Well it's meant to be the height of the wind here but it's blue skies now and a slight breeze. Maybe the path of the storm is further south or north? Or my house is somehow sheltered. Weird.

SausageAndEggSandwich · 02/01/2024 14:09

Very windy in east Devon. The lamp post across the road has been wobbling 😮

It's training night for my running club later. Hoping I'm not going to get blown away.

It has stopped raining though, which is nice. Everything is wet, my garden is just a sodden sponge, I haven't run on trails since before Christmas as everything is just mud.

AdamRyan · 02/01/2024 14:13

It is so grim isn't it. Mud everywhere. Dog constantly smells of mud. Yuck.

inappropriateraspberry · 02/01/2024 14:17

Cornwall: We've had to chase our (and the neighbours') rubbish and recycling down the road! Put it all in our garage until the bin men arrived! Now waiting for the neighbours to come and claim their missing bags.
I got blown down the road and couldn't stop! There are trees down in the area and road accidents.

Exeter airport has seen a gust of 81mph and the Needles (very exposed) 92mph. Some very strong gusts likely in the amber area likely over the next few hours, including in London over early rush hour.

We re in the amber zone and there's not so much as a breeze atm. Very eerie.

Same - wet but no wind at all. We are to the East so thinking it must be coming later.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2024 14:29

The risk through the amber area will transfer eastwards as the centre of Storm Henk traverses the country. It is one of the issues of these larger warning areas. The gusts will also be 'lumpy' rather than one continuous howling gale.

I'm in North Hampshire and we have rapidly gone from calm to very gusty in the last 15 minutes! Some very tall clouds scooting over too.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 02/01/2024 14:37

I'm in Weston super mare, so in the amber warning. Just went to the cinema with my eldest, fine on the way in, saw the warning on my phone at the end as we were leaving and we practically got blown into the car park, people were clinging on to the wire fence outside for dear life.

Shellingbynight · 02/01/2024 14:38

I'm on the south coast (Sussex) and it has been very windy since about 1am, the noise of it woke me up. It's still very windy but I think the rain has finally just stopped. Some local roads are barely passable due to standing water.

countrygirl99 · 02/01/2024 14:45

Not windy in Bedfordshire yet but we have a river running through our (thankfully sloping) garden and need wellies to leave the house. Flooding on the High Street means is affecting 3 of the 4 ways out of the village so looks like I'll be going the long way round to the stables this evening. Still drivable with the right car but don't want to risk my Fiesta and bow waves also cause extra problems for the houses near the flooding.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2024 14:45

Think I'm going to lose a conifer. Hope I do anyway, I've been meaning to take it out. It was only supposed to be miniature, but like everything in my garden grows far beyond its predicted size.

Indeed. And I just know that by April South East Water will be saying "We've had a drier than usual March so we need a hosepipe ban."

Just getting my big FUCK OFF in, in advance.

And then the schools will lose water again and SE Water will act all surprised when headteachers hit the news to force them into action.

Timeturnerplease · 02/01/2024 14:52

We’re in East Sussex, near the Kent border, and currently sitting in our conservatory playroom. It sounds like the roof is going to fly off, and I’ve just had to go and lay the BBQ on its side before it falls over. Feeling very thankful that DH dug in and secured the trampoline last winter.

Hope this calms down by tomorrow. Teaching primary age children in the wind is like herding demented cats.

Wild, wet and windy in rural Herefordshire!

I'm in the yellow area, not far from Kent coast. The wind is the worst I can remember over the past month. Fences are swaying by a good 8 inches so I suspect a few broken posts. All sorts of weird creaky noises going off.
I'm in clay and there is just nowhere for the water to go plus Ditchwatch has started again.
This winter is beginning to seem like that of 2013-14 when I had just moved here from a big city - I spent most of January wondering what the hell I had done, looking out at floodwaters and downed branches.

Lets hope UK Power Networks performance doesnt match that of 2013/14 when there are power cuts

JenniferBooth · 02/01/2024 15:18

UK POWER NETWORKS GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK USELESS HEADS PEOPLE CANT KEEP CHECKING YOUR WEBSITE FOR UPDATES DURING A POWER CUT COS NO POWER MEANS NO INTERNET

Pascha · 02/01/2024 15:21

Very wild here on the Romney Marshes in Kent. We are only yellow warning but I don't recall this much wind for a very long time.

But there may still be mobile signal and therefore can use that to check websites.

Winds have arrived in London.

Sandsnake · 02/01/2024 15:26

Just lost two fence panels in Surrey. Very, very gusty indeed. I’m usually all over the weather but this storm has snuck up on me!

Nellieinthebarn · 02/01/2024 15:26

I'm in Forest of Dean, within the Amber area. They weren't kidding, its really windy, but the rain has just stopped, so I'm whipping the dog out quick. Still got power at the moment, but I've got extra logs in and checked the power cut kit just in case.

Decafflatteplease · 02/01/2024 15:32

We are in the yellow.area but it honestly hasn't stopped raining for around 2 weeks now. Our garden is basically a lake. Have a dehumidifier on upstairs most of the day and it's not getting below 62, shows how damp it is. (1800s house).

Took the DC to the park today and even with full on waterproofs and wellies they were still soaked underneath. Luckily we have a boot room to dry things in but I'm just so bored of the constant wet. I think even my bones feel damp 😂

Also as soon as they kids go back to school next week the forecast is ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
