I no longer like my dress... opinions please

So this is me at my first dress fitting (although I’ve heavily cropped the pics so I’m not identified), alterations are still to be done to make it fit properly and obviously I won’t have a black bra on.

I liked the dress whilst in the shop but seeing these pics I think it really doesn’t look anything special, or suit me that well but I’m stuck with it.

From googling the dress I’ve read that other brides found it hung nicer without a hoop so I’m going to try that but I don’t know what else I can do with it?

I do have a veil to wear with it but my fiancé has accidentally found out about it so I’m not sure if I should still wear it.

Can I please have your opinions ladies.

First impression - bit plain for me.
BUT now I picture it with that gorgeous hair style with the veil underneath flowing down the back (such a lovely idea) and some beautiful flowers, I think its going to be amazing. Just the right amount of detail on the top, balanced out with a simple but elegant skirt.
Add in the alterations, correct underwear and maybe no hoop, I think its really really lovely.

Oh yeah OP, first fitting in Feb then a second fitting just before the wedding will sort everything out. Your boobs will change for sure if you're stopping BF!

WhatchaMaCalllit · 27/09/2018 13:56

As you've asked for opinions on the dress OP, I'm going to put my opinion forward too.

I think the beading on the bodice between the lacy top section and the organza skirt cuts you in the wrong place. It's not as flattering as another different gown might be. I think if that beading could be 6-12 inches lower on the bodice and you had more lace on the top, it would be more flattering. Along the lines of where your bracelets are in the front-facing picture. More fitted on top and then the beading and then the skirt of the dress.

I think the picture you've posted about your idea for your hair would be beautiful no matter what dress you end up wearing.

This is my personal opinion and like the others who have posted (both positive and negative before) I'm not saying this to hurt you in anyway but I think there are more flattering gowns out there, even with the time frame that you're under.

Best of luck to you.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 27/09/2018 14:03

If you are staying with the dress you have then I won't make any suggestions of alternatives but if you're wavering and considering getting another dress, I might make a few suggestions.

Can you let us know what you're thinking of doing OP?

Amara123 · 27/09/2018 14:08

You could also get the belt changed on it if you wanted some more embellishment? Wedding dresses don't look their best until you are all made up and all the accessories are added, I felt the same about mine until it was altered!

shearwater · 27/09/2018 14:09

I think it's lovely too, OP.

GlamGiraffe · 27/09/2018 14:57

As everyone says, the fit makes all the difference. It's a lovely dress and will look perfect. Depending on your post baby boob size and shape you might want to consider cups and "sausages" (stuffed sausage shaped fabric rolls seen in the bottom of the cups if like me you've hollowed out a bit). I had them and they were the absolute best thing ever!!
When you hold the flowers down at the right height (remember keep them low)they will be a really good balance For the lace top.
Totally agree about statement bracelet.bigish diamante would look fab.
I had hair up and did wear the veil on top but I had an extra piece made which cost almost nothing to cover my face as I walked down the aisle when was then removed as I didn't want it to ruin the pretty veil. I then had my lovely hair do underneath for later.
I think for hair it's so important to give it a couple of tries before as it can be hard to get right. I think the dress will look great when it's all complete. We've all had a freak before the wedding. It's normal!

explodingkitten · 27/09/2018 15:02

I like the top and the skirt but am unsure about the "belt". Can you try it on with different belts over it at the shop?

SailAwayWithMeHuni · 27/09/2018 16:39

I’m staying with the dress because I won’t be alive to get married if I wasted that much money! (Joking obviously but I couldn’t do it).

When you say try a different belt, this wasn’t a belt I added, it’s attached to the dress. Is it possible to change it?

With regard to lowering the waist line, I’m not sure how that would be possible or do you just mean ideally? I’m also not sure it would actually suit me, I have a giant mum tum and anything fitted in that area just makes me look like I’m still pregnant.

I like the idea of an overskirt, I’ve done a quick google but they are more trains at the back than anything at the front. I’ll spend a bit longer looking when the baby is asleep tonight to see if there is anything which would work.

Thank you!

Your seamstress could easily change the belt when making the other changes/alterations. Something like this might be more interesting?

Deadringer · 27/09/2018 17:03

The dress is lovely and you have a great figure op, you just need to be jacked up. Seriously, you will look amazing on the day!

GlamGiraffe · 27/09/2018 17:34

Yes, high heels, if you can cope, make everyone magnificent!. They make you feel amazing and give the illusion of looking much sleeker and slimmer so you feel more confident. Mine were my fun option in bright pink under my dress. I've worn them so much since.

welshmist · 27/09/2018 18:19

Both daughter and I went to bravissimo and bought some lovely lingerie, the right bra makes such a difference to the shape and they were so helpful when we described the design of the dress.

newroundhere · 27/09/2018 23:07

OK - here are some pics. Bit nervous about sharing as I'm sure not everyone will like the dress but it was perfect for me Grin

I had a side tiara and a mid length veil which did cover some of my hair. In terms of flowers I actually wish I'd gone for a bigger bouquet looking back at the pictures.

Hope this helps a bit @SailAwayWithMeHuni Smile

@newroundhere you look beautiful. @SailAwayWithMeHuni definitely go with no hoop and get your undies sorted for a proper fitting. Comparing your photos to @newroundhere 's make it look like such a different dress! Beautiful Flowers

newroundhere · 27/09/2018 23:13

Sorry - one more where you can see the side tiara

Far too many pictures of me.... Blush

Thank you OrcinusOrca Flowers

SailAwayWithMeHuni · 27/09/2018 23:16

@newroundhere you look stunning and you’ve actually made me really excited about my dress again!

Love the side tiara, might have to look at one of them. Although not sure it would work with the hairstyle I want.

Is your dress white or ivory? Mine looks a lot whiter in the pics.

newroundhere · 27/09/2018 23:45

Thanks SailAwayWithMeHuni - I'm so pleased it makes you like the dress more!

I can't actually remember if it was ivory or white.... There was only one in the shop so I didn't see the one I didn't have IYSWIM. It was probably ivory but I can't be sure Blush

I'd actually forgotten about the side tiara until I was looking at the pictures, but I now remember that I really liked it Grin

ThanksHunkyJesus · 28/09/2018 06:48

If you're not getting married till July I wouldnt get alterations done until May/ June. Make sure you've got your shoes and underwear sorted by the time you have your alterations done as you'll need to wear them while being measured. The dress is beautiful but will look a million times better without the hoop.

RainbowsArePretty · 28/09/2018 09:00

newroundhere you looked amazing! Star

villainousbroodmare · 28/09/2018 10:11

newroundhere you are beautiful and your DH is also gorgeous! Grin his suit is a v nice colour.

MinaPaws · 28/09/2018 17:25

I think it's beautiful and classic but needs to be taken in a bit where the bodice and skirt meet, to accentuate your figure. Then the flow of the skirt will work. The lace is gorgeous, and it's a classic design. Not too fussy. That means that your hair and makeup and bouquet will really stand out and be part of the whole impact. You don't want to be upstaged by your own dress.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/09/2018 17:44

I think that's one of the nicest wedding dresses I've ever seen. Simple enough but not too simple. And a style you can wear all day and enjoy yourself in, not fussy or liable to accidental displacements.
