vivi I am a haberdasher and we have so many customers who make invites for people, they are always so busy you should consider it, a woman in our village's prices go up to £8 for an invite....yes that is for one, and all it is, is a bit of ribbon and a pearly button an card! Shock

Thistledew · 31/10/2012 17:07

We are going a bit more classic with regards to music, and we haven't settled on all of it yet:

Milling around before ceremony: ??
My entrance: Wink
Signing register:??
Exit: - a bit of music that I love, by my favourite classical composer, and a brilliantly celebratory piece. Plus the lyrics actually have a particular play on words for me.
First dance: by The Who. Maybe not this exact version. DP's choice, but I love it.

Are any of you planning on doing a proper dance? DP and I are thinking of having some dancing lessons to choreograph something. I actually find it quite difficult to dance with him normally which is not to say that I think he is not a natural dancer, oh no .

ViviPru · 31/10/2012 17:21

I don't think it works out very profitably when you consider the time it takes to stick on all the hotfix pearls and tie all the ribbons. And then add the narky brides into the mix... nah I think I'll stick to the day job! Is your haberdashery in Leicester, memphis? (Loves a rummage through ribbons and buttons does I)

Same here, Thistle, I was amazed DP was open to a bit of choreography - he's alright freestyle jacking to house music but has two left feet when it comes to a slow dance... I plan to ask my Zumba instructor who is a choreographer to show us the best way to move to our track, I don't want it to be too 'routiney' but otherwise we'll just be shuffling around clumsily...

TobyLerone · 31/10/2012 17:40

Oh God I LOVE haberdashery Envy

No proper dance for us. We had an idea to do one, but we fluctuated so long as to whether or not to even have a first dance, I think we talked ourselves out of it. It's going to be awkward enough anyway Blush

I can't slow dance at all. I can barely dance normally. There'll be no dance with just us - our first dance will be everybody dancing.

cookielove · 31/10/2012 20:09

Ooh we had a rubbish first dance me and dh shufffling round the dance floor, half way through DH asked if was tired, me: erm yes why? DH: cause your hurting my shoulders leaning on me!! Blush

Just got a fab email, my photo album will be delivered tomorrow Grin

ViviPru · 31/10/2012 20:51

OOOooooh! That's exciting, cookie! who did you use for your photography?

TitHead · 31/10/2012 21:18

Hi I've got now self restraint at all. In fact it's possible I may burst before then. I am going to be walking down to Just the way you are by Bruno Mars. Exit to Jason Mraz I'm yours and first dance to Lone star Amazed. I'm also having a first dance with my dad. Heartland I loved her first. Although I'm not supposed to know the song.

cookielove · 31/10/2012 21:23

i used Samantha Ingamells she was wonderful. It's not on her website any more but she took a shot of a little boy bending over a candle (looking so cute) and i knew i wanted her. And she really did a wonderful job. I am so excited!!

NumTum7 · 01/11/2012 17:15

exciting news cookielove must be my turn next - can't wait!!

Our ceremony music was all by Vitamin String Quartet (they do loads of covers of modern songs - great if you want a non-classical song but done in that style) walked in to Sweet Child of Mine, out to I Believe in a Thing Called Love, and Chasing Cars for signing the register. Then just chose some other stuff for before the ceremony - just filled a cd. We had Adele - Make You Feel My Love for our first dance followed by Bruno Mars - Marry You [hsmile]

ViviPru · 01/11/2012 18:26

For some reason I first read that Vietnam String Quartet Confused

cookielove · 01/11/2012 21:43

Oh, goodness, yes! Hope it went wonderfully, collie :)

Someone from this thread is getting married today, too, IIRC. No time to scroll just now, but have a lovely day if it's you!

Collie was pleased with her wedding speech, wasn't she?

TobyLerone · 04/11/2012 08:16

Anyone else having a little panic that the caterer/band won't turn up? I know it's daft, and they're reputable/well reviewed etc, but still...

