Have lost over 3 stone now and about 20 lbs or so from goal

All on 2.5mg. I've chosen not to titrate up

@MadameMassiveSalad I went for Mounjaro over anything else because it was reported as being the best tolerated and the best weight loss so it was a no brainer 😃

And I've not had any side effects of note and just a touch under 4 stone loss now so it's been really good for me (touch wood)

MadameMassiveSalad · 10/07/2024 19:19

Thanks @SuperBatFace agree it does look to be the most effective.

What do you think about holidays?
I'm away in about a month's time... would it be a good idea to start now and get some in my system?

Would I need to keep it refrigerated travelling?

🤔

You look
Amazing by the way op, I'm
In a vicious circle really at the moment I want to exercise but I have osteoarthritis in my knees and obviously being over weight isn't helping . I like exercises and eating healthy but since mid 40's I can't shed a pound

Me too! I'm thinking that losing weight would really help my knees!!

SuperBatFace · 10/07/2024 20:01

@MadameMassiveSalad ha yes - the knees! I was lucky enough not to really suffer but I was noticing it in early March when walking up stairs. They were a bit twinge-y!

I'm going away in November to the Seychelles so quite a big trip and I wouldn't want to take a pen for that I don't think

Having said that though, they do not need to be kept refrigerated - merely at a room temperature and not allowed to freeze - so they'd travel well if need be. I've read of people taking them in n planes etc

Only you can decide when to start but if you're keen don't put it off. There will always be a holiday / birthday / weekend / celebration so I'd get cracking

You will still be able to enjoy food when away, if you fall into the category that most people do ... just instead of wanting drinks, starters and puddings, you'll probably be satisfied with a small main and a couple of bites of a dessert.

Wow! You look well slimmer than 11st 9!

justsaxy · 11/07/2024 06:04

For those querying travel, I just took my pen and needles in a clear ziplock bag, and in my hand luggage. No one questioned anything. I took two once as I was going away for a month, and was mid pen, but again... nothing at all.

dontdrawjapan · 11/07/2024 06:36

Well done on your efforts, your discipline is inspiring! I tried wegovy but I found it had the opposite effect - I became a lot more hungry and struggled to lose any weight on the starting doses, I am wondering if anyone else has had the same effect? I had been slowly losing weight with diet before starting. I read that some people don’t get any effects until they get to the higher doses but it would be nice to know if someone else has experienced similar and made it through the other side!

Did you get it on the nhs? I've just goggled it and said not available in Scotland unless you have type 2 diabetes ? My pharmacy offers something called saxenda , is it the same thing? I can't lose weight at all
I'm almost 50
Perimenopausal my bmi is 35,6 I have joint problems and a fuzzy Brain

The vast majority of people on mounjaro pay for it themselves. There are loads of threads on here that are really helpful to read through if you're curious (see the weight loss injections topic).
Personally it has been life changing for me. Yes it has been expensive but I am no longer obese and making healthy choices everyday.

What is MJ?????

Tenaciousbeyondallthings · 11/07/2024 09:33

I googled a bit...i dont think i can use this as i take levothyroxine for thyroid issues.

I have taken levothyroxine 200mic a day (the highest dose) for 26 years. All declared to the online doctor and also discussed with own GP.

The thyroid issues are NOT related to under active (hypothyroidism) rather to more difficult to manage thyroid problems such as hyperthyroidism, Graves' disease etc.

I have been on it for 7 weeks. Will be sticking at 5 mg for now.. as good suppression and have lost 2 stone so far. My half asleep thyroid has always made weight loss a real challenge. I seem to have finally found the answer to get to a healthy weight.

What is MJ?????

Mounjaro = weight loss injection

Tenaciousbeyondallthings · 11/07/2024 09:56

If you read this thread you will see it is about a weight loss drug called Mounjaro.. from there not to tricky to work out from there that it is shortened to MJ

SuperBatFace · 11/07/2024 10:19

@pollypocketss have a Google and a read through the threads on here

typicaltuesdaynight · 11/07/2024 14:30

Thanks wickerpram I definitely think it would be worth the cost , especially if I lose weight become a healthy weight and hopefully less pain in my knees

Tipster100 · 12/07/2024 09:33

@Callmejudith thank you for that info - really helpful - and for the link. Am looking into it all now.

Tipster100 · 12/07/2024 09:36

SuperBatFace · 08/07/2024 18:24

@Tipster100 have a Google and read up about it and also have a read of the threads here too. You'll then get an idea if it could be for you. How much would you like to lose?

