Summer 2026 (1st June ~ start of meteorological Summer)

Yesterday (1st June) marked the start of meteorological summer (and the high temperatures last week were hot enough for some and enough to last the year!)

At the moment, the GFS thinks the first 10 days of June are looking unsettled and changeable, then slightly drier/warmer towards the end of next week but the unsettled theme still continues until the middle of the month.

Thoughts from Netweather (from a few days ago) and TheWeatherOutlook on what summer might have in store for us.

An early look ahead at what the UK summer may have in store

Ahead of the full summer forecast, an early look at what summer could have in store. One factor is a developing strong El Nino, which may have some influence.

Yes, we have today & tomorrow and then the temperature here shoots back up.

RafaistheKingofClay · 06/08/2026 10:52

I am not made for temps above 25. Enjoying these 3 days while I can.

Looks like we have another day of greyish clouds delivering nothing.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 06/08/2026 12:08

Yes, it is lovely here today, and was yesterday. I get way more done! Still praying for rain though.

justasking111 · 06/08/2026 13:46

Heavily overcast here so the butter is firm.

PaperTyger · 06/08/2026 17:40

No rain here at all ,no rain in near forecast

It looks to be 33 /31 here on wed south east
.
Is this the super el nino and will it mean a colder winter wind even hotter summer next year ?

RafaistheKingofClay · 06/08/2026 17:57

I don’t think this is the super El Niño from what I’ve read.

I’m just thinking back to the winter thread where I was counting the number of continuous days of rain we had. Now I’m counting the days without any rain.

Dragonfly97 · 06/08/2026 18:13

We used to have a nice temperate climate; now it seems to be all extremes, so much rain last winter, our fence had a fine green mould on it for months.

The constant heat and dry weather this summer has been awful; I've just bought some foil blankets off Amazon and if it's as hot ( or worse) next summer, I'm covering every bloody window with them. I don't know what else to do.

MotherOfCatBoy · 06/08/2026 21:33

@EmeraldRoulette we are v near Cardiff so you can message me if you have questions

Today has been nice low 20s with a breeze and some cloud, lovely and fresh in the morning.

justasking111 · 06/08/2026 22:17

Gosh it's actually cold out 🥶. Just let a howling cat in. It's 13c!!!

EmeraldRoulette · 06/08/2026 22:24

@MotherOfCatBoy thank you that's really kind

I'm not going anywhere anywhere this weekend because it's too short notice and tbh i'm not keen on travel just to get a couple of days break.

Also, I'm hoping it will change, but there's a 33 possibility for Wednesday and Thursday

So I've got to deal with that anyway.

BatshitCrazyWoman · Yesterday 06:11

It's 9 degrees here this morning, and actually feels a bit chilly! Lovely 🙂

GloriaSmud · Yesterday 06:38

We've got a nice 10C here this morning as well. Despite the daytime heat during the heatwaves we've had this summer, we've had a few nights when it's been uncomfortable but most of the time, the nighttime temperatures have been ok for sleeping here in the E. Midlands.

Chilly yesterday and last night, but back to lovely sunshine this morning 🌄

justasking111 · Yesterday 08:13

All these low temperatures. What a great start to the day.

socks1107 · Yesterday 08:18

We actually slept with no fan on last night! Amazing. Looks like it’ll be back in by Sunday though! This summer feels never ending, I don’t like to moan but the 30s in these continuous waves is becoming both boring and exhausting:

Delatron · Yesterday 08:29

Ah the one day cool down was a brief respite! My feet were actually a bit cold last night and no fan!

Today looks nice - 24 down here so perfect for me though the background lack of rain and stress about that mean I don’t really even enjoy the pleasant days anymore. Plus knowing we’re back up to 30 and not sleeping well very soon. And the ridiculously early dog walks. I may never moan about winter again! (I will).

BatshitCrazyWoman · Yesterday 08:56

I'm also concerned about the drought @Delatron I'm getting a bit of a strength workout carrying watering cans full of water up and down the garden 💪🏻

I'm still praying for rain. And a lovely thunderstorm (because I love them!). It's so dull having the same weather all the time.

RafaistheKingofClay · Yesterday 09:09

I’ve taken to sleeping with a half filled frozen hot water bottle at night. I’m going to miss it when the bedroom eventually cools down. 😂 Having said that is 20 in here for the first time in over a month this morning. Just in time for it to warm up again. Might be tempted to get up and go for a walk at 6/7am tomorrow just to remind myself what 8 degrees feels like.

backformoreofthesame · Yesterday 09:57

Mother hadn’t bothered to actually turn the heating off - it’s on a thermostat- and it was belting out this morning !

RafaistheKingofClay · Yesterday 10:19

What’s she got the thermostat set at? Hotter than the centre of the sun?

RafaistheKingofClay · Yesterday 10:26

I assume all the climate change denialists will be looking at the trees and shouting ‘it’s called autumn’ and ignoring the fact that they started going yellow/brown in the last week of July.

Delatron · Yesterday 11:34

Yes @BatshitCrazyWoman me too - it’s a proper workout watering the garden and takes me about half an hour!
