Mounjaro - Late September Starters

ShiftAMountain · 19/09/2024 14:27

I see so many threads for people who all started about the same time as each other and think it must be good to have people at similar stages that you can share stories with and go through it all together.

There is a Sept thread but those guys have all started already.

Anyone due to start in the second half of Sept that would be interested in a thread?

I am just waiting delivery of my first pen today but don't plan to inject until Sunday evening. I WFH so cannot work out if having the 'worst' of any side effects ruining the weekend is better/worse than having to work through them on Mon/Tue. However, I have a couple of weekend social things coming up and decided it might be easier to do them when my previous injection is starting to wear off a bit - so Sunday nights it is!

I actually think the appetite suppression kicking back in isn’t a bad thing - I hope I can use that time to make sure I’m still eating (hate this word) mindfully, instead of shovelling in chocolate like it’s going to be ripped away from me. I’m only on day 3 so am still eating much much smaller portions but I’ll be interested to see how I feel come Saturday.

In an ideal world I won’t be on this forever (although I’m prepared to be if necessary) so I kind of want to use the days when it’s worn off to make sure I’m fully educated as to what my body needs and really listening to when it’s full.

Also I stupidly didn’t do proper research and bought from Superdrug where my first pen was £225 😭

Ouch. It's £129 from Numan with a discount code (I posted one in the codes thread or can share via DM if you need one next time). Their app is really useful too for logging weight, keeping track of dose and for support.

Cocoaone · 01/10/2024 06:33

@10storeylovesong - firstly, are you having lots of water? Have a coffee then go for a brisk walk in the morning I find best and can help move things along. If you feel the urge but it's not happening, sit in a squat position for 5-10 mins which can signal your body that it's time to go

Failing that, you might need to get some psyllium husk or flax seed to add to your food which will bulk out your stool, and you've much less food in your system to get rid of

Cocoaone · 01/10/2024 06:43

I was definitely hungrier yesterday, before lunch I had a snack on some chicken and before bed I was really hungry. But annoyingly, I went shopping at the weekend when I literally couldn't even think about food, so the cupboards are bare of any snacks bits! I need to go and get some fruit and veg and dip - the fibre will be good!
Managed 1100 calories and that included 80g protein and 4 portions of veg, so miles better than the weekend.

I'm pondering moving my jab day from Thursday night to Sunday night if the suppression is going to be so strong in the first few days. Over the weekend I'm around the family more and my teen DD has already commented 'is that all you're eating?!' twice now. She's overweight herself with extremely limited diet due to food aversions, so I'm trying to model healthy eating habits, not that her mum is starving herself. Hard to know if it will wane as my body gets used to the dose though!

Ozgirl75 · 01/10/2024 07:11

Today was my first day back to my exercise class which was heavy weights, and then my sons and I took a pedalo out in the afternoon which was surprisingly tiring 😁 and today for the first time I feel a bit peckish a couple of hours before dinner.
But normally this would be my cue to smash about 5 biscuits, but I feel totally in control and instead I’m going to have some fruit instead.

Im not having that jittery low blood sugar feeling at all, which is what always drives me to the quick sugary snack.

Marble02031 · 01/10/2024 07:16

I am on day 11 today. I was a bit sick after my second jab but no other side effects. I lost 4lb last week. I have been eating 3 decent meals a day whether I am hungry or not. I workout a lot and average 20k steps a day so too low a calorie intake won't work for me.

I do feel hungry at mealtimes but what I have noticed is I don't want to eat as much. My calories are around 1400-1500.

I see so many people on tik tok eating 600-700 calories and losing so much weight. But for me I want to use this as a tool to eat normally. My problem was binge eating and I have no desire to sit in the evening and binge which is amazing as for the last 5 years most evenings I have eaten piles of junk often to the point I felt sick.

I am happy to lose 2lb a week at this point because I don't want to stay on this forever so I am hoping that by eating mindfully when I stop I won't want to binge.

KitsyWitsy · 01/10/2024 07:19

Day 4 and I’ve lost 4lbs so far…

I feel great. I’m not battling with my blood sugar anymore. No side effects other than slight nausea sometimes.

Obeseandashamed · 01/10/2024 07:37

Today is my second injection day, I weighed this morning and had gained 1lb but I also came on my period today too. I'm hoping it's just that. I am wondering whether I shouldn't weigh everyday as it might lead to disappointment with fluctuations. How often do you all weigh?

KitsyWitsy · 01/10/2024 07:41

I weigh everyday but I’m not fazed by slight gains. If you haven’t had the calories to gain weight then it will just be water and will come off.

That's good to know, perhaps I just need to get in to the right mindset and accept that there will be bumps in the road. I didn't have any crazy calories yesterday - around 1200 but that is more than what I've likely been having in the days prior to that. I also didn't get my steps in as my toddler was unwell and piking most of the day X

ShiftAMountain · 01/10/2024 07:45

I also weigh every day. But I have a rule which is that - as long as I am eating right - I can use my lowest weight that week as my official weight for the week. It smoothes out any fluctuations and helps me see the trend more easily.

