Unique ways to ask bridesmaids.

I'm not a fan of the proposal boxes but I'm looking for unique ideas to ask my bridesmaids to be part of my wedding party. Something that they maybe wouldn't suspect and are totally surprised by for example using an everyday activity/item.

Hope that's not too specific 😂

Just ask them in a normal conversation surely? Why has everything got to be such a faff? Is it for Instagram?

girlmom21 · 18/01/2022 10:41

What responsibilities come with being a bridesmaid because I'm just expecting mine to pick a dress they're comfortable in, come to my hen do and turn up on time on the day?

Am I missing something?

rookiemere · 18/01/2022 10:53

I like @SeeMyLanyardAndWeepBitch idea of the Millies cookie (although it did remind me of the old SATC episode where Miranda ate an entire cake iced with I LOVE YOU because she didn't reciprocate).
I think that was what OP was trying to achieve- a fun low cost way to make it special.

PurpleDaisies · 18/01/2022 10:57

How does having it written on a cookie make it more special?

She wants something unique - not something special

This is what I was responding to @girlmom21

Prosecco with a personalised label?

JoyOrbison · 18/01/2022 12:31

Scream it at them.

That will be unique Grin

Don't know why people are just so horrible these days!
I'm sending my flowers girls a little charm bracelet each and flowers to ask them as they live abroad and my MOH already kind of knows but I'll prob send her flowers too with a card.

You know your friends and what they will appreciated, its nice to feel special by the people closest to you.
Ignore all the haters on here, don't give them head space!

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken

I declined being a bridesmaid for my best friend. If you make a big song and dance about asking them, it makes it really difficult and awkward to say no if they don’t want to do it.
This. I was a bridesmaid once and would never want to do it again. Some big fancy hoopla about asking me would just make it more difficult to say no...
iklboo · 18/01/2022 12:42

I just asked my two after DH proposed. I gave them a choice of a couple of outfits, have them altered to their tastes (one wanted a shorter skirt to knee level, one wanted a more fitted waist on the jacket) and pick what shoes they wanted to wear.

Anything else just seems 'social meeja / Insta for likes'.

RJnomore1 · 18/01/2022 12:44

I seriously and without any sarcasm love the alphabet to spaghetti idea. That would make me laugh if it was me being asked. It’s not too full on and stops the whole thing being a massive performance but is quirky and memorable.

Can I ask about proposal boxes? Is the implication of the name you now propose to the bridesmaid to be a bridesmaid? Am I getting this?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 18/01/2022 12:49

@onethingonly

Please don't assume I'm being snidey because I'm not.

I'm just genuinely curious as to why these women will find being asked a surprise.

Surely they know how much they are valued by you, and what your plans are?

Why will they find it surprising to be asked?

AlbertBridge · 18/01/2022 13:09

I carved it into my forehead, waited for it to go septic, then let them read it when they visited me in hospital. Don't know if they cried; I was in a coma.

FilledSoda · 18/01/2022 13:42

I knew just by the title it would go like this.
I kid myself I'm young then read stuff like this and realise I'm a crabby aul bitch .

WaterBottle123 · 18/01/2022 13:51

Ask in a sensitive and casual way that gives them space to refuse if they don't fancy it, don't assume you are bestowing an honour.

This wins.Grin

I really feel sorry for younger people. They feel so sucked into the Instagram nonsense that just getting on and doing something seems boring. I have no recollection of how my friend asked me to be MOH. Probably a letter or phone call, no fuss needed.

One of my DCs is witnessing a friend going through all this, ever more elaborate self indulgence, and has vowed to have the simplest wedding possible.

You mean you were a girlfriend in coma? Grin

I didn't do proposal boxes but I sent out request cards to all participants (I can't attach all of them as MN won't let me). I created mine with Greetings Island, where I made the invitations too and also the cover for the order of service. Three of the cards are attached - I also created them for the best men, ushers, ringbearer, pageboy and special attendant candidates (the configuration is pretty much the same).

Hi,
I came across this website that offer a unique personalised gift idea to ask if they would be part of your wedding party. Not sure if this is what your were looking for, but thought I'd drop it here anyways.
