Mounjaro - Late September Starters

ShiftAMountain · 19/09/2024 14:27

I see so many threads for people who all started about the same time as each other and think it must be good to have people at similar stages that you can share stories with and go through it all together.

There is a Sept thread but those guys have all started already.

Anyone due to start in the second half of Sept that would be interested in a thread?

I am just waiting delivery of my first pen today but don't plan to inject until Sunday evening. I WFH so cannot work out if having the 'worst' of any side effects ruining the weekend is better/worse than having to work through them on Mon/Tue. However, I have a couple of weekend social things coming up and decided it might be easier to do them when my previous injection is starting to wear off a bit - so Sunday nights it is!

Had a killer headache for the past two days. Trying to make sure I'm eating enough, drinking loads etc. Taken a couple of pain killers but wondering if they aren't absorbing into my system quick enough due to the Mounjaro?

TricksyLiesmith · 26/09/2024 15:38

@JustWalkingTheDogs I've started with a headache today. I'm
Drinking loads of water though . I bought some electrolytes as it was mentioned on another thread . Didn't think I would need them yet as only a couple of days in Hmm

peonym · 26/09/2024 16:23

Amazing @RandomID well done!!

Dee03 · 26/09/2024 16:27

Hi,
I'd like to join this thread if that's ok.
Ordered my starter pack half an hour ago and feel a bit nervous but yet excited to get started. I used The Family Chemist online and they said delivery will be 1-3 working days so I'm assuming Monday/tuesday will be more likely.

I'm 51 years old and I've a lot of weight to lose...but my journey starts very soon and I can't wait.

Theredjellybean · 26/09/2024 16:37

I've just had third injection of 2.5 mg
I've had great effect from first jab.
Was a day late for this one and noticed I was hungrier yesterday.
Now I'm feeling full and uninterested in food...and I've had half a protein yogurt.
SW 76.4 kg
TW 70.7
GW 67 kg.

I have had minimal side effects except my reflux pain is very bad and I wake in the night needing gaviscon.
I've continued gentle running as having a rest post marathon...going for longer run on Sunday and starting proper training again next week so might need to eat more...

AnybodyAnywhere · 26/09/2024 17:32

Just a first 24 hours update.
Slept 8 hours last night - I rarely manage more than 5.
Felt very lively and wanting to be busy today, lots of jobs got done 👍
Not much food noise and no urge to snack or go to shops and buy treats - which I have been doing daily …
Homemade Cabbage soup for lunch with a flatbread and a pear.
Chicken breast, Roasties (Aunt Bessie’s 😊) and veg for dinner shortly with apple and custard for dessert.
About 1000 cals for the day so must eat a bit more - aiming for 13 - 1400.
No side effects so far 🤞

I think a lot is probably psychological due to the feeling that I’m back in control after months of the food being in control of me. That’s not a bad thing!!
Interesting to see how the rest of the week pans out but at the moment it’s 👍 for MJ.

KitsyWitsy · 26/09/2024 17:45

Hey all. I ordered with Med Express today. Was approved within an hour but not dispatched yet.

excited!

Letitgoagain · 26/09/2024 18:01

Can I join in, too, please?
I started with a 2.5mg first dose on 19th September and had my second dose today.
Total weight to lose: 44 lb
First week lost: 7 lb
I do not have any side effects except some headache the first few days.
The appetite suppression has been brilliant, and I find it easy to ignore the brief hunger pangs I get. I am eating one or two meals a day. I definitely feel more energetic and am managing to get more done at work. I don't have the cranky mood I used to have before when trying to diet.
I know the rate of loss will slow down soon, but the first week results are very motivating.

ShiftAMountain · 26/09/2024 18:06

Welcome new people!

Some great first week results starting to come in now Smile

End of day 6 here and I still clearly have some supression going on but I can feel my old self creeping back. I drove past the Chinese restaurant earlier and just for a second had a sudden hankering for take away.

I am not taking my second dose until Sat eve (8 days) because I want to take next week's on Sunday (also 8 days) so that I am not at my highest dose over that weekend when I have a couple of social dinners out. Not so I can stuff myself but just because I am a tad concerned that a fresh dose of mounjaro and a Nepalese dinner might not be best bed fellows. After that I'll go back to Fridays.

On day two of week 1 on 1.25mg. Appetite suppression is definitely a thing. It's very odd.
Had stomach aches last night and didn't sleep brilliantly but hoping tonight will be better.

Bellyblueboy · 26/09/2024 18:15

I am now 24 hours after my first dose. I am not sure if it is having an impact or not!