OP posts:
Cocoaone · 01/10/2024 07:48

I weight most days. I find it helps to see it fluctuate, but see the overall trend. Whereas weighing weekly - if it just happens that I weigh on a day it's higher (more water, haven't been to the loo, peak period water weight etc) I'd be discouraged that the whole week has been pointless, but the next day it might be down again

Also - a few of the 'naturally' slim people I know weigh daily or at least a few times a week. They've never been fat, but keep a close eye on it and can easily reign the eating back for a few days if they notice an upward trend

Pashazade · 01/10/2024 07:56

So weighted this morning and that 4.8lbs for my first week. Inject this evening. Going blood doning today so will make myself eat a decent breakfast and lunch and ramp up the fluids.
I found the suppression lowest on Sunday but even so didn't buy much at the supermarket that didn't need to be bought. To the extent I was wondering what the hell I was going to cook this week! oops 🤣Yesterday was easier again. But it is so much easier to have a piece of chocolate and then put the rest away.

TricksyLiesmith · 01/10/2024 08:39

1 week in and I've lost 5lbs . Happy with that ! I've consciously changed what I'm eating as I want to see this and enabler for lifestyle change . I've stopped snacking , focused on protein and upped my exercise.

Not sure I will loose as much this week but that's fine . Slow and steady .

Injection after lunch today

TricksyLiesmith · 01/10/2024 09:04

@Pashazade congratulations on your loss !
That's so weird re Sunday . I was the same felt no suppression at all and made it through on will power . Still not sure what the best injection day is for me but will stick with Tuesday .
Having the suppression during the working week really helps me with snacking .

Orangesandlemons77 · 01/10/2024 09:46

I am going to try weighing on the injection day only, as weighing day to day can get fluctuations etc

Something embarrassing yesterday. the GP had referred me to respiratory due to breathlessness and hearing some crackles on my lungs. Consultant basically said he thinks it's my weight and my lungs are being 'squashed' as he put it. he wrote down about the mounjaro as I mentioned about taking it and I had lost a but so far, and will be writing to the GP.

I suppose, it may help with possibly getting a prescription for mounjaro, if that becomes available, and it is a bit of a relief not to have to have a CT scan (which the GP was on about) but overall I came away feeling a bit silly.

1 week in and haven’t really lost. Maybe a 1lb or so. Did 2nd jab yesterday and feel the familiar sense of being both hungry and nauseous at the same time…..

lespameo · 01/10/2024 12:05

@Sunbeamturtle same, I've lost a pound. Better than nothing I guess.

My first week- drank tons more water than normal. Usually drink Pepsi max like it's going out of fashion (at least a litre a day) but this week I've been having 1 or 2 glasses a day instead, so not perfect much better.

I've not been binging on crap food constantly but iv had occasional sugar cravings. Was really hoping I'd get the complete food noise removal like others talk about but not me!! I think I've been making smarter choices like higher protein/ fibre meals overall but i need to work on willpower more over the forthcoming weeks.

AussieMum135 · 01/10/2024 12:17

I did my first dose on Sunday and I am eating less but am a little hungry.... but trying to keep on top of food choices and daily calories....its too expensive for me to not give this my best shot.

Drinking my 2 litres of water but I've always found this easy to do. I have been having "Happy Water' which might be an option For those that struggle to drink enough. I mix up 2 litres of soda water (the fizz makes this drink nice and zingy), juice of one lemon and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Really good for digestion.

ShiftAMountain · 01/10/2024 12:47

Yep. I feel this too. I'm not spending all this money and injecting myself in the bathroom not to also give it everything I have in terms of food and exercise choice.

I'm sorry for those who haven't seen much loss. I guess the thing is to keep at it and remind yourself that the medicine isn't really mean to work until you get to 7.5mg+. This is just the prep stage to ease you into it. Each of us may find differing stages harder or easier.

holycow1 · 01/10/2024 12:50

@lespameo Hopefully once you've had some more injections and it starts to build up in your system, you'll properly feel the suppression and the 'food noise' will go. I guess as we're all built differently it just works more quickly for some than others. It's great that you're making smarter choices in the meantime - that's something I'm struggling with and need to organise myself better!

Cocoaone · 01/10/2024 13:11

I find it so interesting how it affects everyone so differently! Even at this low dose

After a more hungry day yesterday, I'm struggling to eat again today. Maybe it's because I had slow-ish digestion anyway - it's now at a snails pace! I love veggies and they are good for fibre - but they are bulky so taking up so much room in my tummy. Maybe I need to eat more blitzed veg soup with protein on the side...

I still feel the same amount as energy as usual, not tired, and my mood is really good I've noticed.
