Thought I’d start an early thread on this. Friday looks very blowy here in Wales. We currently have a yellow warning, waiting to see if it’s upgraded.

Ooh @justasking111 how are you tracking it? Is this an app?

NC28 · 23/01/2025 20:57

Red alert here in Glasgow. Schools, nurseries, clubs, offices etc all closed tomorrow.

I’ve shifted the wheelie bins to behind the shed where they hopefully won’t get knocked over. Not much else I can do, I think.

Hopefully no power cuts. We’ve all charged our power banks just in case.

Very sceptical this will be anything other than a normal bad winter storm that is expected at this time of year.
Here we have had several yellow warnings over the last year or two and other than a bit of ordinary winter weather they were nothing out of the ordinary.
The Met Office seems to like crying wolf nowadays imo.

A red warning has a a much higher likelihood of a much higher impact than a yellow one. Surely the yellow/amber/red system isn't that difficult to decipher?

What are the National Severe Weather Warning Service Impact tables?

We're feeling the edge of it now in Cork.

Caerulea · 23/01/2025 21:10

Good luck to all of you in the firing line of this one 🤞

pippapipps · 23/01/2025 21:12

Wind howling down the chimney now starting to pick up already ..in Ireland we are on the coast

AnneShirleysNewDress · 23/01/2025 21:16

Hoping everyone on here stays safe and we all get through unscathed.

onemorerose · 23/01/2025 21:19

When is the worst expected to hit Cork? I’m in NI and praying it’s not as bad as predicted.

North East, inland. Amber warning. I have a stairlift and a power chair. I’m stuffed if the leccy goes. I can only charge it so much.
Also concerned about the woods at the back of me!

Hope you stay safe my lovely and don't have any power cuts. Thinking of you and sending lots of love x

feartybrearty · 23/01/2025 21:21

we have to go to work in central scotland, all patients are cancelled but we have to head in and sit about doing nothing, bloody nhs management 😡

Some people can't see past their own noses and can't even begin to think of the wider picture.

Hope everyone stays safe x

Red warning from 2am-10am.
Best wishes!

ProbableDoris · 23/01/2025 21:24

Good luck to everyone in the red and amber warning areas. I work in Bodmin and had the mini tornado go past our building this morning!

Is it NHS? My mum's NHS and there's no trains running but she's to go in. So she will need to do like 3 buses and hope she gets there by 8am 🙈

feartybrearty · 23/01/2025 21:39

yes it sure is nhs 😡 defo not essential
though and there are volunteers to cover any emergencies so we will
all be sitting around doing nothing 😡

Seeingadistance · 23/01/2025 21:39

There was a message that came with the siren alert, but it vanished and I can't find it again. Does anyone know where it went and how to find it again?

Figgygal · 23/01/2025 21:39

We had a red warning in December and then nothing more than a normal winter storm day, fingers crossed it's not so bad for you all.
Our forecast is SW is sunny and gentle breeze the next 2 days - can't believe it

It's in your settings - if you Google your phone there will be instructions.

Hi all, I'm in Sussex along the coast. A bit worried about my 12 year old going to school tomorrow - she gets the bus but has to walk some of the way (two buses). Predicted around 55 MPH winds. I realise this is not as bad as some of you are getting but how would you feel about your kid getting themselves to school in this situation? I don't drive so can't take her in that way. Wondering if she should leave it until a bit later in the morning when the winds have settled. Or am I being a huge wimp!?

TorturedPoetDepartment · 23/01/2025 21:51

Red area here (Edinburgh) - just had an email regarding all Tesco's in the area closing. Local M&S is too. Thankfully don't need anything urgent before the weekend!

Stay safe everyone!

Edited

We’ve just had the same email from them.

Glad they’re being sensible.

Dabralor · 23/01/2025 21:53

Britain and Ireland both so vulnerable in that pic - we are just sat there while this storm barrels straight for us. Yikes! Take care everyone 🙏🏼
