Starting saxenda

secretgirl · 10/09/2024 16:44

Hi all.

I've just stared saxenda this morning. 0.6 for the first week.
I'm juat a little nervous as I'm an anxious person. I have at least 4 stone to lose

Has anyone any tips?
Can anyone let me how much exercise they did to see results and how much I should be watching my food?
Am I OK to drink alcohol on it? I never asked the doctor.

Thanks in advance.

I weighed this morning and I am 12.5 lbs down in 3 weeks. I am so happy with the results, especially as last week i stalled. Apart from tiredness, which can be pretty bad from around 3pm onwards, I feel fine on 1.8

@bigdecisionaboutwork have you gone up to 3 yet? I am due to go up on Friday.

@secretgirl has your tummy settled down or did you drop back down to 1.8

bigdecisionaboutwork · 16/10/2024 11:51

@85isalive that's a brilliant loss - 4lbs a week! I'm due to go up to 2.4 tomorrow but I have a funny feeling I didn't do 1.8 all week so far - I think I did some 1.2s by mistake, jabbing first thing while not fully awake.. so thinking of staying on 1.8. It seems to be keeping the appetite suppression at the right level and will stretch out the pens longer.

85isalive · 16/10/2024 11:53

@bigdecisionaboutwork I forgot that I should go to 2.4 next!
1.8 is working well, and I don't want to be too supressed - if I could keep on a lower dose, it might be worth it for the longer term?

bigdecisionaboutwork · 16/10/2024 14:56

😂😂😂you might get a bit of a fright if you went straight up to 3!!! After all my talk about feeling good on 1.8 I've just inhaled 3 Jaffa cakes and 2 of those 40g bars of Lidl chocolate. Mind you that's about a third of what id normally have for a treat.

85isalive · 16/10/2024 17:04

I'd probably conk out if I went straight to 3!😂

Hope you enjoyed your treat!

85isalive · 18/10/2024 08:25

Started 2.4 today, fingers crossed I don't fall asleep at my desk!

Hope you are all getting on OK

85isalive · 20/10/2024 09:44

Day 3 of 2.4 and has coincided with my period starting, so I am pretty wiped out, but feel OK generally.

I had some Chinese last night, so the suppression isn't too strong, but I couldn't eat the full meal. One glass of wine, I couldn't finish it.

If anything, socialising is getting much cheaper 😂

bigdecisionaboutwork · 21/10/2024 16:05

My bin is taking ages to fill up! (Live on my own so the reduction in food packaging is very noticeable). I'm buying a lot of berries though so the food bill isn't as small as it could be

85isalive · 22/10/2024 07:39

Berries are pricey, but at least they are good for you.

I was knackered yesterday, but it's hard to know if it Saxenda or a general lethargy at this time of year.

NSV- I wore a dress yesterday that I couldn't get over my boobs 3 weeks ago, and now it is quite roomy.

Weigh in day tomorrow!

85isalive · 22/10/2024 13:37

The suppression is strong today - struggling to eat a tub of Lidl soup, which I have most days.

It's a balance, isn't it? I need to get something into me (this is my first food today) because by 3-4 I will be really tired, so obviously I need something to give me some energy.
On the other hand, I might sicken myself.

It honestly feels like I've eaten a full 3 course meal. I feel stuffed.

85isalive · 23/10/2024 07:55

Down a pound, so just under a stone in 4 weeks. I would love to keep up a rate of about 10lbs a month. My suppression lifted in the evening so I was able to eat my dinner.

How are the rest of you getting on?

bigdecisionaboutwork · 24/10/2024 12:34

Wow 10 lb a month is ideal! I'm on 2.4 at the moment but the suppression isn't great, hope the 3 is better. But I just did a bit of research and I think that the cost of the meds qualifies for tax relief here in Ireland - can anyone confirm? If I'm right that's 20% refund in Jan... :-)

85isalive · 24/10/2024 14:25

Well who knows if my 10lbs plan works, but we'll see how the next 4 weeks go!
I am on 2.4 and feel suppression in the morning (I take it before I leave for work).

Then by lunchtime I am kind of forcing food into me and I can feel a bit queasy after that, but obviously I need to eat something.

In the evening I am eating a smaller dinner, but suppression has lifted quite a bit by then and I feel hungrier.

