I no longer like my dress... opinions please

So this is me at my first dress fitting (although I’ve heavily cropped the pics so I’m not identified), alterations are still to be done to make it fit properly and obviously I won’t have a black bra on.

I liked the dress whilst in the shop but seeing these pics I think it really doesn’t look anything special, or suit me that well but I’m stuck with it.

From googling the dress I’ve read that other brides found it hung nicer without a hoop so I’m going to try that but I don’t know what else I can do with it?

I do have a veil to wear with it but my fiancé has accidentally found out about it so I’m not sure if I should still wear it.

Can I please have your opinions ladies.

I think it'll look much different when it's altered and without the hoop.

I like it. I'd wear the veil too but then again I drove to my wedding with my DH so I am not the superstitious type. Still been married 20 year!

pinkpantsrock · 27/09/2018 06:18

It needs to be altered, will look totally different then. Currently the dress is drowning your figure

Themidnightcircus · 27/09/2018 06:18

Hi. Honestly from the front I think it's a bit meh. Not really eye catching .....i mean it's bland

WisestIsShe · 27/09/2018 06:19

I think it's beautiful
It'll look different when it's fitted correctly, shoes, hair, veil (definitely wear it)
I think you're just feeling nerves because there's lots of pressure to get everything perfect.

mycheapshoes · 27/09/2018 06:19

I think it’s lovely. Yes to the veil and how about a stunning bracelet?
I have to ask though-why would you go wedding dress shopping in a black bra?!

ItsalmostSummer · 27/09/2018 06:21

I like it. When you’re all done up I think it will be even nicer but you need to do the full prepare like that programme say “yes to the dress” - it’s the final picture in the mirror that helps you see what it will be like on the day.

TheBlueDot · 27/09/2018 06:21

I really like it, will look fantastic when it’s fitted to you. Veil would suit the dress so I’d go ahead and wear it.

skunkatanka · 27/09/2018 06:22

I agree re the bra. Ideally you should go to the fittings in the underwear you're going to be wearing on the day.

SmellMyBeads · 27/09/2018 06:22

It is gorgeous. You will look amazing.

NotANotMan · 27/09/2018 06:23

Your fiancé has 'found out about' the veil? Isn't a veil quite standard with a traditional dress? Keep the veil, get the dress altered and you will look lovely.

AdoreTheBeach · 27/09/2018 06:24

OP, as you saw with Meghan markle’s dress, busy dresses are not in fashion. Your dress is not busy but with just enough lace to make it interesting. Once it’s fitted, will look amazing. We see just a snippet of your hair st shoulder length so I’m sure your working on a killer hair do for the day.

Plus, think of your flowers too. Something trailing? All this adds to the overall look. You’ll be beautiful!!!

DaisyDando · 27/09/2018 06:27

I went off my dress during a fitting, and from what my friends and the internet have said, it’s quite common. I worried about it a lot and bought two other dresses off the peg as a back up. When it was properly altered etc, then it definitely was the right choice. Yours is very lovely and you will look beautiful on your day.
Returning unworn (spare) wedding dresses prompted a quiet response from sales assistants!

olympicsrock · 27/09/2018 06:27

It’s beautiful- particularly the back. I would wear a veil too.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 27/09/2018 06:27

The lace bit is really lovely and will look gorgeous fitted. Bottom but will looks loads better without the hoop.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 27/09/2018 06:28

What is it you dislike about it?

Have you thought about shoes? I really wish I'd worn a pair of dusky pink satin shoes I originally bought but my mum talked me out of.

VictoriaBun · 27/09/2018 06:29

Your just having a wobble. You picked the dress for a reason. Once it's been adjusted to fit perfectly. It will be fab.

Foodylicious · 27/09/2018 06:38

I think once it's fitted, you have your shoes on and hair slightly how you are going to have it , it will look gorgeous and you will have much better feeling about it.
Don't forget you will have your bouquet to carry too, nails done etc and that will all adds to the finished look.

Is the dress backless? Someone I know was having a bit of a nightmare re bras etc and come across something like this that worked really well

SailAwayWithMeHuni · 27/09/2018 06:46

Thanks everyone, you’ve reassured me a bit!

I think I look fat in it, but you’re right the alterations should sort that. It was meant to be an elegant dress but now I just think it looks plain and boring.

I’m going to have more buttons added to the train but don’t think there is anything I can add to the front.

@mycheapshoes I’m breastfeeding atm and never where white so only bought black nursing bras. Plus the shop I bought the dress from is closing down and gave me a few days notice to go and get the dress when I wasn’t even meant to be in until February.

@NotANotMan the shop informed me they were closing down by letter, I showed him the letter and he said to me after “I now know you’re wearing a veil when I didn’t before”.

You need to get it altered ASAP then have a try on with hair up, make up done, veil, shoes, a pretend bouquet and the proper underwear and then see what you think. I personally love it xx

SailAwayWithMeHuni · 27/09/2018 06:55

@Foodylicious thanks, that could be really useful! I was going to have cups fitted in the dress at the alterations.

How important are the shoes? You all seem to suggest very, but no one is going to see them? Don’t get me wrong, I’d get a nice pair anyway but I’m thinking I should give them a bit more consideration.

In terms of hair, I was thinking of something like this picture. Veil would need to go underneath though?

Re shoes, I think it's about how they alter your posture and the way the dress hangs.
I don't think you need killer heels, but a couple of inches, maybe a block heel if it's more comfy for you (I cannot wear stiletto type heels at all!) Makes loads of difference.
Def take some for your fitting

Foodylicious · 27/09/2018 06:59

That hair looks lovely btw!

Foodylicious · 27/09/2018 07:05

For the veil that is

mycheapshoes · 27/09/2018 07:06

Of course-flowers-they will make a massive difference to the front-the unfussy bottom will make a fab background for them so you can have whatever you want.
All good reasons for the black bra btw! I was just a bit surprised as I’m as crap as they come with underwear (I just wore my favourite boring comfy pants on my wedding day) but even i managed a white bra for fittings!
Shoes-make sure they are comfy above pretty much all else-to want to be able to dance!
