Something to really watch. GFS model is really looking a bit crackers next week with high temps of perhaps 35c mid week and night minima in the mid 20s. I'll post more tomorrow, but it doesn't look like the traditional school holiday cool down

Bleary eyed this morning after last nights light show!! Had a few strikes near us but the main storm seemed further north/west.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/07/2019 06:49

I've got a really busy day later. Confused

The storms brought down the temperatures sharply over night (though it doesn't feel it now!) so I'm confident we didn't break any record night temperatures. But of course the down side is that it is going to be much more humid. It's not going to make a difference to today's temperatures. Not quite as hot as yesterday.

Tomorrow's temperatures still look extraordinary and perhaps we may break the all time record.

Huge storm here in east mids. Not sure of time, I didn't look.

Iambuffy · 24/07/2019 07:50

Blinds and curtains closed.
Windows closed.
But back door open.
I hate conservatories but I hate them most in this weather 😡

GloriaSmud · 24/07/2019 08:02

Had one thunderstorm here (Leicester) about 2am, then a 2nd one started around 3.40pm (just as I was about to doze off after being woken by the first one!) It was cooler afterwards but not a lot ~ we're still starting the day at 20C.
On the plus side, I won't need to make the early morning watering trip to the allotment that I was planning to do.

One top tip for those who have thermometers they can keep an eye on and the wind is low/non existent:

keep windows and doors open only while the outdoor temperature is lower than the indoor temperature. When they get close to each other, close windows and doors. There is no point in letting hot air in if there is no breeze.

Never seen a thunderstorm like that in my whole life. Woke at 1am and had nearly an hour of constant lightning and thunder rumbling around. Amazing. Then again about 3am.

House already like a sauna this morning though.

BlackeyedGruesome · 24/07/2019 08:23

I don't have to schelp up to church to water there either.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/07/2019 08:50

Heads up to commuters in the south. Southeastern are going to have a significantly reduced service tomorrow due to speed restrictions being brought in by network rail. I think it's possible that SWR may have to do the same (though there's nothing on their website)

I feel sick it's to hot :(
Trying to sip on some dilute squash to see it it helps but really struggling
Bloody hate this

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/07/2019 09:08

How is your salt intake Emma?

OP posts:
Emmabryant123 · 24/07/2019 09:10

Oh I'm not sure ?
I wouldn't say I eat more than a average amount of salt
My little girl is at nursery soon so even though I really need to clean I'm probably going to just lay down infront of the fan with a ice cold drink for a couple hours ...

LittleSwede · 24/07/2019 09:12

Emma, maybe take some rehydration fluids? I made the mistake of cutting the grass yesterday morning and felt quite nauseous afterwards. Cold drinks, a fan on face and a cool cloth on neck helped.

LittleSwede · 24/07/2019 09:15

Just filled the paddling pool for DD but am thinking it might already be too hot to even enter the garden!

Delatron · 24/07/2019 09:16

I have bifold glass doors on to the kitchen.
I think if I keep them closed with the sun on it’ll just be worse? Never quite know what to do.

Sorry for all those struggling. Rehydration sachets are great.

I think I might have slept through part of that second storm Gloria. It was still stupidly warm when I got up at 5.30.

My phone seems to think it’s already 22. Met office is saying 20.

Emmabryant123 · 24/07/2019 09:32

Thank you
Not quite sure how I made it through last summer
I am so looking forward to temps back to 20/21c
Fantastic photo above
We had a bit of thunder but it sounded quite far away
This was about 12.30am.

I remember last year the grass was all brown and dry by now wasn't it
This summer has been more bearable for me
Maybe one day I will start to love heat 😬😅

Emmabryant123 · 24/07/2019 09:33

My daughter is 3 and Everytime I put the fan on she says ' no that's to cold mummy. I like hot ' so not like her mum

colouringinpro · 24/07/2019 11:03

me too smel

GloriaSmud · 24/07/2019 11:08

RafaIsTheKingOfClay ~ I think the 2nd lot of thunder/lightning was only for 5-10 minutes and it was mostly rain after that.

Another thunderstorm warning for tomorrow through 'til Friday has been issued by the metoffice.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/07/2019 11:18

I think that if you normally have quite a low salt intake, and healthy blood pressure then adding a tiny pinch of salt to drinks in this can help fainty feelings. Sweating so much and only replacing the fluid but not the electrolytes can make you feel poorly.

It is continuing to look more likely that we will break the all time record tomorrow.

It says 32 today and potentially 39 tomorrow. Please tell me that's a typo.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/07/2019 11:52

Its not a typo.
