Xmas Grin

Its that time of year again, when amateur meteorologists, weather enthusiasts, the generally interested and those that hate the concept of weather forecasting all gather to guess, ahem, forecast the weather for the Christmas week.

Now given that at the moment we don't know what the weather will be like in two weeks time, this is clearly rather a tall order at present! But we can give it a go.

At the moment looking at the GEFS 35 day ensembles, which is the only weather model I can view out to that time period, it looks chilly, but not snowy, nor wet, just generally settled conditions.

Oo, hello everyone ❄️🛷☃️

Thanks so much OYBBK 🥰

Hmm looking at the met office weather for my area a lot of signs of wind coming from the east and north in the next week, a hopeful sign?

Thick snow this year... I can feel it in my bones ❄️

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2022 10:16

Do you live in Canada AnotherCountryMummy? Xmas Grin

The GEFS control run shows a pretty cold Christmas with high pressure firmly in charge over northern britain and a cold airmass. The mean of the ensembles though is rather more circumspect with temperatures on the chilly side of average. What they are not showing is warm and wet. (yet!) So that's something! So to summarise, at the moment it's all looking pretty cold but too dry for snow.

hoochyhag certainly we have a pretty significant change underway this week, to chilly easterlies. There could be a fair bit of fog, low cloud and frost, entirely depending on where you live and which particular day it is. Perhaps some drizzle with the cloud. But not rain later on this week. Yay!

Thank you. The daily star has a beast from the east headline, so it must be true 😂

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2022 10:52

🤣

Why do they do this? Do they have a picture accompanying it of a fierce little hamster? That's about how beastly this easterly phase looks at the moment.

Last year I don't think we had any snow of any significance. Dd has just said she can't wait for it to snow. Two years ago we had some snow on Christmas Day but not much.

AriettyHomily · 28/11/2022 12:10

Following!

Too warm here still, at least it's not raining but I'm working in the loft room and have had to open up the windows.

FelizNavicrab · 28/11/2022 12:26

Following - and posting to say so, to try and keep the thread 'active' and visable Smile

Yay, the Christmas thread! Xmas Grin

Fog here (Leicester) this morning and the temperature went down to 4C.

Posted this on the winter thread but some thoughts from Netweather which includes December/the Christmas period.

AuntieEntity · 28/11/2022 23:15

I would be happy with cold and no rain for Christmas Day - might chase the snow in another country next year!

ShaunaTheSheep · 28/11/2022 23:20

Crisp dry and sunny please. Very little chance of snow here.
