Mounjaro - Late September Starters

ShiftAMountain · 19/09/2024 14:27

I see so many threads for people who all started about the same time as each other and think it must be good to have people at similar stages that you can share stories with and go through it all together.

There is a Sept thread but those guys have all started already.

Anyone due to start in the second half of Sept that would be interested in a thread?

I am just waiting delivery of my first pen today but don't plan to inject until Sunday evening. I WFH so cannot work out if having the 'worst' of any side effects ruining the weekend is better/worse than having to work through them on Mon/Tue. However, I have a couple of weekend social things coming up and decided it might be easier to do them when my previous injection is starting to wear off a bit - so Sunday nights it is!

That sounds really rough @Mumoftwo36, hopefully it’ll settle, I suppose that’s the point of this subtherapeutic dose 🤞

Ive had an insanely stressful day at work today (hospital, 12 hour day), but still all of eaten before getting home was a tuna sweetcorn sandwich, three biscuits and two weetabix with milk. Got home and DP had made the most delicious leek and potato soup and I’ve really really enjoyed that for tea, would have had a second bowl if I didn’t know it would likely make me feel ill

Obeseandashamed · 25/09/2024 20:49

Appetite suppression has been high today. I am sat here really struggling to eat. All I have managed today is a cup of coffee with a 90 calorie biscuit as we had run out of bread and my plan was coffee and toast. For dinner I had planned to have home made chicken pastries but I've only managed 2 bites 😫 I need a plan for tomorrow which includes more nutrition.

SW this morning was 13st 4lbs.
IGW - 10st 7lbs
GW - 9st

Evening All. Just taken my Mounjaro (from MedExpress) today after collecting it from the post office like an excited child! Was worried about the needle (did it in thigh) but didn’t feel a thing.

I’m a newly minted menopausal 50 year old from up north.

5’11” and 19st.
Size 20 bottoms / 18 top and BMI - 37 -

6/7 years ago was 16st and a 16/14.

No real goal weight but have 15st 7lb in mind but will see how I feel as I hit 16st mark.

fed up off comments expressing surprise - ohh you don’t look it… you carry it so well.. etc. I know people mean well and my height etc helps. But whilst I’ve always been curvy this just feels gross and I disgust myself.

I have an immune system disorder so get run down easy, get shingles all the time if stressed, tired, ill or having the occasional period. I can get shingles case on top of shingles case and it’s often accompanied by spinal and facial neuralgia.

I was taking some heavy hitting medication for 2 years which helped pile on weight. And comfort ate biscuits, sweets etc.

Trying this for a short term boost/kick start to help with some other habits I’ve picked up - swimming weekly, gym and strength training twice a week, and more meal prep and healthy options and snacks around.

I’d like to give this 3 months and see how I feel with where I am habit wise and weight wise at that point.

thank you for starting this thread @ShiftAMountain - it’s nice to know we are not alone.

TheCatterall · 25/09/2024 21:07

@Mumoftwo36 hope you feel better overnight and side effects disappear soon.

where did you inject yourself? I’ve heard mixed reports about stomach site leading to more nausea etc so went with my thigh. Figured if I get side effects I’ll try a different site next time.

food wise - I’m cutting down on the milk (and dairy) for the next few days as that can make me feel nauseous on some meds.

salmon sounds lovely but I feel the need to play it safe with fruit and veg and alll the plain stuff for my first week. ;)

id try a different area next time and hopefully that will help?

peonym · 25/09/2024 21:30

Thanks @RandomID it went well! I did just go home and eat some curry chips though...

@Mumoftwo36 that sounds rotten I hope your side effects ease soon!

@TheCatterall interesting about spot of injection potentially being linked to nausea

RandomID · 25/09/2024 22:07

I had spicy bacon pasta for dinner, and ate about a third of what I’d usually eat; evidenced by the two portions sat in the fridge awaiting lunch tomorrow and dinner on Friday.

I pondered a couple of hobnobs to take my evening meds with, but actually cannot face it. Hopefully the nsaids won’t dissolve my stomach this evening.

