Just started.

Would be great to hear from others who are just starting.

First injection was was 28th July. No side effects so far. Appetite is decreasing but not as much as I've seen on other threads.

4 stone at least to lose.

I'm going to use this thread to give myself an online record.

Woke up feeling ok, but as the morning has gone on the low level sicky feeling has come back and bloat.
Feel like I have eaten a load of fatty food but I haven't.
Kind of an oily taste in my mouth.

AuntieDote · 08/08/2024 11:22

Day 4 - Feel fine, went to the loo as normal. Not had breakfast but I’m quite hungry now - more so than I’ve been previous days.

I feel like I’ve been eating a fair amount on day 2 and 3 - obviously much less than normal! But I think my day 2 calories came to about 1100 and yesterday came to 950 - even given that I had pasta for dinner. I had to check and double check the weights of everything to be sure I wasn’t kidding myself.

I’ve seen lots of posts about eating around 1000 calories, but is this coming from anywhere in particular? Is that what we’re supposed to aim for on Mounjaro or just how it’s working out for people?

Ideally I think around 1400 calories is more realistic and sustainable, and should still give me a weight loss. Increasing once I’m closer to target and starting to think about maintenance after stopping the injections.

I don’t know how long I’m going to be able to afford the cost of the medication honestly, and so no point losing it all on very low calorie only to pile it on once the effects wear off and I haven’t actually learned what a reasonable, sustainable diet looks like for me.

@trulybee pretty much spot on. I drink wine at home, usually a bottle a week spread over a couple of days, generally weekends. I have noticed over the past few months that I look forward to it a bit too much on Friday and it’s become a habit I’d like to break. I don’t want to be using it as a coping mechanism for stress at work when I know, and the evidence supports, that it’s not a healthy habit. My parents both had dementia and that leaves me predisposed to it- anything I can do to offset my likely genetic propensity to this terrible disease is a no brainer. I’d have no problem with the occasional drink- it’s not even the quantity that’s an issue- it’s the habit that needs to go.

AuntieDote · 08/08/2024 11:23

I do get bloated and windy after eating though. I’ve bought some digestive enzyme tablets to take before meals to see if that helps - might be a load of nonsense but worth a try!

Addictedtobeauty · 08/08/2024 11:31

@AuntieDote sounds like a very sensible approach. I’m not actually calorie counting atm- may do later. I am making a conscious decision to eat protein and veg rather than processed carb. I know that at 51, bread and pasta are my enemies. I simply can’t tolerate them any more- the bloating, brain fog, farting, itchy skin- it’s just not worth it. This is where MJ is really helping, as I’m finding it easy to choose foods that suit me rather than those that make me feel ill.

lookathatbookcase · 08/08/2024 11:41

Day 4 - first early morning weights session this morning which I worried that I wouldn't have energy for, but I did! and felt fine afterwards. I felt 'hungry' last night and made myself a plate of egg fried rice with chicken and veggies - realised a few bites in that I really didn't need or want all of it, just a little. Was also a bit bloated which I think came from rice at both lunch and dinner. Ginger tea seems to be helping with digestion. Bit of a headache but realised I've cut down on coffee massively.

Generally feeling fine though - I'm starting to nail down my routine of yoghurt/fruit/muesli for breakfast; protein + veggies for lunch and dinner (small), and carbs with one but not both of them; loads of water + a clear whey drink; and then a small protein-y snack. This also feels like a good model for when I'm going into maintenance - really don't want to be on MJ for longer than I have to be.

@AuntieDote I'm having between 1200-1400 calories for exactly that reason - enough to keep me ticking along and then far easier to work with on the rebound journey. I think it'll be easier to feel a little too 'full' when on that on MJ and then move to a regular maintenance diet and feel sated, than to get used to eating a tiny amount of calories and being ravenous when it's time to come off MJ.

@Addictedtobeauty I'm 48 and its a prime age to get into the habitual drinking of the middle aged. Never drinking enough to get drunk but drinking at home and on a regular basis. Like you I want to ditch the habit (particularly at home) and keep it for special occasions. It's my birthday end of September so will drink then but then hope to stay dry until Christmas. So many empty calories in alcohol as well.

trulybee · 08/08/2024 11:53

@AuntieDote @lookathatbookcase
I'm 5ft 10 and aiming for 1400 a day with over 100g of protein. The first couple of days I could only manage to 1000 calories approx but still managed to get 100g of protein. I think its really important to try and eat at a sensible level or you end of losing muscle mass which slows your metabolism further and it becomes a never ending cycle of weightloss/rebound. I really want this to be the last time I'm in this postion and looking ahead to when I am not on Mounjaro and how i'm going to deal with it.

