Massive NSV today !

My Bp was seriously high 180/110 ,absolute stroke level back in March when my GP started me on Amlodipine, when this didn't work he added Losartan which again didn't bring it down enough so he raised the dose. I also started tackling my weight.

Had a dizzy spell at the shops last week and made an appointment. Well !!!!!

Today my Bp was TOO LOW at 107 /72 and I've been taken off Losartan ,so I'm delighted !

I have to start a diary in 2 weeks time and depending on the readings I can hopefully stay off it.

So my 2 stone weight loss since March [ half of it since starting MJ in June] has had a major positive effect on my health already and I am so happy.

This is amazing!

@CosyNan Amazing news!!! Congratulations on getting off the meds!

BP is actually the reason I started all of this effort this time around. Sadly, mine is still very high and I have an appointment on Monday to discuss it. I would imagine I will be put on meds to and am somewhat disappointed that my over 2 stone loss, practically alcohol free life + MJ haven't had an impact😩

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 08/08/2024 15:36

@Snozzlemaid thank you for the encouragement 😁 It just feels very SLOOOOOW at the moment!

CosyNan · 08/08/2024 15:36

Thank you@DietStartsM0NDAY and @Callmejudith , I qualified for it on the NHS on health grounds but because there's no Tier 3 availability I had to buy it myself like most of us on here. Not easy on a single pension but I will keep going as long as I can.

There's far too much negative press re celebs and people who just need to shift a bit of flab to get a bikini bod .

All the very best to them but at the age of 72 I couldn't give a monkey's what I look like on the beach or even fully dressed !

Extending my life span ,improving my mobility and being able to play with my grandkids [or is that DGC New on here ! ], that's what spurs me on but good luck to everyone on this journey whatever their reasons may be for wanting to lose weight.

CosyNan · 08/08/2024 15:44

@IReallyNeedThisToWork

Sorry to hear that , we have lost the same amount of weight too. Mine just dropped like a stone last week after being within the normal range since starting meds after a lot of trial and error to get the right balance.

I also cut salt out of my diet as much as possible especially ready meals ,well tbh I've cut most things out since starting MJ as I'm just generally off food

Greyrockin · 08/08/2024 16:26

Hi @JomonotFomo are you sure your cals were over 2000? It didn't look too bad to me so I was interested to see what your total came to on Nutracheck and it looked like:

1.5 small slices of toast (with butter) = 243
1/2 pack of Pringles = 532
tbsp of mash (with butter & milk) = 46
one large piece of beef (100g?) = 193
60g carrots = 17
85g broccoli = 24
cake (depends on type) = 200
medium wine = 131

Total = 1,386 cals - plus your sweets and maybe gravy?

Callmejudith · 08/08/2024 20:57

I was wearing my favourite trousers today which are a baggy combat jean type affair, caught myself in the mirror and realised they are horribly too baggy and do absolutely nothing for me! I’m bereft though that I’ll never find a pair so nice!!

OP posts:
IReallyNeedThisToWork · 08/08/2024 21:53

@Callmejudith can you rebuy them? Have a look on Vinted maybe?

Lynsey14 · 09/08/2024 07:24

End of week 9 (I think?!) weigh in
SW: 13st 3.5
WI: 11st 10.5
GW: 10st 6

Just made the 1.5 stone mark today - the digi scales kept flickering between two fractions though and it was tight!!

daffodilandtulip · 09/08/2024 07:39

Couldn't resist a sneaky weigh in before I start 7.5mg tomorrow ... 12st 1lb!! Total loss of 20lbs in 8 weeks, can't tell you how amazed and happy I am.

A day of hiking planned today so dreaming that the last 1lb will magically vanish and I can start to tackle the 11's on this new dose.

It's now 4 weeks to my holiday and I can't even imagine what weight I can hope to be in another 4 weeks (or also when to start buying clothes 😂). 11st 11 is my lightest in living memory so thats where my old clothes stock runs out 😂.

daffodilandtulip · 09/08/2024 07:42

@Lynsey14 oo we're very similar! I started at 13st 7 and goal is 10st 7. Week 9 starts tomorrow. Well done.

daffodilandtulip · 09/08/2024 07:48

@DietStartsM0NDAY I don't routinely check my BP but my resting heart rate was always over 100, easily 140 when walking upstairs. I regularly got palpitations, woke up in the night panicking, was anxious all the time.

