I love both. But hig roast or fish chips van

Zingading · 03/07/2026 17:29

Paella is easier if you want to have a vegan/vegetarian version and a meat/fish version so people don’t have wildly different meals.

helpfulperson · 03/07/2026 17:30

I think paella. Everyone has hogroast so it would be a refreshing change.

Pansykavalier · 03/07/2026 17:30

Paella - assuming it is well executed. I imagine a hog roast would be easier, as in less likely to go wrong.

So, a guess it depends on your degree of confidence in your caterers.

purplecorkheart · 03/07/2026 17:32

Paella much taster in my opinion. Also if it is not seated much easier to eat.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 03/07/2026 17:32

Purely personal but I don't like rice, so paella is basically all one thing I don't like. Whereas with a hog roast there are usually side dishes and 'bits', so if you don't like one thing you can leave it.

Grumpynan · 03/07/2026 17:32

Where as I love a hog roast, doing a vegetarian option is always like an afterthought.

paella is different and you could do a fish / chicken / vegan options very easily

cheezncrackers · 03/07/2026 17:33

Paella is more versatile, because you can have lots of different ones - a seafood one, a meat one, a veggie one, etc. Hog roast - great if everyone is a meat eater/eats pork - not so great if not. So do you have veggies, Muslims, Jews among your friends?

tillyandmilly · 03/07/2026 17:33

As a vegetarian to see a while pig being roasted makes me feel really sick!

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 03/07/2026 17:34

If you went for the hog roast what would you give the non meat eaters

BotterMon · 03/07/2026 17:34

Hog roast. Too much risk of food poisoning with paella especially if it's a hot day. Unless of course you are getting married in Spain where it would be de rigueur.

AgnesMcDoo · 03/07/2026 17:34

I loathe paella but hog roast is very smelly and will be hard going for the veggies in the room.

SpottyAlpaca · 03/07/2026 17:38

Both please, OP 😋

But if I absolutely had to choose, La paella para mi, por favor.

Ponderingwindow · 03/07/2026 17:39

Paella is going to be a no go for people with seafood or nightshade allergies.

Pork is going to be a problem for people with alpha-gal, but that is less common and it is the kind of meal that tends to include multiple side dishes.

AlwaysSometimesNever · 03/07/2026 17:41

Paella for sure. I find weddings exhausting and the solid carbiness of it keeps me going longer.
I always like the hog roast idea but the reality of actually eating it is always a bit disappointing. A bit lukewarm and greasy.

youalright · 03/07/2026 17:43

Neither are great options

Miyagi99 · 03/07/2026 17:54

Paella, easier to do a veggie option.

FlipFlopZebra · 03/07/2026 17:55

If you’ve got veggies and vegans invited then hog roast probably isn’t a great option.

user1497787065 · 03/07/2026 17:57

Definitely paella but I wouldn’t eat anything if I wasn’t sitting at a table with a plate and cutlery.

TheChosenTwo · 03/07/2026 18:01

Well I’d eat hog roast and I wouldn’t eat paella (okay I’d eat some of it but not a fan of wet rice with things in it, I like the elements individually!) whereas with a hog roast it’s easier to control how it all fits together on a plate.
I’m the first to admit I’m odd about food and as a wedding guest I’d smile polite and tell you the meal was lovely even if I hated it, it’s what gracious guests do!
you will quite literally never be able to please every single guest with mass catering so go with your nearest and dearests favourite.

PropertyD · 03/07/2026 18:03

Neither. I will be honest that anything with the word hog wouldn’t have been part of my wedding invites.

LIZS · 03/07/2026 18:05

Hog roast. Think paella has too many ingredients which might trigger allergies and for specific tastes.

durdledoris · 03/07/2026 18:07

Went to a wedding that had paella with breads and salads a couple of years ago, was absolutely lovely and l would much prefer that to a hog roast

Newmeagain · 03/07/2026 18:09

A lot of people don’t eat meat now and even among those who do, I think lots of people don’t eat pork?

amylou8 · 03/07/2026 18:09

As a veggie the dead pig would certainly detract from my enjoyment of the event, but it's your wedding so I'd just look the other way or something.