How soon before the day do I confirm with them?

Just amrking place again so I can catch up later. Bloody half term

memphis83 · 05/11/2012 15:38

toby I think that is something everyone must be worried about. My biggest fear was the dress and with 18 months to my day I brought my dress home as my friend had her dress paid for in the wedding shop and there was a fire the week before so she had to find a dress with a week to go and she was a size 18 so struggled to get one to fit in time. My venue is ran by my neighbours and they have in house caterers so I haven't got that to worry about that.
Just bought some cups and saucers, I saw on rockmywedding a cake with the flowers in a cup and saucer on the top, looked really nice, I also want cups and saucers to have flowers and sweets in on the tables so looking for nice ones and picking them up when I see them.

ViviPru · 05/11/2012 15:57

My biggest fear is that there will be torrential rain and we'll be flooded out. I'm prepared for a downpour, and it wouldn't be the end of the world if it did rain, but it will be bloody miserable if there is very heavy rain and strong wind all day. That would be pretty disastrous actually Sad

RedGreenRouge · 05/11/2012 16:04

I'm worried that I will forget to book a caterer and band.

TobyLerone · 05/11/2012 16:22

Balls. That reminds me. I need to count how many cups and saucers I have, and buy however many more I need.

Oddly, I couldn't give a shite about the dress. When If ever I watch Bridezillas or DTTB and they're mainly stressing about the dress, that's always the part I understand least. I just don't care enough. I'm pretty sure I could go out the day before and buy something to wear if the worst happened.

Rain would be pretty crap. Our venue is all inside, so not the end of the world if it rained, but my event manager is hoping to turf everyone outside for photos after the ceremony so she can set the tables up. Also, the surrounding countryside is gorgeous, so it would be nice to get out and get some pictures done. It will be January, though, so I know it's asking a lot!
Vivi, I'm sure May will be gorgeous weather :)

:o RGR. I'm amazed I managed to get that far!

Toby, clothes are probably the most important thing at our wedding. Grin Speaking of which, I had my first bridezilla test yesterday. My best man's boyfriend told us about a leather suit he had seen and bought for our wedding. I was unsure for a moment - my parents will be there! - but I think I passed.

louiespence · 05/11/2012 17:28

Hi everyone!

I went to 2 wedding fayres at the weekend, so I am getting a better idea of what I want now, or at least I am narrowing it down when I see what I definitely don't want!

We have made an appointment to go and speak to a venue that we like, but it all depends on what dates they have available, although I am very flexible about the month I have my heart set on a Saturday and really want to do it within the next year. We have made a list of 50 must-have guests, and will probably just have those to the whole day, instead of having extra guests to an evening buffet/disco. Just hope I don't upset anyone who may have expected an invite but isn't getting one!

I think I want a simple dress, no bridesmaids, favours or flowers (except for maybe a bouquet for me to carry). I have asked a friend to make the cake. Something I would love to have is live music in the evening, but I haven't looked into it at all. And I need a photographer too.

There s probably loads I haven't thought of, but want to do it quickly and as cheaply as possible, and keep it simple where we can!

memphis83 · 05/11/2012 19:06

toby I am more bothered about invites and favours than my dress but as I really wasn't into dress shopping (bought the first and only dress I tried on in the only bridal shop I have been in) I wouldn't want to have to do it again. People have said to me what if I go off my dress... I assured them I don't care enough to go off it.
louie where were the wedding fairs? I am going to one in Markfield in 2 weeks as dp's uncle works there and says there are 3 photographers so want to have a nosey

TobyLerone · 05/11/2012 19:16

Ha! memphis, that is exactly what I did. I bought the first one I tried on in the only shop I went in. I was just saying to my mum the other day that I just don't care about my dress either way. I don't love it and I don't hate it. Everyone else loves it. And DP will love it.

I feel a bit more normal now :)

louie, your wedding sounds like it will be lovely.
