:)

First proper potential for the winter on Friday - if you live in the Peak district and parts of Scotland. Grin

Ooh we have a snowflake on the weather forecast on my iPhone. It’s not particularly reliable but exciting to see nonetheless!

rhubarbcrumbles · 03/12/2019 08:02

Bernard it'd be true here as well.

cheninblanc · 03/12/2019 08:14

I like snow though I'm a bit worried about this one, we have a funeral, voting day, a sixth form college open evening, mock exams and a dh out on work drinks 😑. Add my work in.... Will be watching closely, the Friday would be good just not before!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/12/2019 11:57

I'd rather not have snow on election day for various living life reasons! but GFS is persistent in forecasting it!
Heres a snapshot for the evening of the 12th.

If it came off, I guess the count could be delayed in various constituencies.

None on that map for me, south east, but there is on my iPhone app!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/12/2019 12:07

Chenin, 6 hours later - it covers you.

If we expand beyond the election then the latest GFS run shows ridiculous amounts of snow for southern and central England - up to 40cm by Saturday 14th. Grin
Its gone totally Christmas crackers.

Friday 13th evening snow depth in cm according to the 06z gfs run.

Looking closer at the detail, on Thursday 12th not much settling is being shown. Phew!

My daughters 16th could be a snowy one off school then!

TokyoSushi · 03/12/2019 13:54

Oh my! PLEASE tell me OYBBK that the pink/red is snow! As you know I'm always desperate for it and hardly ever actually get any!

GloriaSmud · 03/12/2019 14:10

Yes, 'interesting' charts for next week - will be watching how those develop over the next few days!

Netweather's winter forecast.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/12/2019 14:18

It is Tokyo. The last chart with the numbers is predicted snow depth. It's a bit mad really and I expect it to back down a lot. As for the election day snow, let's see! Though not much would settle on the 11th/12th under that scenario.

Grin at the accumulated snow being 56cm.
That's hilarious and totally bonkers. I wouldn't pay much attention to it.

Hmm, I’m covered but only just. If it were to stay slightly further south it would miss us. Dh is working that weekend so if it does snow it needs to do it properly so that he’s stood down Xmas Grin

Delatron · 03/12/2019 15:18

AJ, our famous local Facebook weatherman is also on board for a ‘snow event’ on the 13th December. It’s quite exciting watching how it pans out. Snow is so tricky to forecast.

TokyoSushi · 03/12/2019 15:29

I'll just wait here then, quietly excited! Thank you!

EducatingArti · 03/12/2019 16:22

It looks like the Manchester snow shield is still operational from the maps you have posted!

rhubarbcrumbles · 03/12/2019 16:56

What is the Manchester snow shield?
We're under one of the dark pink areas.

Delatron · 03/12/2019 17:01

It’s a fictional ‘snow shield’ meaning it rarely snows in Manchester, even when everywhere else is getting snow. Mainly due to the geographical position of Manchester! West tends to get less snow than the East etc etc.

tapdancingmum · 03/12/2019 17:03

I saw AJ's post as well #delatron and thought I would mosey on over here to see if there was agreement. Seems like there is so will be a snowy birthday for my daughter (possibly) who never really has snow for her December birthday unlike her sister who was born in March.

Now to find the Christmas weather board as we are planning on going to the zoo again for my birthday (boxing day).

rhubarbcrumbles · 03/12/2019 17:06

@delatron thanks...I suppose that makes up for all of the rain Grin

I tend to get snow for my February birthday more than we get snow at Xmas.

EducatingArti · 03/12/2019 17:26

Manchester tends not to get snow, even when places equally west but North and south of it get lots. You can often see it on weather maps as a non snowy spot when a lot of surrounding areas are snowy.

nannynick · 03/12/2019 17:31

Which site is best for viewing GFS charts these days? Metcheck, WXcharts, NetWeather?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/12/2019 21:14

I like www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-bin/expertcharts

All the Highland newspapers are threatening snow by the end of next week and if they are to be believed it’s going to be bad. I’m desperately hoping they are wrong could really do without it.
