Just spent ages reading this thread as I started yesterday and needed a bit of reassurance. Silly question but do we stay with this thread as August starters or does a new thread get started in September. Guessing we stay on August? I have never thought of using Mumsnet before but the threads about Mounjaro popped up when I googled Mounjaro. I had to look up the mumsnet abbreviations as I hadn't a clue what everyone was referring to. What a fantastic mine of information. Also joined a FB Mounjaro UK which is very helpful. Good luck to one and all!

ChunkyMunky · 24/08/2024 09:27

It was a Chinese @Choux I thought I would get away with it if I had a small quantity but clearly not.

Trying to think how much I actually managed to eat before it went in the bin, I think it was as follows:

  • 2 forkfuls of fried rice
  • 3 pieces of chicken
  • 1 piece of pork
  • 4 chips
  • 1/2 rib

I’d avoided ordering for me and just had a little sample of everyone else’s stuff, but that obviously isn’t the way to go.

Azuresky68 · 24/08/2024 09:29

@Pinkjenny just did my first jab yesterday. Welcome and good luck. Struggled with weight all my life and I am 68 now. Lost and regained the same couple of stone many many times. Not giving up!

Choux · 24/08/2024 09:29

@Azuresky68 you can post wherever you like. This August thread is a good way to find people at the same stage as you. The main Continuing Mounjaro thread is a good place for general chat or to get a question answered quickly as it's quite busy.

I think there are also threads for people who have a lot to lose, for people who are losing weight slower and for people who want to get ideas about what to eat. And you can even start your own thread if you think your post needs one!

16 days since I took the first dose and I’ve lost a stone. That’s not healthy. I ate at 3.30pm yesterday (two salmon fillets and some lettuce) and from 6.30pm until I finally got to sleep at 10pm I was bloated, sore, burping constantly and felt like I’d eaten a three course meal. I’m eating so clean and yet I still feel grim. Lots of water. I don’t understand what more I can do bar let these side effects pass.

I've discovered that lettuce now gives me the worst burps and sore stomach, so I'm now avoiding it!

Azuresky68 · 24/08/2024 09:32

@Choix thanks for the advice. Very helpful and much appreciated. Will have a look at other threads and good to know about busy thread where questions get answered quickly 😊

@MidLifeResurgence74 wow, a stone is huge. Congrats, though I recognise you’re feeling very rough. I had a similar though less extreme reaction yesterday because I delayed eating until 3pm and will not do that again. If I had been eating erratically and then not eaten until afternoon my body would have reacted similarly without Mounjaro. It’s not healthy. I had a shake this morning and have hard boiled eggs for lunch. The family can have egg mayo and I’ll have plain
with a couple slices cucumber, sth like that.

Timetochange24 · 24/08/2024 09:56

@Azuresky68 I'm taking my first dose this afternoon so you're not the only new starter. I've been really encouraged and informed by reading this and other threads so far. I have 4 stone to lose and really stressed that even by throwing money/medication at it, it might not work.

I did have my usual oats and yoghurt and fruit at 8am but yes - it was a rather huge gap between meals.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/08/2024 10:21

Lettuce is fine for me. Had jacket and salad last week and chicken ceaser salad last night and no I'll effects

We’re away - starting our holiday with a couple of days staying with relatives.

Last few days I’ve had some bread each day - just due to logistics, eating whilst travelling so sandwiches were easier, etc. I’ve not really been eating bread since I started this, and oh my god the effect it’s had. My stomach is like a beach ball and I’m so uncomfortable and really constipated. Definitely something I need to avoid I think!

Everyone else was drinking last night and I felt a bit of a misery not joining in but I just didn’t fancy it at all. I’ve not had a drink since I started - to be fair I don’t often drink anyway but I normally would for things like last night’s get together with family. I think if my stomach wasn’t already feeling so sore I might have done.

