I have heard quite a few of us mention ‘holding on water’ particularly when exercising? Is this a side affect of Mounjaro or is the exercise causing us not to lose so much? Im just bit confused as i always thought exercise got rid of water retention.

It depends on how vigorous your exercise is, but essentially if you end up with achy muscles then you've done 'damage' to the muscle fibres. It's not necessarily a bad thing, you build muscle by damaging the fibres and then they rebuild and so on,

However the process of healing those muscle fibres requires water, so your body holds on to what it has to facilitate that process.

Thanks for the reply, that makes a-lot of sense!

@doodleschnoodle yes, I'm usually looking forward to our veg box delivery, it's my inspiration for the week.. But now I'm a bit overwhelmed. I think I'll reduce to every second week.

Elephantino · 01/10/2024 23:16

Took my bonus 2.5mg dose on Friday and today I am so hungry, like heartburn inducing hunger. Have had 3 meals today and ryvita as a snack at 9pm and now I'm in bed with a hungry tummy. Have bought 5mg, may need to inject earlier than Friday if this continues, plus my weight has gone up 4lbs. Still have an unexpected period from hell too 😒

SageInspo · 02/10/2024 03:45

Took my 1st dose a week ago today and have weighed myself this morning... 6.1 lbs down!! Can't believe it!

I weighed myself in the evening last week and morning this week and I know that's made a difference.. my loss probably isn't 6.1 lbs but I'm taking it! Small wins! 🙌

Not a small loss at all. Love that you weigh so early in the morning!Smile

GoldieLocks09 · 02/10/2024 07:30

Week 1 weigh in and I’ve lost 6lbs 🥳 I actually had a cheeky weigh in on friday and haven’t particularly moved since then but after a weekend of birthday celebrations for DH and 2 takeaways (!!!) I’m thrilled with that. I also need to remember that DS is only just about to turn 1. Looking back on my weight data I actually weighed almost 2 stone more 3 -4 months pp in January so it’s slowly but surely coming off! Have chosen to delay my second jab by 24 hours to try and get it to work with my holiday in a few weeks. Wish me luck and will power as I can definitely feel a lot less restriction but just need to make it to tonight!

InfoSecInTheCity · 02/10/2024 07:32

Well done on the losses ladies!

Scales this morning read 199.9 lb so it's an 'only just' but I'm officially under 200lbs now🎉🙌🎉

SageInspo · 02/10/2024 09:05

Well done 👏

I've come onto my period this morning, eight days early?! 😬 Is this something I need to worry about? I'm usually regular and never early.

SwiftiesVSLestat · 02/10/2024 09:07

Managed to do my bonus dose last night.

This is my first one and I am on 2.5ml. I have the 5 for my next one.

i know this sounds stupid. But I don’t feel as suppressed as I did the first few weeks. But I am definitely eating less. But I have noticed snacking has gone up slightly. Very slightly. I am still on 3 small meals a day. I feel like a snack, then 9 times out 10 I look for one and don’t want to eat anything so don’t have one. If I do it’s much smaller than a previous snack had been.

It’s almost like food noise has increased again, but suppression is working maybe? I do also have a stinking cold and chest infection so maybe that has me feeling different?

I still can’t decide wether to go up to 5 or not. I preferred the no food noise. But don’t really want to increase the suppression to the point I struggle to eat.

In other news I have found a fix for my constipation. Ground flaxseed in my yoghurt in a morning and a slice of Aldi dark rye sour dough, toasted, as some point during the day. I am now going everyday. Even though it’s not loads as I am not eating loads. But feel much better. It’s more carbs than I was planning but I would rather not be constipated.

ginnybag · 02/10/2024 09:16

Midway through my 4th week and had a sneaky weigh in this morning...

I've dropped (only just but I taking it) into the 14 stone bracket!! Almost 16 lbs lost since starting.

Next mini-goal - seeing that lbs number start with a 1, hopefully by my birthday later this month, but I'll be happy if it happens before a black tie do I have in the middle of November.

