I've just started this morning after months of research. Feeling nervous but excited. Any other new or existing users want to join support and share successes?

Seeing someone post about taking something to try and avoid hair loss - what vitamins/supplements should we be taking while on mounjaro?

Carry61 · 11/09/2024 14:31

Good luck mine is being delivered tomorrow! Exciting times.

I don't really know what we 'should' be taking so may be talking rubbish.

Because I am on MJ due to diabetes, I have a whole load of other tablets I take too which necessitated some organisation and a pill box so I figured I may as well take the opportunity to add in vitamins as I usually start well then forget all about them within a few days.

So I now have the following daily in addition to prescribed meds:

  • cod liver oil for my creaky joints
  • psyllium husk for fibre
  • a multi vitamin for peri menopausal women
Ilovegoodison · 11/09/2024 15:03

I'd like to join if that's okay? I took my first injection last night. Woke up this morning feeling a little bit nauseous, but not too bad . I am also burping more , but they don't seem to be the dreaded sulphur type burps ( yet anyway).
I have avoided weighing myself for years , but was well aware by my shape that I had gained a lot of weight in recent years. Really bad snacking habits and too much wine mostly! I'm 51 , in the middle of menopause and have really struggled to control my eating as I feel hungry all the time. My appetite today is definitely reduced, although not completely gone. Just had a bowl of chicken soup and a satsuma and that's filled me up- usually I'd be reaching for a bag of crisps after my lunch...

Good luck everyone- these pages are a great source of support.

Day 5 after first injection, only lost 3lbs. What's going on 😫
I'm hardly eating anything. I don't think it's going to work for me.
I'm drinking about 5 litres of water a day, could it be that??
I'm so disappointed. Why does nothing work for me?

SilenceInside · 11/09/2024 16:29

@alwaysscared I don't understand what you're disappointed about or why you think it's not working?

A 3lb loss in a week is more than what is recommended for any steady weight loss plan and you still have 2 days till it's been a full week.

Do you want to be drinking 5 litres of water a day? Seems like a lot?

Remember the first 4 weeks of 2.5mg are not meant to produce weight loss, although some people do get an early effect from it.

If you are obese and you have a lot of weigh to lose, then this has to be a long game not a quick fix. You should be expecting this to work over months, not days.

A loss is a loss! Well done! Some people don't lose anything on 2.5 as it's not a therapeutic dose so you're doing great!

Thinking I’ll be needing the added fibre at some point and could probably do with taking the peri-menopausal ones too - the joys!

alwaysscared · 11/09/2024 16:35

Yeah I know, I'm just disappointed as I used to be able to lose weight quite quickly but not anymore.
I was hoping for a big loss, which I know I shouldn't be. I dieted and exercised properly for 16 weeks at the beginning of the year and didn't lose a single lb so I think my mind is still there.
I have always drunk that much water, in fact I used to drink more. It's sparkling water as well, that's the only thing I drink.
One thing is my sugars have come down quite drastically which is obviously good! I'm generally a negative person, so find it hard to see the positives

OldKnees · 11/09/2024 16:36

Maybe you should choose a new, positive username, @alwaysscared, as befits someone who’s about to kick ass on Mounjaro!

Doobi · 11/09/2024 16:41

What is everyone having for tea?

Chicken curry here tonight with rice and +/- homemade chips.

I only have small portions of each, always have.

alwaysscared · 11/09/2024 16:49

@OldKnees ha, yeah maybe. Although I can't think of a positive name 😂😂

My understanding is that many people don’t have any impact from 2.5.

3lbs in 5 days is really good. It is working.

Why are you hardly eating anything? Because the injection is making it difficult to eat or because you are trying not to.

Do you know how many calories a day you are eating?

Pasta bolognaise. It's the only thing I have in to cook until groceries arrive tomorrow. Going for a small amount of pasta and not my usual mountain of cheese!

alwaysscared · 11/09/2024 16:58

@SwiftiesVSLestat I'm just not fancying much, and I'm scared to over eat as I don't want to be sick (emetophobic)
I'm probably having about 800 cals a day, maybe less

But 3lbs is loads, a standard bag of granulated sugar is 1kilo which is 2.2lbs, so you've lost more than a bag of sugar in 5 days.

1lb loss takes eating 3500 calories less than you need to stay at a stable weight. So 3lb is a deficit of 10500 calories.

It's not an exact science so some of that will be water weight but expecting to lose more than 3lb in a 5 day period is completely unrealistic and will set you up for failure. Even with MJ, you're looking at 1-2lb a week, that's a healthy loss,

doodleschnoodle · 11/09/2024 17:34

3lbs in five days is a lot! If you lost that per week you'd almost lose a stone in a month.

notenoughcaffeine · 11/09/2024 17:54

Day 2 and I don't feel like my appetite it suppressed at all! I'm disappointed

caffelattetogo · 11/09/2024 18:02

I'm on day 3 and not noticing any effects. I'm hoping I'm not one of those people this doesn't work for. I had such high hopes.

Make sure your food is good quality. But honestly, 3lb in 5 days is really good especially on the 2.5 dose.

Trounlet · 11/09/2024 18:13

Just in case anyone is using the WW app, did you know when you start on injections you chsnge the settimgs and it not only records your points but also your fruit & veg, water and protein? I only found it today and I've been using the app since May🙄

SpottyBumPony · 11/09/2024 18:16

3lbs in a week is great!

Ive just had sausage, baked beans and homemade chips. Ate half the sausage, most of the beans and a small amount of chips.

I’ve got to get the train to London tomorrow for work, I don’t know what the lunch plans are yet but I’m comfortable enough around my colleagues to have what I want or a smaller amount.

After listening to a Zoe podcast with Hugh Fearnley-Whitingstall about eating 30 different plants a week I’ve made up a 9 plant trail mix with some bits from the cupboard and a few extras I picked up today. It has flax, pumpkin and sunflower seeds; walnuts, cashew and pecan nuts; dried blueberries, dark chocolate and a bit of crystallised ginger. I’ll take a little pot with me tomorrow

raspberrymeringue · 11/09/2024 18:48

SpottyBumPony It sounds delicious, I'm looking out for ideas for healthy lunches

alwaysscared 3lb in 5 days is great, I'd be very happy with that. I'm not weighing until my 1st week is up.

suze12 · 11/09/2024 19:11

Hi everyone,

I’ve been reading the various threads for a few weeks and whilst apprehensive about side effects I decided to take the plunge and ordered last week and took my first dose about 4.30pm today.

I feel like I have a bit of a dry mouth but nothing else currently. Assuming it’s too early for anything drastic to be happening but really hoping to avoid nausea and headaches. Have a busy day at work (from home) tomorrow!

Hoping to join you all for support on this thread.

I didn’t weigh myself this morning but was 13.3 yesterday and had a big pasta meal & ice cream last night so think I would have been 13.4/13.5 today. BMI pretty much 30 on the dot.

I’m really hoping to have shifted at least a stone & a half by Christmas.

Wishing everyone else the very best. I’ve been overweight my whole life and come from a slim family so it’s been really hard. So bored of dieting and food dictating my life.

Let’s hope this is successful for us all!
x

SilenceInside · 11/09/2024 19:13

@caffelattetogo and @notenoughcaffeine please don't despair! It's very early days and not everyone has an immediate reaction. The amount of the active ingredient in your system builds with each injection so you should start to notice a difference soon. Some people don't see much of an effect until 5mg, 7.5 or even higher.