Off on holiday proper today. Looking forward to it. I do really want to loosen up a bit and enjoy a bit more, maybe get an ice cream one day or share some fish and chips. But something about it makes me feel panicky too - I can’t weigh myself and am just so anxious about undoing any progress I’ve made. I don’t think I’ve ever been this fussed about sticking to anything before - holidays would absolutely be a time to eat/ drink whatever I wanted and worry about it later. I just have this feeling of this HAS to be the last time I’m in this situation - with mounjaro I’m finally feeling like I might have a realistic chance of getting back to a healthy weight and I just don’t want to mess that up. But I need to find a balance - I’m already aware that it’s taking over my life a bit and I’m boring DH rigid going on about it. Hopefully I can ease up a bit this week!

The dreaded bloat! It's awful isn't?

I do hope you have a lovely holiday

What was your starting weight? Sometimes, higher weights lose more quickly at first because there's a lot to go then it evens out.

2 salmon fillets is quite a lot in 1 sitting as that would blow me up too. Maybe smaller sized meals would suit you better for now.

I found peppermint tea has helped with bloating and burps.

TheShellBeach · 24/08/2024 10:33

I enjoyed our holiday and found that my appetite was well suppressed.

It didn't stop me from eating lots of ice cream, though.

Thank you! I started at 14 stone 5. The salmon fillets were the little skinny ones which in my old life would have been my lunch. I’m beginning to realised I might now need to graze 3-4 times a day rather than having set meals like before.

Princessandthepie · 24/08/2024 10:50

@MidLifeResurgence74 wow, that's relatively low starting weight so a stone off already is quick but not necessarily a bad thing, it may be more for your frame which is why it went so quickly. I started at 15.8 and have lost 11lbs in 3 weeks.

Take as it win because it certainly is!

Addictedtobeauty · 24/08/2024 10:53

Loving catching up with the thread- so many great losses being reported. It’s a brilliant motivator for those just starting out.

I did my fourth 2.5mg today. A small loss this week.

SW: 209
CW: 199
GW: 140

Dose: 2.5mg
W0: 209 (starting point)
W1: 204
W2: 199.8
Wk3: 199

However, last week involved an unexpected trip abroad for a family funeral. There was lots of eating and drinking with my huge extended family and participating was necessary. Meals were delicious, more than I am used to eating now, but I ate them and was very full afterwards. I definitely could have stopped half way through. However, on this occasion, it was more important to enjoy the hospitality and be respectful and I tried to pick the lightest choices. Other than fullness, no side effects. It has hampered my results though. I was three pounds lighter on Tuesday than I am today., but life will occasionally throw out these moments and I wouldn’t have missed it for all the tea in China

I'm almost at the end of week 2 and have been very fortunate with lack of side effects. Until today. Oh my poor guts! I haven't eaten anything different to last week (3 slices of pizza Friday night, within calories) and I was fine last Saturday.

Is the diarrhoea always linked to something you've eaten that's too fatty or carby?

doodles55 · 24/08/2024 11:07

I have a call appointment today with an advisor (Voy)
any advice re same?
Keen to know what advice they give regarding no appetite suppression ,no side effects ,nothing I’m due injection two tomorrow

Just don’t say you’ve ever binged or restricted. They’ll put you down as having a ED and stop prescribing for you.

@poppym12 definitely grease, high fat, fried are very problematic. Bear in mind too you’ll have more of the medicine in your system now than last week so you might now be more sensitive? I used to be able to eat salami (week 1) but now on jab 3 there is nooooo way!

Good point . I hadn't thought about the concentration of meds, especially as I've not felt any benefit from them for most of the week. I've relied on willpower which I'm pleased I managed. Bit disappointed really as I love pizza. I don't usually eat fried foods so that's easy to avoid but there was a lot of cheese. And chilli. Guess I'd better avoid pizza too. Dammit!! Hopefully the 'outburst' was a one off for the day and everything is out now as I really need to go food shopping.