I have always ordered from med express and found them straightforward with no issues. Don't be swayed by using peoples discount codes btw - make your own choice.

Thank you for this info. I don't have loads to lose - about 2.5 stone. However it has quite a few health effects for me including fatty liver. I lost it all before Covid but as an emotional eater found lockdowns a way of eating it all back on! Since then I have found it extremely hard to lose again especially since starting HRT. I will look into this as I suspect I wouldn't need to go on too long but the help it would give me to not only my physical health but my mental health would be immense. Thank you for posting about it.

SuperBatFace · 12/07/2024 10:21

@Tipster100 it definitely helps mentally too - you're just able to make better choices.

With 2:5 stone to lose you could be on and off it within 6 months (and that's my plan with almost double to lose initially than you!)

However in the States where they're far ahead of us with its usage, people take a maintenance dose for life ... I suppose a little like some people are on statins for life or high blood pressure tablets etc. But I'd really rather not do that! It just makes the lifestyle changes easier to cement in I find.

I've now got 1 stone 4 lbs to go and I anticipate I can lose this by about September and then I will come off it

OP posts:
Tipster100 · 12/07/2024 10:35

That's brilliant - well done! I remember last time I lost weight just silencing the shaming voices in my head gave me so much more energy! I imagine I will need to start after my holiday in August in case of side effects. What sort of foods do you eat? I'm asking to work out if that is why you've avoided side effects.

SuperBatFace · 12/07/2024 10:59

@Tipster100 I eat everything tbh. I'm vegetarian anyway (well, vegan - ish, I just can't give up Greek yogurt or cheese!) so it's trickier for me to get protein in

Yesterday was ...

Greek yogurt, berries, drizzle of peanut butter, teaspoon of apple cinnamon flaxseeds, few walnuts

Rocket, pear, feta, pistachio and balsamic salad

Handful of tru fru ( addicted. Don't google what they are in case you become addicted too)

Bag of pop chips

Pitta with roasted veg and hummus

About 1300 calories give or take

And today I've just had a bowl of protein yogurt, orange melon and goji berries

SuperBatFace · 12/07/2024 11:01

I usually have a slight fizzy drink issue too - not huge but I will drink a minimum of a can of Coke Zero a day, sometimes 2.

Now i can't really drink much of it at all. I have probably 1 - 2 cans a week.'I've read that people just can't drink it anymore so that's weird isn't it?

I just never really fancy it

You're going really well!

Tipster100 · 25/07/2024 08:52

That's a great steady loss. How are you feeling? I have been researching a lot since you posted. How do you find doing the injections? I'm such a baby - bit frightened of needles! How much loss have you had now? Have you been doing blood tests at all? Are you nervous of coming off the injections or do you feel you have retrained yourself and your eating habits? How much more left to lose? Lots of questions! TIA

SuperBatFace · 25/07/2024 10:34

@Tipster100 thanks!

To answer your questions - and in my experience only of course -

Injections are easy. The needle is minuscule and cannot be felt. It only goes beneath the surface a little so no deep veins or anything! Of course I was apprehensive the first time as it's not natural to inject yourself it? But from then on - once I realised it's pain free - not a problem

Not done any blood tests. I last had some done privately with Thriva about 3 years ago and I intend to repeat these once in a normal weight - just to see how my cholesterol and inflammation markers have responded to weight loss

I've lost about 4 stone now and my BMI has reduced from 36.7 (I think it was about this!) to 26.8 - I've got one more stone to go to reach normal weight, which for me is about 10 stone.

I'll then see how I feel. I don't need to be thin or anything like that - I'm not losing weight for a specific holiday or anything (although we go away long haul in November so I'd be lying if I didn't admit to wanting to feel comfortable for that!) but my focus is on trying to improve my health for as long as I can and to feeling fitter and stronger

Tbh, I have no idea if I'll be able to keep the weight off this time. The best predictor of the future is what's happened in the past - and I'm really aware that the majority of people who lose weight put it all back on - plus more. I think your body fights to return to a 'set point weight' and I know that the chances are... it'll go back on

So obvs I don't want this. So I am spending time thinking about how I can be an exception and - this time - keep the weight off

It's really easy to say ' oh I'll just eat less and keep moving more' but I think I need to really think hard about what that looks like for me and what I'll do to make sure it happens

So that's a work in progress!