HippoPortlyMouse · 02/10/2024 09:31

@SwiftiesVSLestat I'm feeling really similar. I've opted to click count and go to 3mg from a 5 pen - and increase from there if I feel I need it. (I took my bonus dose on Monday, there was about 3mg left in the pen).

I've also had a cold - feels like I must have shed a few calories with all the nose blowing! Plus regular monthly hormones.

Also having increased food noise, but I can tolerate it - I feel better able to manage if, if that makes sense? Feels like it's easier to keep portions to a sensible size and resist the snack urges. So I guess that's the mounjaro working on my brain. I also don't want to get to the point where I'd struggle to eat - because I think I'd find it too easy not to eat, and that isn't healthy. So increasing dosage v slowly.

@SageInspo yes it can definitely mess with periods - you're not the first person to report that. Makes sense I guess - big changes to diet, hormones and lifestyle.

@InfoSecInTheCity well done! I've seen that called "one-derland" and it's a very satisfying achievement.

As of yesterday, I'm down a whole stone! That really feels like progress.

doodleschnoodle · 02/10/2024 09:46

Have had to transfer my wedding and engagement ring onto a necklace after I almost lost them down plughole yesterday! Will need to get them resized if I continue to lose weight I think.

My period was 2 weeks late!

I was very brave this morning, I booked on to a Strength and Development class at our local health centre. It was at 6.25 this morning!

Everybody was friendly, it was all women of a similar age and the instructor found time to come and help me. My bum aches now 😆

One amazing woman has just turned 73 and won the gyms monthly competition by doing a 23.5 minute plank! Now that’s a goal …

loveulotslikejellytots · 02/10/2024 12:00

@SageInspo yes, mine have been all over the place since starting. I'm on the mini pill so don't usually have periods. But I've had 2 short ones in 4 weeks since starting the injections.

I'm definitely noticing the difference being on the 5mg. I don't want to eat at all. I'm making myself have breakfast (late) and dinner. I've also got some high protein snacks on the shopping, ryvita and cottage cheese, some baked chickpeas, loads of eggs which I'll boil and keep in the fridge. Anyone else got any suggestions of good snacks. I tried on of the protein yogurts from Aldi, I wasn't that keen, it was so thick!!

Stormyinacoffeemug · 02/10/2024 12:10

Started Mounjaro and I'm due my third injection on Saturday morning.

Can anyone help with these three things?

1 - I haven't lost any weight so far even though my eating and drinking has reduced massively. Shouldn't I have lost something?

2 - (posted this earlier in the thread but no responses) after my second injection, my abdomen and chest, especially on the left feel full, almost swollen inside. Find it hard to explain but when I try to relax, like when I curl up on the sofa, I can't sit how I normally do and can only sit comfortably if I extend that side - does that make sense? Should I be concerned?

3 - I can't afford over £120. I got a discount for my first pen but next pen is £149. If I switch provider, I can get it down to £122 with a discount but then what do I do for pen 3?

Should I even purchase further pens after considering points 1 & 2 above?

Please help.

KittyGetSmall · 02/10/2024 12:20

I'm not sure what to do.

My 3rd injection day is on Friday but I have a birthday party on Saturday and my first 2 injections made me really ill the next day.
I can't bring it forwards a day as I also have an important meeting on Friday afternoon.

Could I delay it till Saturday?

Longley farms full fat cottage cheese. It is the only cottage cheese worth eating and puts all other brands to shame!

Full fat Greek yoghurt, not Greek style, the real stuff. It's way better and has more protein so will make you feel full longer, only ever comes in the big pots though which is a bit annoying as have to decant it.

