1st March ~ start of a new season. After the rather wet winter for some areas, let's hope for something drier over the next few months.

Some thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook.

We had some very intense hail! And then when the sun comes out it warms up. But the air is very cold.

Pixiedust1234 · 13/05/2026 11:34

I've had to have the heating on the last two nights, even the cat was complaining bitterly about it. Also had the very heavy rain which is making the house feel damp 😫

It's May. I want warmth.

trying29 · 13/05/2026 11:37

forward look on netweather looks like it will get very hot in the south east from next week onwards

GloriaSmud · 13/05/2026 11:55

The Netweather radar shows there are quite a lot of showers about ~ I should think most people will catch one of those today!

And trying29 is right ~ it's looking like a bit of a warm up for quite a lot of the country towards the end of next week.

I'm just remembering a mad thread last year where there'd been a few nice weeks at start of May and it had returned to mid teens temperatures, and this poster seemed convinced that 'summer was over' and that was all the good weather we were going to get for the rest of the year. So of course everyone quite rightly replied that a) it wasn't even summer yet and b) weather can improve!

justasking111 · 13/05/2026 13:37

We've got southerly winds coming but plenty of rain.

It looks lovely and sunny outside this morning but unfortunately I'm too shattered to appreciate it. The cat was sucking warmth out of me all last night because it was so cold. I tried offering my hot bottle but nope, she had to be between my legs so I couldn't move 😩

GloriaSmud · 17/05/2026 19:45

A bit of a showery week ahead but next weekend (although there's still a bit of uncertainty), it's looking like there'll be a taste of summer, with temperatures for most of England and Wales heading towards the mid 20s (the south/SE could see 25-27C.) So good weather for the Bank Holiday but it looks like it's back to unsettled weather the rest of the week...

Thanks @GloriaSmud I’m very excited about some warm temperatures after this cold spell!

justasking111 · 17/05/2026 20:34

We don't get above 19c but I'm happy with that.

GloriaSmud · 18/05/2026 06:28

May is very much a mixed month but I'm quite enjoying this one ~ it's been the right mix for us of rain (keeps gardeners happy and my water butts are beginning to fill up again!) and sun. It's been chilly at times but there hasn't been too much of the dull and grey that comes with those days.

Delatron · 18/05/2026 08:20

Agreed - even when the forecast has not looked great and it’s been a bit chilly we have seen some bursts of sun. And the sun does have warmth to it at this time of year. Makes dressing correctly a challenge. But no it hasn’t been too bad.

Met office forecasting 5 days of 29 in London which is a huge change! Great if the weather lasts for half term

Delatron · 19/05/2026 16:35

It will be a shock to the system- gotta love this county going from 12 degrees to 28 in the space of about a week.

Personally I love it around 25 degrees but I shan’t complain after all this cold weather

justasking111 · 19/05/2026 16:59

My youngest is coming home this weekend has been buried in his finals. We haven't seen him since February. I'm so glad the weather forecast is better.

GloriaSmud · 20/05/2026 06:55

So it's looking like a decent Bank Holiday for all and it looks like it's going to last for a few days after that as well. At the moment, the GFS is forecasting a cool down (with thunderstorms) late Wednesday/Thursday next week but that's a way ahead....

The forecast for London is mad! I’m freezing today in a jumper and slippers then next week it looks baking. A bit of a gradual warm up would’ve been nice but I’m not complaining it’s going to be gorgeous for a good few days

I wonder what is the UK’s largest temperature range for May, this month should be a good contender for that accolade, it got pretty cold for a bit before heating up again.

gingercat02 · Yesterday 07:15

It's currently raining here. I'm not convinced by the heatwave chat for us up north!

GloriaSmud · Yesterday 17:28

gingercat02 ~ you might get 20-24C over the weekend/Bank Holiday Monday. so not too bad...

The metoffice are forecasting 30C for us, for Monday now ~ there'll be lots of watering being done at the allotment next week...

We had rain today at the sports day everyone was well wrapped up having seen the forecast I guess.
