I know it will seem quite crackers to start this when the weekend has been so lovely, but we are starting to get some model consistency on GFS for the potential for snow Friday night into Saturday as a northerly plunge looks set to take place.

Primary risk areas are obviously for hillier parts of Scotland and also Wales, but higher ground in the south and south east including over dartmoor and down the east coast may also see some sleet or wet snow.

Snow shower in York! Now turned to rain like but was a shock to open the curtains and see great big chunky flakes coming down.

Flyingsouthwiththeswallows · 27/10/2018 09:11

Snowing here for the last hour in rural Yorkshire !!

Oreocrumbs · 27/10/2018 09:11

Snow here in High Peak. Very light though. Looks like a heavy frost.

Chosennonetosurvivethenight · 27/10/2018 09:26

Peak District. Very tiny, fine flickery snow the past hour or so ❄❄

ILikeyourHairyHands · 27/10/2018 09:30

You must be near me Chosen.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2018 10:28

It's very rude of the snow to have not at least waited until the clocks have changed!

I'm impressed it's settling actually.

Had sleet followed by some snow just north of York today

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 27/10/2018 10:58

GloriaSmud · 27/10/2018 11:21

As it's been snowing in some areas of the country, think it's time to bring this website out for the winter!

I also see from Twitter that the Durham snow has been pretty impressive for such an early start to the season.

I'm at the foot of Snowdon and when I woke up this morning there was frozen hail on our flat roof! 8am, so not even early! There was snow on the mountains too and it's the Snowdon marathon today...

Perihelion · 27/10/2018 17:48

No snow here, but the wind is bitter.
Warned DD that it would be Baltic playing hockey, but she didn't really believe me apart from putting on leggings.....spent half the match unable to feel her hands and dropping net stick.

I realise that I partly want a re-run of last winter, because stupidly early Saturday morning hockey was cancelled more often than not Wink. ( And I love snow Grin )

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2018 17:58

The occasional flake of snow now on the A505 Grin

After finding out last winter that Scotland has named gritting lorries, it seems Shropshire does too and given the name 'Gritty McGritface' to their new one along with "Gritney Spears", "David Plowie" and "Usain Salt."

(I do like some of the names that didn't make it ~ Spready Mercury and Nicole Saltslinger Grin )

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2018 21:31

Very cool!

It seems that it did snow properly in St Albans for a bit tonight. It's a little silly.

A lovely Autumnal day here (Leicester), if a little chilly. Think there might be some scraping of car windows in the morning as it's down to 3.4C

It's the start of Diwali for the city tonight and usually, especially if the weather's good, there would be loads of fireworks going off about now but apart from the odd one, it's all quiet.
I think it can be said that Leicester has had better days Sad
