I've got my power cut kit ready too. Power used to go out really easily here, but they've worked on the infrastructure and its less flakey now.

South West London very very windy. Dustbins and fence panels likely to break and the odd tree especially as the ground is so waterlogged. Our dog hates this wind and getting cold, soggy feet.

JustHereWithMyPumpkin · 02/01/2024 15:42

I'm in the Chilterns and the wind has suddenly picked up very fast. I'm trying to decide where to move my car to - one side of the drive has trees the other side has a big old cat slide roof with old clay tiles. The wind is whistling in the hous and blowing madly outside. No rain now but loads this morning.

JustHereWithMyPumpkin · 02/01/2024 15:43

We have overhead power cables and I have the slow cooker on. I'm guessing dinner will be ruined.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 02/01/2024 15:48

Sudden lull in the wind here in north Wiltshire, it was howling for the last hour or more. DH and dog did a very quick walk after nearly getting hit by a falling fence!
wind gives me a headache. It’s blown our very heavy swinging chair around and across the patio, normally DH and I can’t even lift it.

Lonelycrab · 02/01/2024 15:51

North Hampshire and it’s easing off a little. It went from pretty calm to almost hurricane force (well not quite but you get the idea) in about 15 mins around about 1pm. Garden fence currently being propped up by my two garden rakes and a wheelbarrow. Let’s hope it holds 🤞🤞

MrsGasManridesagain · 02/01/2024 15:53

Daughter and I went to Legoland today. We have passes and it's only 20 mins away so I thought we'd just do indoor stuff. Actually hardly a breath of wind and we had a great day. I was thinking well some storm eh?! Then in the space of 10 minutes about an hour ago it went crazy! I'll be so glad when eldest gets home from school.

MrsGasManridesagain · 02/01/2024 15:57

Well she's back, wind blew her off her bike! She's only diddy but 😯

JenniferBooth · 02/01/2024 15:58

Wind has just hit Braintree

piscofrisco · 02/01/2024 15:59

Suddenly picked up in East Herts. It's knocked my wifi out. Good, was not feeling being back at work today! (Wfh)

CaveMum · 02/01/2024 16:01

East Anglia here, very heavy rain until about 1pm and now it's a bit breezy but by no means "windy" - it was far worse a few days ago when you could hardly stand up straight if you made the mistake of standing up in an open area (lots of those around the Fens here!).

I am going to go out and get the bin in now that it's been collected though, I don't want to have to go searching for it in the dark if the wind does pick up!

lavenderlou · 02/01/2024 16:04

Also E.Anglia (towards the west of the region). In the last half hour the wind has really picked up.

JenniferBooth · 02/01/2024 16:05

Lights flickering already. That didnt take long FFS

HappyNewYears · 02/01/2024 16:06

Cheshire here and whilst I’ve seen it raining steadily all day I was surprised by the state of the roads when I had to go out. I think I was lucky to get through one of the floods.

PatriciaHolm · 02/01/2024 16:08

Currently sat on a plan in Berlin and have just been told the wind is gusting at 60knots plus in city so we aren't going anywhere for now...

Apparently it's due to calm down a bit by 6 UK time...

Iamacatslave · 02/01/2024 16:10

Lights flickering here in Surrey.

rockingbird · 02/01/2024 16:11

Netweather's thoughts on Storm Henk.

Awful here (Leicester.) We're under yellow warnings for wind and rain but so far, it's just been heavy rain.

Like others, I'm so fed up of waterlogged places ~ this is where we attempted to walk FosterDog yesterday. That path that disappears under water, usually goes off into the distance and it's green meadows either side. At the moment, it's a lake and there were swans swimming on it yesterday!

We're in Nottingham and we were one of the few in our street who didn't flood from street level water during Babet... but we had about 5feet of it came up through the cellar, and the water table is so bloody soggy now that it doesn't take much at all for us to end up with a good few inches in the cellar.

Insurance are going to re-water proof it and do it all back up, but can't do much until the levels drop off in the spring, and Cindy the Cellar Pump, that we bought in the aftermath, has been doing epic service off and on since then.

The fields are all just absolutely saturated when you go up to particularly the north of the county - there's nowhere for any of the new water to go!

Deathbyathousandcats · 02/01/2024 16:12

Blowing a gale here near Rugby, and we’re only in the yellow area.

EasternStandard · 02/01/2024 16:12

Very wild here on the Romney Marshes in Kent. We are only yellow warning but I don't recall this much wind for a very long time.

Oh I love Romney Marsh .

Keep Safe as its very very open isn't it?
I seem to like flat as like Lincolnshire too