I've not done any weight training this week as came back from holiday friday and plan was delayed for 7 hours so felt jet lagged for the first couple of days - only just getting my mojo back. Hoping to do some at home weights today for 30 minutes and on Saturday and Sunday.

NippyCrab · 08/08/2024 12:35

Catching up with all the posts I really should start to work out my protien and calories, I've not been doing that at all. I eat a lot of protein anyway and when I'm clean eating I get carbs from veg and occasional baked sweet potato or potato. Sometimes brown pasta.
I'm worried if I start counting calories I'll get obsessed then hungry because I eat full fat yoghurt and milk, don't have cheese cos it irritates my gall bladder (flipping love cheese). My portions are smaller now.
My first weigh in on Mounjaro is tomorrow.

WitchDancer · 08/08/2024 12:39

@Mounjarome I'm feeling really grim too. I was uncomfortable last night after my tea and spent all night awake with chronic wind. I was sick about 7.30am and felt a little better for it and managed to get a couple of hours sleep. I'm only on day 3 and am wondering if it is worth it!

Usernamechangeforthis12 · 08/08/2024 12:45

@Mounjarome Hope you’re feeling better now.

@WitchDancer I was rough yesterday, Day 3, but feel much better today and have even managed to eat a sandwich.

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 08/08/2024 12:47

Me again with another question - I've seen a lot of people saying to inject into your stomach for suppression and into your thigh if you want less side effects. If you inject into your thigh do you not get the same suppression?

WitchDancer · 08/08/2024 13:09

@Usernamechangeforthis12 what day are you on now?

In other news DH weighed himself this morning and muttered there's no way that's right.... changed the batteries and reweighed to his usual weight. I jumped on and I'm much lighter to the tune of 2 stone 9lb. Happy days!

trulybee · 08/08/2024 13:16

@WitchDancer Didnyou start in August and lose that amount? Shock

That's so funny, you must have had a shock with your original reading.

I have just upgraded my old Salter scales to new fancy digital scales with an app in preparation for this new step. I'm a stone and a half heavier than I thought I was which was quite daunting. Anyway no hiding my head in the sand at least it meant that they were more than happy to prescribe me.

WitchDancer · 08/08/2024 13:21

trulybee · 08/08/2024 13:16

No - the scales batteries had gone so I got a false reading, which I didn't realise until DH weighed himself this morning. I was feeling really down in the dumps because I thought I'd put on mega amounts of weight.

By my best guess I've dropped from 17 stone 6lb to 16 stone 11lb in 3 days. This doesn't surprise me after last night 🤢

CremeDeSudo · 08/08/2024 13:23

I've just come from my PT session. He didn't seem to notice anything but I definitely found it harder than usual. I had my usual breakfast, but a smaller portion. But I didn't have tea last night, just a protein bar. Hoping it's just because it's early days!

WitchDancer · 08/08/2024 13:23

@MissFancyDay it wasn't funny when I weighed in at over 19 stone but it is now!

Absolutely!! I meant the husband bit 😄

WitchDancer · 08/08/2024 13:56

@MissFancyDay true! I believed the scales.... there was no way he was going to 😂

CremeDeSudo · 08/08/2024 15:19

Anyone else considering changing the batteries in their scales now, just in case? 😆

Certainly thinking about it but I'm pretty sure DH changed them fairly recently.

90yomakeuproom · 07/08/2024 16:50

I've just upped my dose from 2.5 to 5mg and starting to feel really nauseous. I'm going on holiday on Sunday so was wondering if I should miss out a dose or how it works if I inject half the amount? Any ideas?

I’m really not sure sorry but if it’s making you feel rubbish don’t really want to spoil your holiday. Personally I’d skip rather than half xxx

I’m on day 3. But hunger seems to have returned and some food is talking to me!!

NippyCrab · 08/08/2024 18:13

I've just changed my batteries on the scales before weigh in tomorrow 🙃
