Summer 2026 (1st June ~ start of meteorological Summer)

Yesterday (1st June) marked the start of meteorological summer (and the high temperatures last week were hot enough for some and enough to last the year!)

At the moment, the GFS thinks the first 10 days of June are looking unsettled and changeable, then slightly drier/warmer towards the end of next week but the unsettled theme still continues until the middle of the month.

Thoughts from Netweather (from a few days ago) and TheWeatherOutlook on what summer might have in store for us.

We had similar @RafaistheKingofClay, and it's now very windy, and does feel much fresher. I noticed that the Met Office app is forecasting 30 at the weekend. I do hope that changes (downward!) by the time it comes around.

I think we need the on and off rain first. Torrential rain will cause flooding given we haven’t had any real rain since the start of June.

I swear the trees and hedgerows are looking more and more brown by the hour. I’m sure there was less brown on the bus ride into work.

We had rain all day on Sunday 26th, quite a bit overnight and all morning yesterday and a couple of decent spells today. The front gardens are starting to finally green up a bit.

My hands are cold, I've just put a dressing gown on over my summer dress. DH is wearing a jumper. It's windy, dark skies with soft rain. Proper Welsh weather for August.

@GloriaSmud unless they revised average temperatures for the Southeast, that's not at all what I have?

@InMySpareTime that amount of greenery is absolutely shocking to my eye! 😂 we don't have any of that round here!

I think a trip to Wales might be in order for me and I'm not kidding. The places in Wales that I already know and like, they are a long journey from here. Maybe Cardiff? I've never been. Less than two hours

Just make sure there's no rugby on. Hotel rates go up.

All the forecasts are different for the SE by about 4-5 degrees for this weekend which is a huge difference. Do I believe 24 or 28/29! So hard to plan anything. From what I understand the wind was supposed to swing round from the West but now it might not be.

Next Wednesday looks 31 again.

At least it looks clear for the partial eclipse next Wednesday, it is a bit hot though. We had a downpour this morning, first for weeks and the roads went all frothy with all the crud and diesel on them.

@justasking111 thank you. I would have no idea what else to look out for. It's good to know this stuff. I could go somewhere quiet, but I just thought this might be good because it's a short journey. And I've never been.

heat bump for next week was forecast by my amateur contact - he's good.

It's a lot further south than us so I would check the temperatures. Cities being built up are warmer. It's on the coast though so should be breezy

@EmeraldRoulette ~ it was looking 'about average' (maybe slightly warmer than 'average') earlier on but I've just looked at the GFS and it's showing low-mid 30sC for next week so it looks like the last run revised things upwards <weeps and whimpers again and hopes it's the GFS overdoing things>

As I typed previous post a wind has sprung up bringing very heavy rain.

Met office have us as 21/22 but feeling cooler until Saturday then heating up to mid 20s and 27 by Tuesday. Which puts us back into heatwave territory here.

But seriously, I can't believe I'm considering this again - it's ridiculous - but the days just feel like weeks at the moment.

One of the neighbours was saying he's slightly worried he's going to go mad and attack the wall with a sledgehammer to see if he can remove thermal bricks. The way the place is built I think the entire thing would fall down? I mean the thermal bricks are literally part of the fabric of the place.

The communal halls are even more shocking because there's no windows. It's boiling in here, then you open the door and going to the hallway and it's like another circle of hell.

Hotel prices shocked me in the cities. I think I'd head for Yorkshire, Northumberland area on a train. Here we have lovely B&Bs which are nicer than many hotels.

reality is short journeys mean same weather. Sigh.

Woke up and felt cold. 17 degrees. Makes a change, but I see the forecast is a return to hot on Wednesday.
