to see what that means calorie wise?

A handful of nuts for example are healthy, full of good fats and nutrients, great for you, but really high calorie.

My jab day is Friday and today I feel like I've got no suppression at all. Yesterday too :(

loveulotslikejellytots · 02/10/2024 18:53

@InfoSecInTheCity that's the name of the cottage cheese! I saw it mentioned somewhere else and couldn't remember the name. I bought a different one this week, Grahams? I think it was called. Yet to try it but I'll keep an eye out for the other one. And thanks for the ideas for snacks, I've never tried jerky so I'll give that a go.

Dmsandfloatydress · 02/10/2024 21:57

Weighed myself firvthe first time since starting mournjaro. My waist is down from 32 inches to 29.5 and I'm 11.1. I'm down a dress size so I'm thinking I've lost about a stone! It's amazing. 5mg needle has arrived but I took the bonus dose yesterday to work up to 5mg. If I lose anther stone I'm back at a healthy BMI!

This is perfectly normal unfortunately. Mounjaro has a half life of 5 days so after 5 days half the dose you took on Friday has left your body. As you get up to higher doses you might not notice it as much but think of it as time to practice making healthy food choices and possibly a time to enjoy a little bit more food freedom before the next jab when you get back onto dieting. I try to time my injections so days 6 and 7 are when I might be socializing. My friends don't know about Mounjaro so the reduced suppression helps me eat a bit more so they don't think my lack of appetite is odd.

Can anyone offer advice on stomach pains. It's high up and feels like a digestion thing. I am on my third week of 2.5 and I seem to have it on and off most of the time. I'm eating well. No high fat. It's woken me up. Also have lots of burps but not sulphur ones. Some people take probiotics and digestive enzymes. Should I be shopping for these first thing?

Plenty of fluids. Electrolytes. Digestive enzymes. Low fat high protein foods. Stop eating when full. Track calories. And give it time.

Managed to do my bonus dose last night.

This is my first one and I am on 2.5ml. I have the 5 for my next one.

i know this sounds stupid. But I don’t feel as suppressed as I did the first few weeks. But I am definitely eating less. But I have noticed snacking has gone up slightly. Very slightly. I am still on 3 small meals a day. I feel like a snack, then 9 times out 10 I look for one and don’t want to eat anything so don’t have one. If I do it’s much smaller than a previous snack had been.

It’s almost like food noise has increased again, but suppression is working maybe? I do also have a stinking cold and chest infection so maybe that has me feeling different?

I still can’t decide wether to go up to 5 or not. I preferred the no food noise. But don’t really want to increase the suppression to the point I struggle to eat.

In other news I have found a fix for my constipation. Ground flaxseed in my yoghurt in a morning and a slice of Aldi dark rye sour dough, toasted, as some point during the day. I am now going everyday. Even though it’s not loads as I am not eating loads. But feel much better. It’s more carbs than I was planning but I would rather not be constipated.

I took my bonus 2.5 dose on Monday and while I’m not hungry or eating more, after four weeks of no food noise I’d say I have some this week. I don’t WANT to snack or eat more but food is definitely in my mind more. I’ve gone four and a half weeks and not eaten one bag of crisps which is unheard of for me so I’ll definitely be taking the 5mg on Monday as don’t want the temptation.

doodleschnoodle · 03/10/2024 08:07

Week 4 weigh in!

SW: 203lbs
CW: 184.1

18.9lbs lost Shock Still can't believe it! I wore a top yesterday I haven't been able to in ages, and it fitted absolutely fine.

I've bought the 5mg pen but think I'll stick at 2.5 as getting good results.

Hildabaggins · 03/10/2024 08:26

Just done my 4th injection. I only lost 0.5lb this week. I’m disappointed but it’s better than putting on eh! I’ve lost 7.5lb in 3 weeks.

SecondDesk · 03/10/2024 08:56

@Forevermermaid I'm planning on moving to 5mg for my second injection. My weight loss has been a slow (but respectable) 2lbs a week. I'd be happy with just one bigger drop.

@Stormyinacoffeemug I feel bloated for the first two days. Nothing like you describe. You should get checked out.

1957Bev · 03/10/2024 09:24

Can someone tell me what a bonus dose is please? I get mine from Asda. Don’t think I’ve seen it mentioned. Thanks.

When you've had your 4 official doses there is usually a 5th dose left in the pen, extra incase any of the 4 doses go a bit wrong.

Instead of throwing it away some people get it out by either 'breaking the pen to twist to a 5th dose' or using insulin needles to draw out the dose.

It's not recommended officially and the companies would say not to do it but it's a free week so people make their own choices.

I will be using it.

If you look on YouTube there ate tutorials for both methods of extraction

Wow @doodleschnoodle, well done. That is incredible!

