The start of meteorological Summer 2025 (1st June)

This weekend sees the start of meteorological summer.
Netweather haven't got their summer forecast yet but have some thoughts here on what sort of summer we might expect.

TheWeatherOutlook published their summer forecast a few weeks ago.

(I think that although we've had a dry spring, it'll be a 'mixed' summer of dry/warm (maybe hot days), mixed in with wet days. So we'll see......)

Unsettled start to June likely, but how may the rest of summer play out?

Ahead of the Netweather Summer 2025 forecast, we look at some the clues that point to how the summer may turn out after a likely unsettled start to June.

OH that's silly hot 🥵 for many.

Delatron · 06/07/2025 11:57

Most forecasts are sticking with top temperatures of around 30/31 in the SE. Which although still a bit too warm is more tolerable than ridiculously high late 30s where you just can’t do anything. Hope it doesn’t change.

The worry is that there’s no cool down or rain really as far as I can see on all the forecasts going up until the 19th July.

gingercat02 · 06/07/2025 12:13

Temp differences are amazing in such a small country as England. It's 18-22 up here on the NE coast next week

TheSalmonMousse · 06/07/2025 13:20

We've had a few drops of rain in Hampshire. It's not been enough to water the plants but the bees suddenly look more enthusiastic.

socks1107 · 06/07/2025 14:02

The lack of rain is crazy, our garden is really suffering and that’s just a tiny patch.
low 30s is just about ok, I don’t look forward to it but I can manage. I did not want 40!

justasking111 · 06/07/2025 19:25

DH cut a lot of hedging this week was lying on the ground for the grandchildren to pickup and put in the bins. It rained hard last night so is a soggy mess.

Heavy clouds all day today. No idea what next week will bring, did see one thunderstorm warning. We're not getting heatwave messages.

GloriaSmud · 07/07/2025 11:28

We've had quite a bit of rain over the last 2 days here and was amazed to get back from being away (had a lovely week away on the Suffolk coast!), to find the allotment had survived and crops are growing merrily away!

Temperatures look like they're on the rise as we go through this week towards the weekend but 30/31C (maybe a 32C towards the west Midlands/welsh border) looks like the highest it'll get to. It looks like for the beginning of the week, only the midlands/the south will be affected but from Thursday onwards, heat builds for the north and Scotland.

This might be worth keeping an eye on for health heat alerts.

after posting yesterday it’s really rained here! The garden has had a great soaking and it’s quite cool again. Will be warm end of the week though then we go on holiday where the forecast is warm and rain shower - my absolute worst sort of weather. Frizzy hair, feel an absolute mess and sticky clothes. Should be grateful I’m going away but not really feeling it now I’ll look a mess and be dodging showers all week

Aw sorry Socks. UK or abroad?

I'm heading up north later this week

I could stay an extra couple of days in order to avoid returning to the sauna that is my flat. I haven't found a hotel that isn't full though, but maybe it'll be easier when I get there. When I was booking, I did look to see what it would be like to add Saturday at least, but so many places have no availability for Saturday and probably Sunday as well.

I would quite like to spend a couple of extra days exploring the coast but I'm not a big fan of going away on my own. However, at the moment Northumberland is showing 26° for Friday. The guest house I'm currently booked in doesn't have air-conditioning! But it's an old building so it can't possibly be as bad as my flat.

I have already booked my train ticket home so that would be money down the drain. It's just so tempting to try and avoid another heat wave here!

today has been lovely - 25 and breezy. Of course I was just working, and had a short walk at lunchtime.

justasking111 · 07/07/2025 19:53

Have a lovely break Emerald.

It's like September here, cool at night, chilly by morning. Warm by lunchtime and cool again this evening. Just my kind of weather.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 07/07/2025 20:07

Trying to find my usual wind speed map and can't remember what I usually use. Does anyone have any recommendations?

The wind seems crazy here on the NE coast of England right now. I watered the garden early (as much as I could) then shut the back door and gave up.

gingercat02 · 07/07/2025 20:15

It is madly windy @RainbowZebraWarrior, we have just had a mini storm.
@EmeraldRoulette, we are on the southern edge of Northumberland, it says 20-21 at the end of the week. I was in Alnwick today for work and was glad I took my fleece. I wouldn't worry about the lack of air-con, particularly near the coast.

Yes, we seem to be having a mini storm, too. Just looked at the rain radar, and this is right over us right now.

@gingercat02 I tend to feel the cold a lot more than most people

Wondering if I should take my light raincoat. I'm going to look bonkers if I wear it on the train getting on at London 😂 but I might need it, especially by the sea.

given what it's been like here, if I arrive and it's 20 or 21 and breezy, that will be quite a change! To me, 20° is light coat or jacket weather.

I really wouldn't complain about 30°, if I wasn't in a boiling hot flat. It's gone down to 26°. I've got the balcony door wide open.

socks1107 · 07/07/2025 21:51

@justasking111 abroad, not a beach destination but still Europe. It’s now showing rain every single day! We went to Seville last summer, expecting heat and sunshine. It rained every day there too

So warm but wet. Showers hopefully.

This is the one I look at occasionally, after it being posted on here a while ago. Spin the globe, zoom in and have fun!

What's yellow though @GloriaSmud ?

I'm guessing Wales sank into the Irish sea 🤣

Delatron · 08/07/2025 14:04

Thanks @GloriaSmud I guess what is different about this heatwave is the length of time it looks to be lasting for.

Surprised there’s no hosepipe ban yet. I guess it won’t be long. The grease round here is very brown!

GloriaSmud · 08/07/2025 14:22

justasking111 ~ Bit of an explanation here on weather health alerts.
(Is it possible Wales might have its own alert system?)

Yes Delatron, despite some good rainfall over the last few days, the grass is still looking very brown here!

Not a big fan of those impact matrices

I'm a bit puzzled because the temps have been reduced a bit on the sites I use. That's for the weekend and Monday. They were showing 32 and now reduced to 29, which would be better.

I don't know if they only issue the warning thing, or the information thing, the day before?

However, I'm also seeing reduced temperatures for today. Had a lovely long walk at lunchtime but it was probably about 26° - not the predicted 23.

Delatron · 08/07/2025 18:53

Spoke to soon about the hosepipe ban. See Yorkshire are implementing one from Friday 11th. I guess other regions won’t be too far behind.