I haven’t eaten much today - but I am very hungry now

WeightyWidow · 26/09/2024 18:20

Hello, mind if I join you? I've been reading the thread for a week or so and waiting until I had been plucked up the courage to inject! The pen was delivered on Saturday and has been in my fridge ever since. I finally injected for the first time at lunchtime. I'd convinced myself that something awful would happen at the first injection - but naturally all was well.

I'm 51, still in peri menopause and need to lose 3.5 stone. Sadly my husband died 3 years ago from cancer and I've become more sedentary, fatter and less alive myself ever since. I'm actutely aware I'm all my children have left now and owe it to them to be healthier.
Also, I'm quite vain and would love to look and feel betterGrin!

I've enjoyed reading all of your updates so far and look forward to joining in.

TheCatterall · 26/09/2024 18:55

welcome @WeightyWidow , similar boat with the 50, peri-menopause and 3.5 stone to lose.

Took my first jab at 7pm yesterday after worrying myself about all the things I could do wrong and been waiting for magical things to happen. ;)

Had a small lunch and trying to muster up the oomph to make a small stir fry or something now. But that’s normal for me - appetite disappeared last year with an illness but come late at night the snack monster appears…

hope your week goes well.

MonkeyPuddle · 26/09/2024 19:31

I’m off for my first of three night shifts, have packed up my food, sarnie, yoghurt and an apple. Need to make sure I get enough fluids in me which is something I struggle with at work.

Mydoghealsmyheart · 26/09/2024 19:32

Day 3 of second week on 2.5mg and not really having much suppression. Certainly have my appetite when it’s time for food and, strangely enough, I felt less inclined to eat during the first week than now! Although I have been aware today that I didn’t want the constipation getting worse so I’ve eaten more fibre in various foods and made sure I’m eating and drinking enough for it not to be a symptom I encounter.

RandomID · 26/09/2024 19:42

I’ve got a horrendous migraine brewing, but have realised it’s caffeine withdrawal. I’ve totally gone off coffee.

I’m going to ride it out and see how I feel.

Hope everyone has an excellent weekend.

Dollybantree · 26/09/2024 19:50

Hi all,

Im thinking of starting Mounjaro - I’ve just done my bmi which is 27 - do you think that il be approved?

Also where is generally regarded the best/most reasonable place to order from? It’s so expensive!

ShiftAMountain · 26/09/2024 19:52

I think you'll struggle to get it approved @Dollybantree - unless you have a qualifying additional health issue caused by weight:

"To be eligible for Mounjaro for weight loss, you must have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 or more (obese), or of at least 27 kg/m2 (overweight) and have a risk factor or a health condition that is affected by weight. "

Well it's done! Luckily I got in the shower straight after and noticed a rash on my tummy - definitely not from the jab as I did it in my thigh literally 10 seconds before, but I'm glad I spotted it now rather than in the morning, or I'd have a massive panic! DH has been ill so maybe I'm fighting off what he had and it's a viral rash

Enjoying the camaraderie of reading all your updates!

Obeseandashamed · 26/09/2024 20:14

Today was a weird day... I wasn't hungry aside from first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening. I had an omelette with a small portion of beans for breakfast and then the chicken pastry I was meant to have yesterday's for dinner. I didn't snack at all in between.

Ah, thanks. I might just apply and see what happens. I’m in the overweight category and am really struggling to lose two stone now I’m peri-menopausal - it’s so frustrating!

Cocoaone · 26/09/2024 21:41

@10storeylovesong I was wondering the same thing. I'm due to meet girlfriends for dinner this weekend and I have no idea if I'll be hungry; or what side effects might be if I eat too much or the wrong type of foods.

Bellybusting · 26/09/2024 22:01

Update at the end of my first week, lost 4lb in total, really pleased with this.

I had made some minor adjustments to diet, but think it was mainly through the reduced desire for naughty snacks and alcohol.

I was away for work 1 night with a fancy meal out and really struggled to finish it all, which was really unlike me. No desire for the Costa cakes and free cookies that often come with these events.

i haven’t had any major side effects, I did have a funny taste in my mouth for the first few days, and some GI issues (started eating a few prunes which helped!).

Injection number 2 done and onto the 2nd week.

Snapespeare · 26/09/2024 22:03

I just bought two pairs of trousers and a t shirt in the toast sale in a size down as further motivation (rationale, I cleared out three bin bags of worn out saggy size 20 clothes from my wardrobe)

I realise this post is peak-mumsnet - Mounjaro AND Toast.