I'm starting this week, currently 5ft 3 and 12st 6. I have pcos and have struggled for the last 5 years to lose any weight so hoping this will be the kick-start I need 🙏

Hi Mouse, I'm the same height and starting weight as you, and also have pcos. We're Mounjaro twins! I started last Friday, and no side effects so far. What I'm noticing is just a feeling of "meh" about food. Very liberating! Hope you're doing ok.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 25/09/2024 23:07

Thank you @chickenpieandchips @Darkflames @Pashazade for the reassurance - injection 1 is done and I didn’t feel a thing 😅🥳. Let’s do this! 💪🏼

Mumoftwo36 · 26/09/2024 03:58

4 am update from me. I've been up all night again with D&V. It's gotten even worse. So I think this is the end of my journey. I think maybe I am just one of those people who is not compatible with this drug. I just want to somehow take it out of me but I just have to ride it out. Can't wait to feel normal again. Even the thought of food makes me sick. I've lost 6 pounds in less than 3 days which is too much but not a surprise given the situation. I'm feeling even more motivated than ever to loose weight but will just have to go about it the 'normal way'. Wishing you all the best of luck and I'll check in to see how you get on.

Cocoaone · 26/09/2024 05:55

Sorry to hear you've been suffering again @Mumoftwo36 - I don't blame you at all. I think the amounts of the drug in your system are half by day 5 so hopefully you'll start to see an improvement in how you feel very soon

SquatBetty · 26/09/2024 06:23

Hello, can I join in?

I ordered Mounjaro from Medexpress last night and have submitted my id and full length photo. Reading the previous comments sounds like they've had an influx of orders so I'm guessing mine (if approved) might take longer to send out.

I'm 5'2" and just over 16 stone. I put on a stone and a half very quickly over the past year which I suspect is menopause related as I'm 51. Am absolutely fed up with painful knees, panting even after a short burst of walking and none of my clothes fitting. I feel so unhealthy and just old.

My intention is to give it a go for a couple of months and see how I get on and hopefully the weight loss will encourage more exercise and much better food choices in the long term.

lespameo · 26/09/2024 07:08

Hello! Would love to join if that's ok? I took my first 2.5 dose on Tuesday morning and I've just weighed myself and I've put ON 1.5lbs in 48hours... so great start for me!
Had some side effects like headaches, nausea and achy shoulders but haven't had any suppression. Tried to drink loads more water than normal, and I've snacked a lot less but how have I put weight on? Gutted. Really hope I feel something different soon.
Good luck to you all on your journeys!

beckaellen · 26/09/2024 07:14

Hi, I injected my first dose on Tues 24th in the evening. So would like to follow this thread and might chip in sometimes. I've read all the posts up-to-date and found them encouraging. @Mumoftwo36 Sorry you've had such a rough time.
I'm 42, single mum to 18 year old. DD is diagnosed with autism and I've self-diagnosed with it. I'm only just in the Obese range so I'm trying to lose about 3 stones. But I've always been obese since age 10 and weighed 19 stones at my highest. I'm prediabetic and have the beginnings of a heart arrhythmia, have also had joint pain and back ache and depression, so I'm very highly motivated to get to a healthy weight. My weight yo-yos a lot because I am a food addict and binge eat. I start diets often but fall off the wagon often too! Almost two years ago I discovered the whole plant foods diet and have been trying to practice that with mixed success. It's a high fibre, very low fat diet with fruit, veg, wholegrains and beans/lentils. It has a similar physical effect as Mounjaro, including some of the gastro side effects when you're new to it! I've adjusted to WPF now and intend to stick to it permanently but if something triggers a bad eating day it self perpetuates, eating junk triggers binging and I get stuck for weeks or months in an unhealthy cycle. I'm hoping the whole plant foods and Mounjaro will work together well.
I'm very worried about negative side effects on Mounjaro. I don't have easy access to a toilet at work (grocery delivery)! But except for extreme tiredness yesterday, nothing much to report.
Sorry if my post was too long, I'm more of a lurker usually.
Cheering on all you wonderful women while we take this journey together.