Claiming back some of the costs would be great - like we're saving up for a (non-food!) treat

85isalive · 29/10/2024 09:53

@bigdecisionaboutwork - have you moved up to 3? I moved up on Sat and feel ok, but a bit under the weather. Made the mistake of having a small oat latte in Costa yesterday, and thought I was going to throw it up again about 10 mins later. I am tired today, but that is also because of the clocks changing. Generally speaking it's hard to tell if I feel a bit blah because of Saxenda, dark evenings, being 44 or just feeling sorry for myself 😂

How is everyone else getting on?

Weigh in day tomorrow for me, hoping for a couple of pounds, as last week was only 1lb.

bigdecisionaboutwork · 29/10/2024 18:53

@85isalive hope good news on the scales tomorrow! I'm still on 2.4 - seems to be working ok, so I'm going to stay on it as long as I can. Then at least I will have an increase if the suppression wears off. Finished my last pen this morning and next ones are arriving tomorrow. I still have over 1,000 calories to eat today so am going to have a nice dinner - chicken burger and sweet potato fries. Mmmm😄

85isalive · 30/10/2024 07:32

Your dinner sounds lovely! I am making more of an effort to get veggies in, so had a veg curry.

I am going back to 2.4 today. The 3 was fine at home over the weekend, but I really felt it at work yesterday, and it impacted my concentration. I felt off about an hour after I posted above.

Anyway, 3lbs off, 16.5 in 5 weeks. I am really pleased.

85isalive · 04/11/2024 09:09

I've had a weird weekend. I binge ate a lot on Saturday, with no suppression. I had no food noise, but decided (consciously or not) I wanted to really over eat. I didn't feel full or ill or anything.

I think I know what triggered it - I was disappointed by something, so instead of sitting with that feeling, I ate it.

I need to work on that part of my thinking and coping, otherwise I'll come off Saxenda and pile everything back on.

How is everyone else getting on?

secretgirl · 13/11/2024 18:54

Hi all.
I have stayed on the 2.4 and still have food suppression. Lost 1 stone after about 4 weeks and haven't lost anymore.
I'm very disappointed so I'm thinking of giving it up.

I'm wondering why you're disappointed about losing a stone in about 8 weeks? That's a decent rate of weight loss. If you're in a stall/plateau you will eventually get through it.

85isalive · 14/11/2024 10:25

Hi @secretgirl - that's disappointing to have a stall. How long has it been? Are you tracking your cals? I am not doing that very well!

I think I am going into week 6 now. I am down 17lbs.

I moved up to 3 and the suppression isn't as strong as it was. I can pretty much eat as much as I want. I am not snacking much though. I am having lunch and dinner and some rice cakes in between.

I will definitely need to calorie count though - at the moment I am just eating what I feel like. The weight loss has been 1-2 lbs for the last couple of weeks. Which is fine, but I feel like I could put more effort in. I am really busy at work, and not exercising either. So not fixing the habits I promised myself I would fix while taking Saxenda.

I noticed at the weekend, when I had a lazy day and didn't take my shot until around midday, I was starving that morning. Actual hunger for the first time in weeks. So while I am not having a lot of suppression, it's staving off the hunger and therefor the food noise.

PrairieDawn101 · 15/11/2024 07:12

How are you all dealing with the still wanting food even though you’re not hungry? I have been on for around five weeks, but now finding I am just wanting to eat…..

bigdecisionaboutwork · 15/11/2024 08:44

@secretgirl I'm just over a 2 week plateau but I know where it came from - it was my birthday! I'm really seeing the results of counting cals and running - I have to consciously concentrate on that alongside the injections to get results. Hope all is going better for you x

I am peckish at mealtimes, so I want to eat. I can eat as much as I want now - I don't hit the "full" feeling I was getting a few weeks ago. Some of the food noise is back, but not as much as before I started Saxenda. I can ignore it.

Last week I was kind of thinking, this isn't working any more, but then I didn't take my injection until 1pm on Sunday and I was starving. So I guess it is still working, I just don't notice it working.

bigdecisionaboutwork · 21/11/2024 16:23

How's everyone doing? I really concentrated the last 3 days and realised I'm feeling full on 600-800 calories, as long as I drink lots of water. That was unthinkable 3 months ago so it's deffo still working.

bigdecisionaboutwork · 27/11/2024 19:06

Was in the office today and got a message at 8.30am that my new pens were delivered (to the porch), so was crossing my fingers that they would remain chilled. Well the icepacks were completely solid when I got home 5 minutes ago, so no issues there!