My resting heart rate is now around 60 and hasn't reached 100 even during exercise. I sleep all night and haven't had a panic attack since the start ... which is interesting as that must be more medication related than weight as the panic stopped very early on.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 09/08/2024 07:59

7am spinning class ✔️

Don't recognise this woman!!!

Oh gosh, I am sat here almost in tears. I haven't weighed myself for a long long time and when I got MJ I just guesstimated 88kg and was wearing size 16s. The last 7 weeks I have been dropping inches for sure and getting rid of clothes that are too big and I'm wearing smaller sizes.

I decided to be brave this morning and get on the scales thinking I would be about 80kg and I am bloody 88kg! I'm so upset. Am I just utterly delusional and I'm much bigger than I thought?

The rational part of me knows I carry a lot of muscle and I now in medium gym leggings down from XL but the irrational part of me is so so upset. I was starting to feel confident again and now it's all down the toilet

I lost 4 stone a decade ago and as soon as I stopped weighing myself I put it all back on so I feel like I need the scales to keep me honest but why are they such bastards????

@Callmejudith breathe. And sending big hugs 🤗

You have clearly lost over the last 7 weeks but have simply mis-estimated your starting weight. Frustrating for you as you don't KNOW how much weight you've lost but you DO KNOW you have lost inches.

Tuck the 88kg away for now and KNOW that the next time you get on those scales, you will weigh less!

(Have to admit to being a daily weigher as it keeps me in check. It's when I stop that it all goes pear shaped 😩)

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 09/08/2024 10:45

@Callmejudith One thing to keep in mind is that no one but you sees the scales. The numbers don't matter half as much as the increased confidence, smaller clothes, feeling better.....all things you clearly describe yourself feeling. You have made huge progress, and will continue to do so.

Yes, seeing a bigger number than expected is shit, but just think, you've already got rid of the surprise 'extra' weight and will keep going to shift the other stuff. You've got this!

Thank you lovely. Yes I need to just accept that I actually probably started at more like 93kg and I am never ever ever going to see that number again. Ok daily weighing is needed and I need to take the emotion out of it.

Going to put on my medium leggings and go to spin.

Hi @Callmejudith - would it help if you changed the scale units from kilos to pounds or stones? I think some people find it helpful to do this when they have weighed in a particular unit previously. I tend to weigh in kilos instead of stone for this reason as kilos don't mean a lot to me.

Ineffable23 · 09/08/2024 10:56

thesugarbumfairy · 08/08/2024 10:49

@IReallyNeedThisToWork yay for the gym!

I'm currently on an 'active for health' course (aka 12 week easy exercise course for fatties) As part of the course we get free gym membership. Includes gym, classes, pool. So I've done a gym induction and I'm going to try to get there as often as I can. My preference is dance classes but there's never a space so I've given up hope on that. And I hate swimming.

Yesterday I took my eldest paddle boarding (he enjoyed it on holiday) and of course I fell in. Couldn't get my lardy arse (not as lardy as it was!) back on the board so had to swim for shore. Took me forever and I detested every minute of it. Then I was violently sick. Eldest didn't enjoy it (he has dirt issues and for him English lake = dirty) so that was a waste of 34 quid!

Can you ask the receptionist when the bookings open? I found they were really helpful. I also found I was able to sign up for a cancellation place and if I missed the first day to book but put myself on that fairly early on then I almost always got a place.

I thought of that but I used to do pounds and immediately just googled KG into lbs lol

I tell you what is good though, usually in this situation I’d say fuck it and start planning pizza and 3 bottles of wine in the pub. MJ is stopping me doing that!

Bookings open one week before the class at 7am and you have to book on the app. I have not managed yet to get a place (I'm on a waiting list but no-one cancels!)
