I no longer like my dress... opinions please

So this is me at my first dress fitting (although I’ve heavily cropped the pics so I’m not identified), alterations are still to be done to make it fit properly and obviously I won’t have a black bra on.

I liked the dress whilst in the shop but seeing these pics I think it really doesn’t look anything special, or suit me that well but I’m stuck with it.

From googling the dress I’ve read that other brides found it hung nicer without a hoop so I’m going to try that but I don’t know what else I can do with it?

I do have a veil to wear with it but my fiancé has accidentally found out about it so I’m not sure if I should still wear it.

Can I please have your opinions ladies.

Love the hair. You will look beautiful

SayZ · 27/09/2018 07:10

I like very sophisticated and classic will look completely different with your hair/make up and flowers. It’s lovely op

newroundhere · 27/09/2018 07:14

OK, I'm biased because that was my exact wedding dress!

I love it and once it's fitted it'll look lovely. I also had a veil, which I think worked nicely. Oh, and I didn't have a hoop.

RebeccaCloud9 · 27/09/2018 07:18

Alterations make such a huge difference. I was at the poibt of tears/wanting to change dress. But then alterations were done and it was like magic.

Don't worry about him knowing about the veil. It's a bit like saying we'll now I know you have a white dress.

Shoes weren't important for me. I had a v low heel, comfy but nice. Weren't seen at all and I changed into flip flops pretty quickly - no one could see them either.

villainousbroodmare · 27/09/2018 07:26

Lovely dress. When it's altered to fit it will be transformed.

Remember all the things you're going to change: a good fit, the right underwear, shoes with a bit of a heel, hoop possibly gone, hair done as you're doing, makeup, veil, flowers, possibly some jewellery... it will be gorgeous.

I was just flicking through pics on my phone and found photos of my sister's first trying on of her dress. It looked very ordinary then, but it was amazing on the day.

Congratulations!

friskybivalves · 27/09/2018 07:28

Joining the chorus of how lovely it is. The lace is beautiful and I particularly like the subtly darker band at the bottom.

So the fundamentals are there. Once it's nipped in at the waist and you have the shoulders sitting properly you will fall right back in love with it. It's elegant, classy - and because it's not too frou-frou you can have that beautiful hair without the overall look getting too busy.

I loved my veil - it was putting that on, rather than my dress, that really made me feel like a bride. I mean we all get to wear nice dresses in the rest of our lives but not a wedding veil! Totally special moment. Who cares if DP knows?

If the shop is shutting who will do your alterations??

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 27/09/2018 07:46

I think the dress is lovely! Once it's altered it will look completely different

RainbowsArePretty · 27/09/2018 07:47

I think the dress will be stunning when altered. I agree to removing the hoop.

Love the hair pic, very pretty!

It's completely normal to have second thoughts about the dress. I had them too as my dress needed altered.

As for DF knowing you will wear a veil, it's like him knowing you'll wear a dress! I didn't want a veil as I expected to find it fussy. However when I tried one on I felt amazing! I also felt it really added to my dress

Oblomov18 · 27/09/2018 07:51

Lovely, the dress is lovely.
Buy shoes sooner rather than later and make sure they are comfy.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 27/09/2018 08:19

That hair is gorgeous! Wish I'd had that!

The shoes - you see them more than you think imo. If the dress is altered correctly, you see a bit of shoe toe every time you walk etc. Also they just add to the general finished feeling.

CurbsideProphet · 27/09/2018 08:22

That's a lovely elegant dress and looks that it will be a very flattering fit once the alterations have been done.

SailAwayWithMeHuni · 27/09/2018 08:24

Thanks ladies, I’m feeling very reassured!

@Foodylicious yes that’s what I was thinking. It’s a bit different but I think it could work with the hairstyle?

@friskybivalves the shop always outsourced alterations anyway. They’ve given us the details to contact them and will just have it done at their home rather than in the shop. Not ideal but not worth stressing myself out about.

@newroundhere do you have any pics on how you had your hair, flowers etc? Would be great to see if you don’t mind.

It’s lovely and that hair is BEAUTIFUL.

I think its really normal to panic and go off your dress at this point. Once you have flowers, hair, jewellery etc you will look just right xx

GetOffTheTableMabel · 27/09/2018 08:32

Just a thought.....Will you still be breastfeeding in February?
I know people say breastfeeding aids weight loss but I don’t think it’s unusual for your body to hang on to some extra weight to aid the feeding. Mine definitely did and it melted away gradually in the few months after I stopped.
If there is any chance of much shape change, might you be better off waiting to do alterations. I know the store is closing down but don’t let them badger you into have your alterations done before you want them.
I agree with pp’s who have said that alterations make all the difference. The silhouette of the dress is very simple, it needs to fit well for maximum impact.

newroundhere · 27/09/2018 08:38

@SailAwayWithMeHuni I will find some this evening to upload Smile

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 27/09/2018 08:40

TBH, I wouldn't get it fitted now if you're not getting married till Feb AND you're BF. Your body will change enormously in 5 months if you're post partum.

But I also love the dress and think it will be beautiful on you when it's altered.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 27/09/2018 09:02

It looks classy and elegant to me. You might be distracted by the prospect of alterations. I thought the same as a pp, perhaps go for a trailing (cascading?) bouquet.

Googlemonster · 27/09/2018 09:03

Like other's have said, on the day it will look fabulous and you will feel beautiful...hair, makeup, shoes, flowers will all play their part. Stick with it honey and good luck. X

ApolloandDaphne · 27/09/2018 09:14

I think it is beautiful. Elegant and simple. With a veil, flowers and your hair up you will look perfect.

SailAwayWithMeHuni · 27/09/2018 09:17

Dress was first due in to the shop in February and the wedding is July. They got the designer to rush the orders through which is why it’s here now.

We are stopping breastfeeding atm so I won’t be feeding and will hopefully have lost the last of the baby weight shortly after. I was thinking of going for alterations in February.

Re your fiancé knowing that you are wearing a veil, mine ironed my dress on the morning of our wedding (it was a very simple silk halterneck and he is the champion ironer of the household). He was still surprised at how I looked!

WhipItGood · 27/09/2018 09:35

If you feel the front is too plain could you have some kind of overskirt to add more detail?

hatemeIhatemyself · 27/09/2018 10:17

OP your dress looks beautiful and you will look amazing once it is fitted!

also hair and make-up makes a huge difference but if i was you i would go for a low set mid length veil as well... adds that touch of sparkle 😍

I wore a dress I had fallen out of love with on my day and everyone still thought i looked amazing so i'm sure either way it'll be fine!

ApolloandDaphne · 27/09/2018 10:55

A veil with some light jewelling round the edge would add some sparkle to the plainness of the dress and tie in with the jewelled waistband.

viques · 27/09/2018 11:02

It's a very pretty dress and suits your body type because you seem to have a waist and nice arms ! Once it fits a bit better and you are in your wedding slap with your hair done and shoes on you will look fabulous.
