:)

First proper potential for the winter on Friday - if you live in the Peak district and parts of Scotland. Grin

It was so windy here last night! It was screaming around the end of the house & the wind chimes from next door we’re going mental (you can tell it’s a bad wind when I can actively hear them, after 9 years they’re normally just background noise). It’s dropped a little this morning & is lovely & sunny again.

Thursday is being forecast as torrential rain all day Hmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/12/2019 16:17

It does look like a pretty (wind) stormy week this week.

Been a horrible wet and windy weekend.
This week's weather looks totally nuts and all over the place. Wind, rain, snow and temps of 11C dropping to 1C in hours.

Currently forecast snow on Wednesday and Thursday, which if it comes off could be blizzard like due to the predicted winds. Don't know how much will settle due to the ground being warm and soaking.....Could end up just being more sideyways rain.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/12/2019 22:10

yeah, it will be a right messy mix for you Peri.

Further south, it's just stormy, wet and mild, this week and at the moment, probably beyond. What a turnaround in the models.

Weather warnings for tomorrow. Buckets of wind and rain.

Potential for some interesting weather tomorrow from mid afternoon into the evening as a potent cold front could bring some short lived very lively squalls as it crosses the UK from NW to SE.

One election day forecast for Edinburgh Grin

Well that's a pleasant day!

It does look as though northern hills will see some snow on Thursday.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/12/2019 08:14

So a lively cold front today will cross the UK, NW Scotland around 3pm, central UK around 6pm, clearing the SW by around 9pm. Cold front will weaken as it crosses, but certainly further north there could be some severe gusts and hail. Behind it a marked drop in temperatures.

Pretty wet and windy up here today snow keeps appearing on the forecast for the weekend but not sure how much we have I’ve warnings from the met office over the next couple of days too could do without any extremes of weather until at least the schools break up.

Perihelion · 10/12/2019 15:21

Lively squall line just gone through and piles more rain to come and a shop window blown in on Princes Street

Perihelion · 10/12/2019 15:33

Not Storm Brendan is doing rather a good job of acting like a named storm in Scotland Hmm

rhubarbcrumbles · 10/12/2019 16:53

It's doing a good job of generating electricity too - 30% of the supply!

I will now be wasting too much time on that website.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/12/2019 20:18

Squall line showing nicely.

Wet and wild in Glasgow today.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/12/2019 13:38

There is a slight risk of snow in hilly areas tonight in central England and East Anglia. (not so many hills there). Nothing really settling though. More of a risk further north over hilly areas. This risk continues for the north into the weekend. Saturday could see some decent fall over Scottish, Welsh and northern hills.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/12/2019 13:49

Actually we really need to watch Saturday! It could be an interesting day. The models are struggling to get a handle on it, depending on position and depth some central areas could see some significant snow, or they may not!
Be prepared to keep a close eye out!

AFingerofFudge · 11/12/2019 16:04

@OhYouBadBadKitten do you mean central England on Saturday? We'll be driving home (Peak District to Gloucestershire) late Saturday evening - anything to be concerned about??
Thanks for your continuing input on these threads!

fortyfourfeasts · 11/12/2019 19:35

Hurray! Snow watch thread. Checking in later than usual this year, working full time now but watching very closely as I have a 35 minute drive to work. Thanks for all the info so far kitten.
Xmas Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/12/2019 19:46

I'd keep an eye out on forecasts Fudge. Simply impossible to tell at this point, but yes, central England could see some snow.

You're welcome Forty :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/12/2019 15:06

Ok, so we need to keep an eye on potential severe gales in the South tomorrow night and then snow in central England on Saturday. As often is the case there's huge uncertainty depending on where the systems end up and how deep they form. But we've certainly plenty of weather to come.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/12/2019 13:27

A fair few trees down and a bit of travel disruption in the south today from squalls earlier.

OP posts:
KenAdams · 14/12/2019 21:02

Snow and ice warning issued for tonight and tomorrow across various areas of the UK.

Aragog · 14/12/2019 21:03

We had some snow flurries this evening on and off. Too wet to settle but definitely white falling from the sky. First I've seen this winter.

We are in Sheffield but high up.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/12/2019 21:26

So there are!
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2019-12-14

There's also the potential for some damaging winds, lightning and hail in the south tonight.

OP posts:
rhubarbcrumbles · 14/12/2019 22:32

A bit of snow in Berkshire earlier.
