Just that - let me know please ✨

Our wedding was an age ago, but we had the traditional 5 sugared almonds. They represent love, health, happiness, fertility, and long life together.

Eek3under3 · 31/07/2022 20:33

We had homemade fudge at ours. Cheap (made by DM) and seemed to go down well!

20viona · 31/07/2022 20:33

Shots always.

PurBal · 31/07/2022 20:35

Mead. Got little bottles with the meaning of the honeymoon on them. Edible things are great. Don’t bother with anything else unless it’s a donation to charity.

ihatebojo · 31/07/2022 20:36

We didn't have any at ours but I still have two rocks with our names painted on them (from wedding 20 years ago).

The only other ones I remember were pots of bubbles. I enjoyed that!

Sweet as it was, do you think it was genuinely worth the time and energy - months of searching? I could be wrong, but I don't really think that everyone treasured the badges as much as you did.

Maybe they didn't all wear them afterwards, but everyone was talking about them on the night and why they were relevant, so at the very minimum they were an ice breaker for the party bit of the evening. Whether they were worth the months of effort, I couldn't say, but the couple were very pleased with the reaction.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 31/07/2022 20:45

Worst one I had was an egg cup with a photo of the bride and groom on.

hazeydays14 · 31/07/2022 20:46

Our favours are going to be the place names on the tables so if people don’t want to take them, they’ve served their purpose and they were cheap so I won’t be bothered. They’re wooden handled bottle openers and MIL has a wood burning pen thing that she’s a dab hand with so she’s going to put peoples names on them. They definitely won’t have our names or dates because I’m aware no one cares about our day as much as we do 😅

Boggling at badges that were perfect for each guest. The recipients were probably as bemused as I am being kind.

Can I be a total killjoy and say please don't do scratch cards? So many people struggle with gambling and it's a nasty, pernicious addiction. You probably won't know that they are struggling and it's a very bad idea to encourage gambling anyway.

And yes, I know I'm a joyless fun-sponge.

Same can be said for alcohol though too.

Sunfriedegg · 31/07/2022 20:52

I got one I really liked, a little black/slate heart. With a string hanger. it had my name written on it and was my place marker for the seating plan. I’ve stIll got it hanging up next the one DH got with his name on. But come to think of it , the last two weddings I’ve been to didn’t have favours, and I’ve only just noticed.

3luckystars · 31/07/2022 20:55

I was at a wedding once and my friend pointed at the favours and said ‘oh look, aren’t the hotel very good to do that’

the bride had told me that she and her bridesmaids were making them for about 8 hours the previous day.

what an absolute waste!!

Dodolovesme · 31/07/2022 20:56

I think stuff personalised to the couple is quite naff... a friend gave out keyrings made of wine corks with their names and the date printed on - I can't imagine anyone except maybe her immediate family actually wanting to use them. I didn't want mine but there were so many left behind I felt bad!

I also hate love hearts lol.

I made Scottish tablet for ours (bit like fudge) it was a nod to the Scottish side of dh's family. Mil was really touched, not sure anyone else cared much. I did make a separate version that was vegan and gluten free, and the person who's children had those requirements was also touched I'd catered for them. So at least 2 people liked it!

My cousin had tiny cactuses in little pots. Loads were left and my mum scooped up a load. I have 6 of them on my kitchen windowsill and love them so I don't know if that counts as success or not haha!

trailrunner85 · 31/07/2022 20:57

Trailrunner!!! A jigsaw of your own face?!?! I have drunk a lot of gin. Mothers ruin! So unable to tell if you are joking or not!

Thankfully yes, I am joking. Though some of the favours I've received have been so hideously cringey that a jigsaw with my own face on might not have been out of place 🤣🤣

Note to engaged couples - nobody wants a "bespoke" cocktail or a mismatched tea set or a bit of handmade tat that conjures up your special memories...

KosherDill · 31/07/2022 20:57

None. Spend more on champagne.

Dodolovesme · 31/07/2022 20:59

I did go to a wedding where they had little boxes of sugared almonds mixed with chocolates (that looked the same)... With my friend who has a nut allergy 🤣.
I had to bite the corner off each of hers so we could see which ones were which!

BusySittingDown · 31/07/2022 20:59

Sorry, but I would reconsider the friendship if one of my friends got married and gave me a fucking jigsaw or egg cup with a photo of them on it! Jesus! Love themselves much? Do they think they're Charles and Diana? 🙄

What makes me roll my eyes is that people spend money on this tat and then put a bloody poem in the invitation to ask you for money towards the honeymoon! Tell you what, stop buying shite and you'll save a fortune towards your honeymoon!

Dontwakeme · 31/07/2022 21:00

Been to a wedding who had a table of whiskey decanters they collected in charity shops sitting for those who wanted one to take- defo wasn’t for everyone but those who liked whiskey thought it was great. Another had a table of pottery mugs- again only for those who wanted.
I think anything else other than maybe a scratch card/ a donation to charity or at a push a miniature drink is an absolute waste!! My same thoughts for party bags at kids parties, gives me the rage as I know it’ll all be in the bin so soon and what a waste !!!

The cactus plants sound cute in themselves, tbh, but handed out at a wedding?
Who wants to transport a flaming cactus at the end of an evening when they've had a few drinks?
Of course they were left.

I would like a mismatched vintage cup/glass.

That wouldn't be bad. Better than environmentally unfriendly new purchased tat.

KosherDill · 31/07/2022 21:02

BerthaBetty · 31/07/2022 18:50

Wild flower seeds, I collected all the little packets people left behind too. I had lovely wild flowers 😊

If one must do favours, this isn't a bad idea.

Johnnysgirl · 31/07/2022 21:03

Why, though? It's a wedding reception; why set up a bric a brac table for those who might need a mug?
The poster who said "Nothing, spend it on champagne" has summed it up in a nutshell. Nobody wants this crap.

steppemum · 31/07/2022 21:03

cockandball · 31/07/2022 19:20

I'm giving mismatched vintage teacup and saucer - the same set that they will be using for our afternoon tea, get to keep after. Think it's pretty genius to be fair!

I'm sure that the vintage cups are saucers will look lovely on the day and be part of your aesthetic.
but why would I want to take one home? What would I do with one (or two) mismatched tea cups? I never use a tea cup at home anyway.
