The Mirror are predicting we will be blasted with cold weather for 90 hours 4/5 January. Any wise people know how likely this is?

If it could wait until I go back to work that would be lovely. I do like a snow day - although it does play havoc on the farm - having to feed all the animals can be a chore in the snow!!

I’m driving north eastern Scotland to southern England around the 5th, so would prefer snow holds off a bit. Not that I can influence the weather at all.

I saw a weather report from the USA earlier this morning saying that snow is expected in New York State. So if that weather system came across the Atlantic and got to us, rather than going north to Iceland, then I suppose we could get snow.

notimagain · 26/12/2025 11:09

Might happen, worth keeping an eye on but the confidence level for a forecast that far ahead would I'd suggest be pretty low.

nannynick · 28/12/2025 07:54

Metoffice app is showing snow for me (NE Scotland) on Fri & Sat. However it’s a way off yet so will probably change.

aracena · 29/12/2025 09:37

Gosh I’m really hoping it will hold off. Currently the BBC is forecasting snow for Gatwick on 3rd when I’ll be arriving back from Spain and having to drive home to near the Sussex coast late at night. I love snow but hate driving in it!

Peaks and Tameside Weather poster on FB is gearing up - measured response and says biggest concern is that we have not had weather like this in over a decade so people will underestimate it

Oh please Christmas Gods let it be on the evening of the 4th so I don't have to go back to work

ChrimboLimbo · 29/12/2025 10:44

Snow is the only time where having a job that you can't work from home is good

WhateverTarrance · 29/12/2025 10:45

The met office has snow weather warning for Scotland... I gess the rest will be icy sleet and rain with some snow overnight.

But then it's the weather, and things can change quickly...

Lots of groaning mums here school will almost certainly be shut if the forecast is correct

AgnesX · 29/12/2025 14:54

The Mirror carries this tripe for the entire winter season. Predictably it snows for 5 minutes at some point so they can claim they're right.

None of our schools have ever shut in the 11 years DD has been of school / nursery age. Not even during a Red weather warning (storm Arwen, I think) NE England here and we are largely forgotten about in both the National weather forecast and by our local council.

Checking in, my favourite thing! ❄️

Isekaied · 29/12/2025 21:01

Looks like snow where I am next week

I hope it doesn't.

I don't have a choice in whether I go to work or not.

So really don't wanna be driving in that weather

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/12/2025 10:50

Hopeful placemark. Friday would be great. I don’t really want to go into work that day and I couldn’t book it off.

I presume because the headline 'It's winter! It might snow a bit at some point!' wouldn't really shift papers. But it is so annoying when they do this. The Express, for some reason, seems to be the worst, forecasting 'Beast From the East!' every time the wind changes direction.

HollyGolightly4 · 31/12/2025 10:16

I'd really love some snow ❄️ it would brighten up January for me!

ComplexSatsuma · 31/12/2025 11:03

Was hoping for snow in Essex but it's disappeared off of the weather map now 😥 haven't had snow here for about 5 years!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 31/12/2025 12:53

It feels cold enough to snow. I live in a vale where if it does snow heavily it’s hard to walk up and down the ungritted hills.

nannynick · 01/01/2026 10:09

Snowing in NE Scotland coast. Just light at the moment, making surfaces wet, no accumulation.

RaraRachael · 01/01/2026 10:57

NE Scotland here. No snow but we're on the coast so rarely get any. My son loves 2 miles away up country and has heavy snow.

SusanSocks · 01/01/2026 10:59

the amber health warning is of concern to me

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 01/01/2026 10:59

I'm deeply ashamed at the Met Office, whose long range forecast for my area is predicting 'artic airflows'. If one lorry comes anywhere near me, I will not be responsible for my actions.
