Xmas Grin

Its that time of year again, when amateur meteorologists, weather enthusiasts, the generally interested and those that hate the concept of weather forecasting all gather to guess, ahem, forecast the weather for the Christmas week.

Now given that at the moment we don't know what the weather will be like in two weeks time, this is clearly rather a tall order at present! But we can give it a go.

At the moment looking at the GEFS 35 day ensembles, which is the only weather model I can view out to that time period, it looks chilly, but not snowy, nor wet, just generally settled conditions.

Merry Christmas everyone. It's a wet Christmas in Manchester. Grey and chucking it down, despite both my weather apps telling me it should be dry!

InMySpareTime · 25/12/2022 11:00

It was sunny first thing in my bit of Manchester anyway.

Eek! Snow and ice warnings out for tonight.

The Met office have declared it an official white Christmas. Apparently the sleet at Loch Glascarnoch this evening counts. Xmas Confused

Good morning to anyone who is still following.
An unsettled week to come. I'm particularly keeping an eye on a couple of potential low pressures next Friday and NYE to see what they might bring in terms of wind, rain and possible snow on their northern edges.

In the meantime we still have snow and ice warnings for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

A very Merry (belated) Christmas to @OhYouBadBadKitten and @GloriaSmud or in my native language, Nadolig Llawen.

It's 0 degrees here on the NE coast of England with a real feel of -3. And my goodness, am I feeling that cold. I'm 3 weeks into Covid and it's the gift that just keeps giving.

Hope everyone either enjoys the coming weather, or stays safe and warm.

Perihelion · 26/12/2022 22:37

Hope you all had a good Christmas. Horrible and rainy yesterday. Today had a brutal cold wind and we got some sleety snow in Edinburgh. Just walked back from a pal's house and it's getting really icey.

AuntieEntity · 27/12/2022 11:37

Rain and cold here in the middle of Wales today, which means DD and I can't promenade with her new pram and doll. I am thrilled to be at home & clearing up after Christmas, however, and getting ready for the next cold blast coming in. Santa bought some hot water bottles which I think will be needed!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2022 12:07

It does look grim up there Peri

more warnings for ice and also rain. www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2022-12-27

It just looks generally rather unpleasant through the rest of the week, with the potential for gales on Friday. Hill snow a continued theme in Scotland and perhaps northern England.
