Starting saxenda

secretgirl · 10/09/2024 16:44

Hi all.

I've just stared saxenda this morning. 0.6 for the first week.
I'm juat a little nervous as I'm an anxious person. I have at least 4 stone to lose

Has anyone any tips?
Can anyone let me how much exercise they did to see results and how much I should be watching my food?
Am I OK to drink alcohol on it? I never asked the doctor.

Thanks in advance.

I was on Saxenda before moving to Mounjaro. I moved as supplies were hard to find.
I had good results, lost a few stone.
No issues with alcohol. Took a few weeks to kick in but worked well. Good luck x

secretgirl · 12/09/2024 13:56

Thanks so much for the reply.
I'm on day 3 now. Feeling nauseous here and therr but also feeling full after eating for quite a while. Thought it would take longer to feel effects.

I was on Saxenda for 6 months and switched to Wegovy in June as it was hard to find supplies, but I loved it!

I moved up in half increments as I was worried about side effects, and never went over 1.8, as that just worked for me. Weight loss was slow but steady (which I preferred to a quick loss).

I much prefer the daily injections to the weekly, as I felt I had more control over what I was putting into my body (no idea if that is true, but that's just how I felt).

Good luck!

secretgirl · 14/09/2024 19:14

Thank you.
Day 5 today and while I'm definitely not feeling as hungry, I have put on 2lbs this week! Can't believe it.

How long did it take anyone to see results?

hi @secretgirl - how are you getting on with Saxenda? I have just been prescribed it, and hope to pick it up over the next few days and start next week. I can't find many active threads on it anymore, so I was glad to find yours 😊

secretgirl · 21/09/2024 09:39

Hey @85isalive .
Aĺl is good with it. I went onto the 1.2 dose on tuesday. Definitely needed to as I was starting to feel hungry on the 0.6.
I've lost a couple of lbs. Nothing major yet.
I Definitely had headaches in the 1st week that have subsided and felt nauseous a few times but nothing too bad.
I inject in the mornings after breakfast and my hunger in the evenings is nothing like it used to be.
I'm hoping to start a bit of exercise this week.
Let me.know how you are doing 👏

OP posts:
85isalive · 22/09/2024 23:25

Thanks for the update! I am picking it up tomorrow, so I will probably start on Tues or Wed. I was wondering about morning vs evening injections, thinking that the evening would allow me to sleep it off, but haven't read anything to suggest that's a good idea or not. Have you found any good online accounts from current users? How are you finding it food-wise?

85isalive · 25/09/2024 14:28

Took my 2nd shot this morning.
Yesterday I felt a bit achey, like a mild hangover. My head wasn't sore enough to need a painkiller, but it was that kind of fuzzy/too much wine feeling. I was really tired going to bed.

Today I feel a bit like I have a cold coming on - tiredness and heavy eyes - and felt a bit sick earlier but nothing major.

Haven't eaten much on either day - it must be too soon for this to be a real suppression, but I've not been very bothered to eat.

Aiming to try to stick to breakfast, lunch and dinner, cut out booze and snacking, and hit around 1300 cals a day.

secretgirl · 26/09/2024 19:11

Yes I know the feeling @85isalive .
It's a groggy pain but not enough to take painkillers. I had bouts of nausea too hur nothing too bad.

I started 1.8 on Tuesday and find a difference. I've no appetite really though i am eating. I went to dinner last night and barely ate a few forkfuĺls. I'm wondering if in the future I am going out for a meal if I could skip that days dose and enjoy a meal? I don't know.

I haven't been able to find any accounts unfortunately. I was hoping to and not much benefit herr with regard to saxenda.

By the way, I saw your other thread and I am from Dublin too 👍😀.

What's your starting weight and waht are you hoping to lose?

I started at 14stone 8lbs. BMI 35.
AT 5'2 I looked / look awful.

85isalive · 27/09/2024 07:32

I think most posters in UK swapped to Mounjaro when Saxenda supplies were hard to come by, so maybe it's just me and you left 😂

I started at 15st9. My first plan is to get back down to around 12 stone which was the lowest I have been in the last 10 years. Then, we will see! I am 5ft 5in, so lugging it around with me.

That's a good question about skipping a dose, if that worked it would be nice to have the occasional "day off". I don't want to miss out on going out for a planned meal. I wonder would you see the difference in suppression that quickly? I would have thought it builds up in your system.

I am finding the starter dose OK to deal with. I am tired, and just a bit off form, but fine. Felt a bit nauseous after my lunch yesterday but I had some mints and that seemed to settle things. I feel hungry at times (more peckish than hunger) but content after a small portion of whatever.

Let's see how my first weekend goes!

I am in Rathfarnham. Had big plans to get out walking, but the rain for the last few days has put me off!

85isalive · 28/09/2024 09:01

My stomach was a bit iffy yesterday. My lunch went through me. It was just a soup so don't think I ate too much. I was knackered in the afternoon too.

then last night was the first time I felt properly hungry. Had a bigger dinner and I slept well.

