Mounjaro - Late September Starters

I see so many threads for people who all started about the same time as each other and think it must be good to have people at similar stages that you can share stories with and go through it all together.

There is a Sept thread but those guys have all started already.

Anyone due to start in the second half of Sept that would be interested in a thread?

I am just waiting delivery of my first pen today but don't plan to inject until Sunday evening. I WFH so cannot work out if having the 'worst' of any side effects ruining the weekend is better/worse than having to work through them on Mon/Tue. However, I have a couple of weekend social things coming up and decided it might be easier to do them when my previous injection is starting to wear off a bit - so Sunday nights it is!

@FelicityBeedle some people weigh weekly, some daily. I weighed daily for a few days but I get so obsessive over it that I’ve decided to weigh monthly when I need to re-order. I know it’s working because I’m eating less so have decided to just trust the process.
If you weight regularly something like happy scale is a good app as it shows trends.

Orangesandlemons77 · 25/09/2024 11:57

the tummy problems yesterday seem to have gone here thankfully after taking the second dose, have not been hungry today but just had some of the new Fage, fruits yoghurt for a bit of protein and a small banana, weight now 97.5 down from 100kg which is good. have a good day everyone

I'm particularly interested to see how AnybodyAnywhere gets on. I am also 69 (70 next April), also going on a cruise in December and would not tell my DH what I'm doing as he would just be so negative about the injections and cost. My daughter has been doing Mounjaro for about 2/3 months now and lost 1 stone in the first 6 weeks. I'm hesitant about starting before the cruise as it's so expensive (the cruise) and I don't want to be unable to eat a normal portion. I don't normally go mad on cruises, and try and eat healthily and the portions are quite small. Just wondering if it would be possible to order the pens at the end of November but not start until after Christmas. Would it keep that long if unopened. I can imagine the various companies will be overwhelmed in January.

JustWalkingTheDogs · 25/09/2024 12:54

Evenings I'm struggling with. I have a protein smoothie for breakfast, salad and protein for lunch and a healthy tea, all be it a smaller portion, but by about 8pm I've got that horrid sticky feeling you get when you're hungry, but my body is telling me it doesn't want to eat - it's very strange

Snapespeare · 25/09/2024 13:10

Thank you fybrogel - and a breakfast banana. :-)

peonym · 25/09/2024 13:19

Just took my first dose... yay.

I had gestational diabetes in my second pregnancy on insulin so I'm well used to these pens unfortunately.

I've a dance class later today, would anyone recommend not going in case I feel ill? Or just play by ear?

ShiftAMountain · 25/09/2024 13:30

I'd like to be the first to congratulate @Snapespeare on the successful delivery of their firstborn

@peonym I'd play it by ear. Everyone's different by I would have been fine to do a class a few hours after my first dose, I think.

Honestly, the relief. I've been drinking loads of water, but fibre is the issue, I don't like the thought of bread, I need to add beans or potatoes or some such.
I'm autistic and will stick to certain food types - I need to meal plan better...

ShiftAMountain · 25/09/2024 13:56

I've seen some suggest psyllium husk supplements as a way to ensure regular fibre?

OP posts:
Orangesandlemons77 · 25/09/2024 14:14

Glucomannan is good for fibre, I think, and diets, you can get it on amazon. It's the same stuff in the konjac noodles I believe.

Orangesandlemons77 · 25/09/2024 14:15

For some reason all I feel like eating is really bland stuff like porridge. So think I'll have that for dinner. I guess that might be good for fibre too.

Cocoaone · 25/09/2024 17:11

@MonkeyPuddle thank you for the link re: side effects. Really interesting read but it's so frustrating that all of the info is so contra-indicatory - I.e. only eat when you're hungry, but make sure you eat little and often!

TricksyLiesmith · 25/09/2024 17:20

I'm over 30 hours since 1st injection and so far only very light side effects. Light nausea but nothing too often or enough to stop me carrying on working.
My appetite is definitely suppressed . I am making an effort to eat though if only lightly and more protein based .

I bought some Psyllium husk tablets from Holland and Barrett at lunch to hopefully combat constipation

I can't put my finger on how I feel ? I don't feel different just not thinking about food ? It's so odd !

chickenpieandchips · 25/09/2024 17:25

Hello! First week and 4lbs down.
Only side effect is a metallic taste in mouth. Same as pregnancy. However I used biscuits to get rid of it then. Any ideas for now??

I’ll be sure to let you know @Cabinfever20 😊

First dose went in my thigh this afternoon …

PPs, and the instructions that came with my jab, said that once you’ve taken it out of the chiller pack that it arrived in you can keep it unrefigerated (but below 30°) for 21 days - so just enough to get all your jabs in so I’m not sure if your plan would work. I’m still deciding whether to take a couple of weeks off for the cruise, I’ll see how I go.

My husband, like yours, would definitely not approve!

Darkflames · 25/09/2024 18:07

I usually really crave sugar before my period and feel very tearful too. Either the HRT I started 6 months ago has kicked in or the Mounjaro has helped to stabilise my hormones as I didn’t get any usual symptoms before my period started today.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 25/09/2024 18:27

Well mine arrived a couple of days ago but I’d planned on starting it tonight when the kids are at their dad’s. I need peace and quiet to follow all the instructions-I’m feeling a little apprehensive about the injecting so I’m taking heart from everyone who says it’s absolutely fine 🤞🏼.

Pashazade · 25/09/2024 18:34

The injection was so little @ChittyChittyBoomBoom I was surprised and relieved it's a very slender needle. Just slowly follow the instructions in the pack and you'll be fine.

Darkflames · 25/09/2024 19:01

@ChittyChittyBoomBoom I had to touch to skin after to make sure it wasn’t wet as I didn’t feel it go in.

peonym · 25/09/2024 19:09

6 hours in and I don't want to eat anything. Joyous. Heading out for my gym class shortly - feeling lighter already 🤣

rhazhu14 · 25/09/2024 19:14

Hello! I’m joining as I took the plunge and ordered Mounjaro today. I’ve not been happy with my weight for years to be honest; after a serious injury I just haven’t fully got it under control and although I’ve lost weight in that period I’ve veered between 12 stone and 17 stone (😱)

I am currently 13 stone 7, so although a lot smaller than at my biggest still quite significantly overweight and it gets me down. So I want to address it now. The cost put me off but I’d spend a lot more on £200 a month just on takeaways, snacks and so on.

So here I am - welcome any tips. I’m hoping to hear back from Boots tomorrow.

chickenpieandchips · 25/09/2024 19:59

@ChittyChittyBoomBoom last week I got DH to do it and was so underwhelmed I actually braved it myself this week. And my bruise is much smaller than his so must have done a good job!

Mumoftwo36 · 25/09/2024 20:00

Day two for me and I've really struggled to eat anything. Haven't been sick since this morning. But still have diarrhoea, really bad sulphur burps and a v delicate tummy. Feeling pretty sorry for myself and still in two minds about whether to carry on. I feel bad for not even being able to force down my heathy dinner although i was able to eat some plain toast at lunch. Is anyone else having the same issues? Or had these issues and it got much better...?

I really hope tomorrow is a better day. It's a non working day for me and I have my 14 month old but not my oldest so was hoping to go on a nice big pram walk. Not sure I'm going to be up to it. I'm not sure all this is worth it.

I went swimming a couple of hours after my first one, and didn’t feel bad for it.

Hope the dance class goes well.
