I've just started this morning after months of research. Feeling nervous but excited. Any other new or existing users want to join support and share successes?

Dose 1 administered. I'm officially in the club! Interested to see how it affects my blood sugar levels. Dropped the insulin this week in anticipation of starting Mounjaro and have been doing OK with just metformin but only if I'm very very careful about my carbs. Have been sticking to between 50-80g carb a day which is not quite Keto level but very limiting.

SW - 208.1lb, BMI 31.6

BatFacedGirlll · 05/09/2024 18:36

@Belindabelle I now buy a 5mg pen and take 2.5 out of it (which is basically just counting 30 clicks round) - the day I jab varies but I supply leave about 4 days between doses so I suppose you could say I'm taking 5mg every 8 days ish.

I should just bite the bullet and go for it with 5mg but I know several people in real life who went up and well, it wasn't good! One ended up in bed for 3 days waiting for the nausea and vomiting to pass and the other was literally having explosive stomach upsets with zero notice

I know we are all different but I'm not wanting to chance it Grin

BatFacedGirlll · 05/09/2024 18:37

@Sadteacher you're just in your first week are you? Is tomorrow your first weigh in?

BatFacedGirlll · 05/09/2024 18:38

@alwaysscared you'll be fine! 2.5mg is unlikely to make you feel sick, let alone be sick, so just pull yourself up by the bootstraps and take the first step!

Whereisthewine · 05/09/2024 19:18

Been approved!!! Keep reading about the number of clicks to do? Does it mean every time you have to click 30 times to administer a 2.5 dose? Sorry if that's a silly question

StormingNorman · 05/09/2024 19:24

Hi! I started yesterday on 2.5mg and haven’t felt any different today. Maybe a marginal reduction on my appetite. Bit disappointed as people are saying it’s better than ozempic, but I’m not seeing it so far.

BatFacedGirlll · 05/09/2024 19:28

@Whereisthewine no, you'll just turn the pen round to the number 1. It's very straightforward but I found it helpful to follow a video explanation the first time

BatFacedGirlll · 05/09/2024 19:30

@StormingNorman a teeny bit premature! Don't worry. You're not supposed to feel a thing the day after. Yes, some do but the overwhelming majority of people don't. Give it time and you'll be fine

doodleschnoodle · 05/09/2024 19:42

Hello, can I join please? I just did my first jab 5 mins ago! I'm 14stone 10 currently, which is BMI of around 34 for me. I'd like to get to a healthy BMI, and be around 9 stone 10, so I have more to lose than I originally thought.

Really excited and a bit nervous as not sure what to expect. I'm the family guinea pig too as if this works well for me, my husband has agreed to try it too, so fingers crossed.

I was slim till my mid-20s even though my diet was appalling then, and now my diet is much better, I cook from scratch a lot etc. but I'm fat! So I'm hoping that being on MJ makes it easier for me to build on those good habits and reevaluate portion sizes without feeling hungry all the time.

Thehop · 05/09/2024 19:58

Hi all. Starting tonight. Terrified of the injection 🙈

Hi all. Starting tonight. Terrified of the injection 🙈

It's painless! So don't panic. Granted I'm used to self-injecting with a proper needle, but I didn't even feel the MJ one going in. I just chose a nice juicy bit of flab on my stomach (plenty of it around). The needle is tiny.

I always found stomach way less painful than thigh with standard injections too.

Sadteacher · 05/09/2024 20:07

@Thehop i was terrified too. The needle was so small I told myself it was a scratch. It actually only felt like a little scratch. Good luck.
@BatFacedGirlll yes first weigh in tomorrow for me. I’m ready for the next dose, feeling positive about the journey!

20bloodypounds · 05/09/2024 21:12

@StormingNorman I think it affects us all differently. I'm sure it will happen. I took my first dose yesterday and I don't 'feel' any different. Except I had a busy early morning and realised that I'd missed breakfast. We had lunch booked with friends so there was no point in a late breakfast, so I just got on with things. However I didn't feel hungry. Not un-hungry particularly, but not ravenous.

