This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

@pussycatunpickingcrossesagain there might be a few trampolines taking off!

Did you see the one that flew right in front of the train?

timewillhealabrokenheart · 17/02/2022 16:52

Kayjay2018 was that rescue featured on a tv programme?

I remember a very similar incident on a programme that used to be on back in the 90's, called 999 rescue I think with Michael Beurk?

Looks normal "really windy" rather than exceptionally "really windy"!

Doesn't seem to be much rain with this storm, touch wood.

Another tip from being in the red area during Storm Arwen, if you're in an area with old terraced houses, do not park your car near gable ends. We had a few come down onto cars in the streets.

Notonthestairs · 17/02/2022 16:57

Currently we have heavy rain forecast for Saturday but much lighter winds (18). Hopefully anything that has held together tomorrow will be fine for Saturday.

LadyFlumpalot · 17/02/2022 17:01

@Maireas

There'll be some poor correspondent in a North Face jacket with the hood up, trying to shout over the wind and pointing at waves.
Hopefully not getting full on face-smacked by a fish this time 🤣🤣
Inastatus · 17/02/2022 17:05

@LadyFlumpalot - hilarious 😂😂😂 Poor woman though!

Maireas · 17/02/2022 17:08

Poor woman!

HesterShaw1 · 17/02/2022 17:08

That really is the worst luck imaginable.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 17/02/2022 17:08

Poor fish! 😹

Photosymphysis · 17/02/2022 17:12

Just checking in. Schools here are closed tomorrow. I'm just outside the red zone.

CornishTiger · 17/02/2022 17:13

So what are you all doing to prepare?

I’ve tidied garden.
Cancelled Hospital appt.
Charging devices and radio.
Finding the torch!
Filling a huge flask with hot water because coffee in the morning will be my own emergency if power lines go.

We live in a very exposed area in the red zone. Im a bit concerned!

TheOnlyMrsW · 17/02/2022 17:13

@Trytobetoo East Lancashire here, it's been awful since the weekend and last night was really bad. Fairly calm now but the forecast for tomorrow looks fairly dicey with snow added into the mix

In case it's useful for anyone.

Doesn't mention trampolines - top priority in the garden for securing!

NoWordForFluffy · 17/02/2022 17:17

@Trytobetoo

Is anyone in Lancashire? Is it incredibly bad there?
Which bit of Lancs? I'm in north Sefton, right on the West Lancs border and we have a stuff breeze, but not as bad as we've had a fair few times recently. It's good drying weather!

Tomorrow is set for 60mph+ though.

GloriaSmud · 17/02/2022 17:21

Eunice showing up here.

Recycledblonde · 17/02/2022 17:23

Any update for the M3 corridor from Farnborough to Winchester from you lovely experts?
As far as I can work out it's going to be at it's worst from 5am onwards so I'll be driving at the peak. I only have to do a couple of miles at either end on non-motorway roads so I'm crossing everything that the motorways will be ok.
I've made sure my tyres are pumped up, I have warm clothes and my hi-vis plus coffee just in case I get stuck anywhere.

BewareTheLibrarians · 17/02/2022 17:25

BBC is predicting 70 mile an hour gusts at the time I have to drive to work tomorrow morning along a mix of tree lined country roads and unprotected open fen roads.

Met office has a slightly more respectable 50mph in the morning with a peak of 70 at lunchtime.

Either that’s going to be 45 minutes of white knuckle driving, or work will close. I’m hoping work will close, but I doubt they will.

The Bbc virtually always predict more extreme weather than the Met Office
Maireas · 17/02/2022 17:28
Does the green colour indicate wind strength?
withiceplease · 17/02/2022 17:30

@GloriaSmud - this is from a knowledge base of nil, but I think it looks like it's going more northerly than met office film warnings to me.
Fingers crossed