I had my second 2.5mg dose on Tuesday and have had very little appetite suppression unfortunately but it’s causing real constipation. I’m trying to include a lot of fibre and drinking lots of water and yet am still struggling with any bowel movements. I’m going to go to the chemist this morning and buy something to help. I’m thinking it’s probably best to take something regularly whilst on the Mounjaro rather than just as and when. Can anyone suggest what’s most effective? I've also been up since 4am stressed over family problems and have eaten lots for no reson other than seeking comfort (crisps, chocolate, bowl of cereal) and now feel today is ruined before it’s even begun. I had hoped that the Mounjaro would stop me wanting to binge and allow me the headspace to work on managing my emotions without turning to food. Sadly this doesn’t seem the case. I’m hoping the higher dose will prove more effective but does the side effects such as constipation get worse the higher the dose?

ShiftAMountain · 26/09/2024 07:45

@Mumoftwo36 - we're sorry to lose you but you do sound like you've had a very rough few days so it's understandable that you've decided MJ is not for you. All the best without it and, yes, do stop in to see how we're doing but also to let us know how you're getting on.

@Mydoghealsmyheart your day is not ruined and these are just the first few steps on a loooong journey to health. I bet if you read through the 21 threads from the original mn pioneers that is on here, you'd find examples of them 'falling off the wagon' so don't beat yourself up. Family problems are stressful and I know what that 4am worry session is like.

I don't know what's most effective but I have read in multiple places that people take psyllium husk daily to help with constipation. I've also read that side effects come and go and don't necessarily just increase with the dosage.

@10storeylovesong - 8lbs is an excellent first loss! Wow!

I've been keeping a sneaky eye on the scales and have lost about 5lbs in about a week and a bit - since I weighed myself for my mounjaro order at the start of last week.

Cocoaone · 26/09/2024 08:35

I'm taking my first dose tonight - having a wobble about side effects!

But, there was a HUGE rainbow which followed me for half of the journey to work this morning, so I'm taking that as a positive sign of hope.

I weighed this morning - 14st 0.5lbs, BMI 31.6 or 32 depending on whether I look at nutracheck or my weighing scales app. I also finger pricked for my glucose which I keep an eye on periodically as the meds I'm on and family history mean I'm more at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. That's was 5.8. Interested to see if it goes down between now and Christmas.

Does anyone have any tips on whether eating before or after the jab helps with nausea etc?

Pashazade · 26/09/2024 08:38

I did my first jab late on Tuesday so didn't eat anything, had stomach aches/cramps on and off last night (so night 2) but otherwise have generally felt fine. Any vague nausea didn't turn up until the morning and then it was very mild.

beckaellen · 26/09/2024 09:04

@Mydoghealsmyheart Sorry your struggling. Maybe suppression won't kick in till a stronger dose. I really struggle with food addiction and overeating/binging, I literally can't have that food in the house or I will definitely eat it and keep eating it continuously until it's gone. There isn't any food in my house now which I could binge on except instant noodles and cheese which are both my daughter's foods and I've already asked her to keep the noodles in her bedroom! With the cheese I was thinking in future, I'll buy a really small piece and that hopefully, might deter me enough. I try to plan my meals in advance and do meal prep so there is something ready to eat. And I even do a reward chart to try and keep on the straight and narrow. Do you know what you'll eat for dinner today?
Don't get discouraged, look forward to 5mg!

peonym · 26/09/2024 09:11

@Cocoaone I did my first jab yesterday at 1pm after a decent sized lunch. I didn't feel any effects at all yesterday, and still fine this morning (to the extent I'm questioning whether I even have any suppression yet!)

Try not to let it get you down, it may just be hormonal or even down to toilet habits. Xx

I'm so sorry to read of your struggles. You've had it really hard and have a lot on your plate. 😔 I hope you are able to continue the weight loss journey you've started and can find a different way that works for you. Xx