At lunch I'd decided to have 2 starters rather than a starter and main. Lovely pea, bean and goats cheese tartlet; then baby smoked haddock fishcakes and salad. dh and I shared some fries and I only ate about 5. And they were really good fries too. I didn't even finish my fishcakes. I'd just had sufficient. (where did concepts like 'enough' and 'sufficient' ever come into my previous eating habits?). Not remotely tempted by dessert.

But my biggest surprise was the wine. I had a glass with my starter, then 4 of us shared a bottle. Normally that would have been a signal for me to want more (sometimes much more). I noticed that one of our friends asked to hold onto the wine list, so ordering another bottle was a definite option, but I just had no desire for it. A decaf macchiato was more appealing. If nothing else, cutting back on wine will surely have a positive effect on my health.

Thehop · 05/09/2024 21:25

Thank you so much for that!

stupidly; o can't find a video that explains exactly how I get the needle on my skin! Do I gently push? Do it fast and strong like an epi pen? Am I overthinking?! 😂

EJA24 · 05/09/2024 21:27

Purplehearts757 · 05/09/2024 17:39

Just done dose 2 hoping for no side affects as i have work tomorrow 😬 week one was good the last 2 days i have had increased hunger but managed to get through it.
Sw 20.11
Cw 19.13
G anything below 15

Wow congratulations! What a huge loss! 🌟

SpiderMother · 05/09/2024 21:40

First one is done. Was definitely scared and overthinking it but I’m glad I’ve started.

Im a bit confused by electrolytes. Can anyone recommend a particular product.

BatFacedGirlll · 05/09/2024 21:46

@SpiderMother electrolytes aren't at all necessary so I honestly wouldn't bother. Useful if you've had an upset stomach but I really wouldn't bother on a regular basis. Your usual soft drinks and water will honestly do

SilenceInside · 05/09/2024 21:48

Gentle and steady push,@Thehop not strong and fast like an epipen. I often can't even feel it, so need to visually check that the pen body is against my skin before I start to push the plunger in.

@BatFacedGirlll Thank you, that's helpful to know. I've been pre-emptively eating healthily and drinking lots of water this week, so hopefully I've started from a good place.

Ggplot · 05/09/2024 22:01

Hi everyone, first injection just done - although it took me about 30mins as I was scared of doing the injection but actually it was fine a very small prick and then it was done. So for anyone else who is thinking of starting don't be worried about the needle as it's very thin.

Like some on this thread, I am in peri and look like a pumpkin 😔 all my weight is on my belly and butt and I just feel so uncomfortable. I am hoping to get to around 60kg and am currently around 93kg which is shocking considering I am only 5'3.

Hopefully, I will also see the good results that everyone else has been getting.

@Sparklepunk I am with medexpress and they need to see your face to compare against your ID. I also found my pic was too big and had to compress it for the website to recognise the picture.

Elephantino · 05/09/2024 22:02

@20bloodypounds I see what you mean about wine....I've just had a small glass and usually would end up drinking most of the bottle!

Haven't managed to finish lunch or dinner tonight. I think that maybe means my portion sizes are still too big.

20bloodypounds · 05/09/2024 22:12

@Thehop my package came with a link to the pharmacy's app (Numan) which included their own video of how to inject. I watched it twice before my first injection, then on pause, step by step. I was overthinking it, and it was actually very simple.

Thehop · 05/09/2024 22:21

Thank you so much @SilenceInside tgsts exactly what I needed to know.

thanks for the video tip @20bloodypounds ill use your watch and pause method.

ReadyForAction · 05/09/2024 22:39

@SpiderMother it is really encouraging that your GP was supportive. I am concerned about what mine would say and I have a lot more weight to lose than you do.

@WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe (cracking name)., I love your goals. I'm going to set mine and track in stones and lbs and kgs. Seems like kgs are more normally used, I'm still old ladies.

@BatFacedGirlll thanks for your injection advice and before and after pictures. You look amazing.

Is there a thread for what people are eating in a day? I normally boil a pack of eggs and keep them in the fridge. I think this will be a super helpful way of eating protein. I will track my food and drink and might take pics too.

Starting tomorrow. Off to work my goals out..