I haven't been too aware of what I am eating, just picking at things, so I probably should try to eat slightly more at meals to keep everything ticking along.

bigdecisionaboutwork · 28/09/2024 09:13

Hi can I join?! I ordered it on Mon evening and it arrived Wed at 8am (was quite impressed!), so have just done jab 4. I think I'm feeling suppression of appetite (with teeny headache and nausea, not worth taking anything for though) and have had no probs sticking to 1200 cals. I've been overweight since early 30s so 20 years of struggling, started at 15 stone 4 lbs and 5 foot 2, BMI 37. I've actually switched my scales to kg for this as weirdly it feels less judgemental and I seem to have lost 1.4kg since Wed! I'm in Wicklow, don't think you can get Mounjaro here in Ireland, @justsaxy for some reason I prefer daily injections too!

85isalive · 28/09/2024 09:35

Hi @bigdecisionaboutwork
Your side effects sound exactly like mine. Just a kind of bleughness in the background, which if I wasn't looking out for it, I might not even notice.

I am looking forward to moving up a dose on Tuesday, but I am a bit nervy about it - I just want to be able to eat less without it playing on my mind all the time, but I don't want to be totally off my food. So I am hoping to get to that sweet spot, and not go too far into suppression

85isalive · 28/09/2024 09:37

I am using the weight from the scales in Boots as my starting point, so hard to compare against my house scales, but I will weigh at home on Tues and use that weekly. Might go back to Boots after a month and see how it compares over a longer period

secretgirl · 28/09/2024 19:12

Tuesdays are my change day too. It will be 3 weeks on Tuesday since I started and so far I'm down 9lbs. I'm so thrilled. I can feel it in my jeans already.

the 1st week was definitely hardest with regard to headaches and nausea for me. When I started the 1.8 on Tuesday I felt it a bit again but not as bad.

Welcome @bigdecisionaboutwork . Well done o that weight loss 😀

OP posts:
85isalive · 29/09/2024 08:50

I have been hungrier the last 2 days so I am looking forward to moving up to 1.2 on Tues.

bigdecisionaboutwork · 29/09/2024 09:05

I was out for dinner last night and had a Caesar salad - I usually plan to order that and then cave and go for burger and chips. Didn't overeat or hit the choc when I got home, which is a definite change. I'm using My Fitness Pal to track calories, is anyone using a different app?

85isalive · 29/09/2024 10:00

I hope you had a lovely evening @bigdecisionaboutwork

We don't eat out too often but we have a bad habit of picking up a takeaway a couple times a week. It's just me and DH, and we can be lazy about meal planning. It's one of the things I need to get on top of.

I use pen and paper for counting cals and add a note in my phone. I use apps on and off but I actually prefer working things out manually. I use a lot of the same foods all the time so have a list of things I use regularly.

StrikesAtticFlat · 29/09/2024 10:16

Happy to see this thread - can't get Mounjaro where I live so I started Saxenda 4 weeks ago.

Definitely less appetite and no urge to eat at night anymore BUT I've only lost 2 kilos, which happened quite quickly and then it stalled.

I think I'm going to change from evening injections to morning as I am still feeling more peckish around 5pm, I guess when the dose in my body is at its lowest??

Was 93.5kg at the start, yesterday weighed 90.6. Still not enough to actually see any difference but I also need to do exercise of course...

secretgirl · 29/09/2024 19:04

@85isalive Id rather wite my calories with pen and paper too. The phone apps are such a faff for me.
Where do you find the calories in things?

Welcome @StrikesAtticFlat . Thàys very disheartening alright but 2 kilos is a lot. Stick with it 💪

OP posts:
85isalive · 29/09/2024 19:48

@secretgirl if I am cooking from scratch, I tend to use the same veg a lot so I know the cals for e.g. onions, peppers, brocoli etc. I googled them, made sure I got the amounts for 100cal of raw item. So if e.g 100g of red onion is 35 cal, I weigh what I use and multiply it out. I have a calculator and scales on the worktop.

For anything else, I use the cals from the package, and make sure I weigh out the amount I use.

Hi @StrikesAtticFlat - its great to have a few people to chat to on here. maybe switching to a morning injection will give you more of an impact. Are you counting cals too?

secretgirl · 30/09/2024 08:55

Thanks @85isalive .

I always inject in the morning about 8.30 after brekkie. I find I'm not snacking for the day then.
I was however picky and hungry yesterday so I think I need to up it to the 2.4 tomorrow

OP posts:
85isalive · 30/09/2024 09:03

I don't eat first thing, so I have my coffee and take my injection before I head off to work around 8.30. I bring breakfast with me, but I don't always want it - I've been like that for years though, that's not from the Saxenda.

I was definitely hungry yesterday, ended up around 1400 cals. I think it's partly because I was in the house all day - at work the day flies by and I don't notice the hunger. But even after dinner I was still peckish so ended up having an apple before bed.

The shite weather doesn't help. I went out for a walk before it started raining too much, but the rest of the day was spent pottering around the house.

StrikesAtticFlat · 30/09/2024 11:26

I haven't been counting calories 😳 so I freely admit I haven't been putting full effort in. I know Saxenda is an aid, not a miracle...
I am getting waves of quite bad nausea still, although I'm not actually being sick. I've been on the full dose for five days now so maybe it'll take time to get over the latest side effects...

85isalive · 30/09/2024 12:09

Maybe track your calories for a week to see if that makes a difference? I am aiming for around 1300. A few days I hovered around 1000, but yesterday I was closer to 1400.

I've felt a bit sick a few times, and find eating something like corn cakes with a bit of peanut butter settles my stomach, if I can't face a bigger meal. I figure that at least the PB is getting some protein into me!