There's extra medication in pen to cover any lost from priming needle but there's usually at least a whole dose left at the end of the 4 doses. Asda usually send extra needles so you can just attach the needle and do a hard twist, it'll feel like you're going to break the pen but just twist hard, and you will be able to use the extra medication.

You can also use a syringe and needle to extract it from pen, but the pen twisting method seems to work fine. I did a little of the bonus dose on Sat alongside my normal one to prepare for going up to 5 but decided since to stay at 2.5, so I should have just waited and used the bonus dose for week 5! Oh well.

Wow @doodleschnoodle, well done. That is incredible!

Thank you!

It's not quite been plain sailing, I've had some gastric issues and I had about a week of feeling awful and weak until my husband pointed out I was hardly eating, and when I looked at my calories some days I barely made 500, so no wonder I felt like crap! It sounds weird but it didn't even occur to me because I didn't feel hungry, so I think it's easy to assume you're getting the nutrients you need when you're not if you have strong suppression. So now I make myself eat three meals, even if they are just small and get to at least 1000 cals a day

O I see. I got 5 needles in my first box. Maybe I could use that. I’m staying on the 2.5 for my next4 weeks. So does it give you a full 2.5 dose? If so, do you take it as two doses at the same time or just re-order a week later? Thanks for the info.

SecondDesk · 03/10/2024 10:23

I got 5 needles in my first box too.

I'm going to take 2.5mg bonus dose on Saturday as usual. I will try taking another 2.5mg halfway through.

My downfall is usually the weekend. Taking my injection on a Saturday gives me willpower not to participate with the Chinese takeaway and wine on Friday nights. (So far).

I weigh myself on Thursday and Saturday. 4th injection., week 4, day 5 I have lost 3.5lbs so far since last week. However, my weight is going up and down during the week. I usually even out the week on a 2lb loss.

NSV is my skin is looking very healthy. I'm taking lots of supplements including collagen. I can see it, even if other can't.

I have ordered some psyllium husk with probiotic to get things moving. Thanks for the recommendation.

To all those seeing slower progress. There are 11 weeks to Christmas. You might lose 11lbs which is nearly a stone. If you didn't do anything, you would weigh the same or more. 💐

If you're staying on 2.5 use it as an extra week on its own otherwise you'll be taking 5mg with 2 x 2.5 jabs.

I'm staying on 2.5 too for my 2nd pen but I've ordered a 5mg pen and will just do a half dose
That way if I want to go upto 5mg during the month I can. Or 3.75

20bloodypounds · 03/10/2024 10:47

@doodleschnoodle fantastic - good to have got things settled and working and good that you've got a supportive dh. And so motivating to find clothes fitting again. I have a lovely ring that I'd stopped wearing because it was too tight. It slipped on easily this week.

@violetsunrise you've made me realise that I also have not had a bag of crisps, or even one single crisp, since starting. I am astonished! Taking bonus 2.5mg later today, and staying on 2.5 for the next weeks.

dh is going on a cycling holiday with his mates at the weekend and I'm looking forward to just eating what I want for a while.

Hildabaggins · 03/10/2024 10:56

I think I need to start tracking what I’m eating. I’ve just been eating what I feel like. Dinners have been a small portion of whatever the rest of the family are having.

I had one slice of pizza and some salad for my dinner the other night. There was pizza leftover. I was sitting there, looking at the pizza, thinking ‘do I want this or not??’ I did want to eat it but I was not hungry at all so I left it!

I can’t remember a time in my life where I’ve only had one slice of pizza if more was available!

violetsunrise · 03/10/2024 11:06

@20bloodypounds It’s so liberating isn’t it! Crisps were my go-to snack.

SacreBleugh · 03/10/2024 12:49

I've just done my 4th injection and I've just lost 2lbs this week. So 8lbs altogether. I'm a bit disappointed I'm not seeing the spectacular losses of some people but it's solid enough progress for a post menopausal sort.

Just a quick check-in on bonus jab day -

SW 98kg
CW 93.6kg 🎉
Loss so far - 4.4kg, nearly 10lbs! A newborn, a cat or a 22 inch TV!

Very pleased with 4 weeks of progress - I weigh every day so I can see the fluctuations - graph attached here as I think its so useful to reassure anyone who sees a 'plateau' or a gain:

I've got a 5mg pen in the fridge, as I took the 'bonus' dose today.

Feeling really, really positive about this whole process - I'm not permanently obsessed about what my next food will be, and my meal plans are helping make sure I get a decent mix of nutrients without being tied into any extremes. If it helps anyone, things we've had this week:

  • paella (rice, tinned toms, peas, with prawns, chorizo and some smoked sausage slices)
  • fishcake and brocolli
  • Baked chicken leg and salad
  • Higgidy chicken pie - half left for lunch!