I try to have the following in the fridge/cupboard too:

  • cooked sliced chicken, sainsburys do snack pack sized bags ,100 calories a pack in a few different flavours like bbq or chilli and lime.
  • boiled eggs
  • beef jerky, I like the Ember brand which is refrigerated but Jack Links do a nice sweet and hot one that you can keep in the cupboard or your handbag for emergencies.
  • FibreOne chocolate brownies for those days when cake is a need rather than a want. Blitz in the microwave for a few seconds and they get nicer.
  • chocolate mint protein shake powder. I make it with just 100ml water and a whisk so it turns into a mousse texture, or with the full amount of water and then microwave it for minty hot chocolate.
  • mini wrap with almond or peanut butter
  • Good Guys cheese crackers (5 cals each) with cheese spread or cottage cheese.

Not high protein but good snacks

  • greenbeans/asparagus/sugarsnap peas. 3 mins in the microwave with a dash of water steams them for a quick hot snack, season as desired.
  • carrots/peppers with hummus
  • Crumpet Thin (warburtons) with a bit of butter.
1957Bev · 02/10/2024 12:40

Hello everyone. I’m probably slightly older than most of you on here - 67 in a couple of weeks - but would like to join a chat re mounjaro. Hope I’m not too old! I feel I do qualify for mumsnet as we have 6 kids and 14 grandchildren!
I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I have a gastric band, fitted in 2010. Still works. But it’s really hard to deal with. Anyway, I won’t go into it all as I will be writing War & Peace! So, I decided to try Mounjaro after months of deliberation, not least of which was the cost. I’ve just done my third jab of 2.5. I’ve lost 7.25lbs. I get it from Asda. I’ve found them absolutely great. The drs come back quite quickly if you have a question and it’s so much cheaper than Boots. I would just like to know if anyone has any side effects I’m having actual stomach discomfort as opposed to bowel. Bloating. Constipation. Anyone else.

20bloodypounds · 02/10/2024 13:46

@1957Bev I'm in my 60s too.

@loveulotslikejellytots rollitos are a good snack to have handy (cheese wrapped in ham / salami / chorizo. I also like the M&S meat crisps

End of week 4 and total of 12lbs down, which I am verey happy with. Felt quite poorly most of this week with gut pains and very little appetite, yesterday was the first day I felt really OK. I had a nice lunch but only managed a few morsels for dinner. I'm going to delay taking my bonus dose until tomorrow evening to let my system settle down a bit and so I can enjoy a lunch out with a friend tomorrow. I'm sticking with a 2.5mg pen for the next round and I may even take it in 2 x 1.25mg doses.

@Stormyinacoffeemug difficult to know why you've not lost any weight, are you drinking plenty of water? Also you're only one and a half weeks in, and sometimes it can take our body time to adjust to any new eating regime. Does your pen provider have a chat/help line? Ask them about any worrying side effects. I was fine for the first 3 weeks, but last week I had a lot of bloating and gut pain so I'm thinking about taking my next injections in two half doses.

20bloodypounds · 02/10/2024 13:48

Also @Stormyinacoffeemug there's a table taht shows the prices for all mounjaro suppliers, I'll see if I can find it... and link. Unless someone else links it first.

Hi I am not expert but I would say

1, you aren’t that far into your journey. About 12 days? There could be lots of reasons. But a lot of people don’t see a big or any difference when on 2.5g. Or You could be eating less but actually eating at maintenance level for your height/weight/activity level. Do you know how many calories you are eating? It could be water retention (I find Celtic sea salt in a couple of coffees a day helps me get rid of water retention). It could be hormonal or a mixture of all of them. Do you have a lot to of weight to lose? If you don’t it could just be slow to go.

2, I haven’t had those symptoms I would contact your provider and discuss with them. To me, it sounds like something you should check out with a professional.

3, The sheet attached above is a good place to get information on the prices

4, I think only you can decide that when you have some professional advice about point 2, especially.

Its just my opinion but I hope it helps ☺️

Thank you. Yes, I would prefer a bit of food noise instead of full on suppression. I totally get more food noise but it being manageable. That’s where I am at. Although I did love the zero food noise, I think this is better.

I will have a look at going between 2.5 and 5 with clicks.
