I know it will seem quite crackers to start this when the weekend has been so lovely, but we are starting to get some model consistency on GFS for the potential for snow Friday night into Saturday as a northerly plunge looks set to take place.

Primary risk areas are obviously for hillier parts of Scotland and also Wales, but higher ground in the south and south east including over dartmoor and down the east coast may also see some sleet or wet snow.

thenewaveragebear

Here in worcs it snowed very hard at 3-6pm

Whereabouts in Worcs? DB is in Worcs and hadn't had any!

On my travels in Wales this morning it was varying between -7 and -4.

LadyRochfordsIcedGusset · 30/01/2019 18:35

Not far from you shecame, yes melting and getting slushy, not looking forward to tomorrow either.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2019 18:45

Perhaps further inland Titsy. I'm not too worried now about that prospect now.

Soo Wimbledon Surrey? We NEVER get snow. Will we? Will we?????

Vitalogy · 30/01/2019 19:26

Non here yet in the Midlands, maybe tomorrow, so we'll see.

megletthesecond · 30/01/2019 19:29

North Hampshire here. Tomorrow evening looks promising.

And I've just remembered the sledge broke at the end of last winter 🤦‍♀️.

GloriaSmud · 30/01/2019 19:30

At the moment Mof3K, you could be waking up to a covering on Friday morning!

GloriaSmud · 30/01/2019 19:34

That's probably why it's looking promising for you, meglet.
I've been polishing my sledge all winter and I've probably knackered the chances for the whole of the East Midlands now!

Grace212 · 30/01/2019 19:36

we were spared any settling snow for the ashes ceremony today - thank goodness, not just because of the stress of it but how much dad would have hated being scattered in snow - well, we couldn't have done it.

now wondering if there's snow for Essex tomorrow night, less stressful of course but still - roll on...May?!

mrsdolittle · 30/01/2019 19:48

Cotswolds here. Local weather forecast says we'll probably get something Thursday night. How much is the question!!

Very much wanting a snow day on Friday 😀

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2019 20:40

That's really good news Grace, I hope it was a good ceremony and that you are ok this evening.

It does look probable that Essex will see some snow tomorrow night. I can't really give specific amounts though.

That's a good discussion by Brian,

oh! I've just seen freezing fog warnings for many central areas. Take great care driving in the morning, it will be unpleasant where fog forms.

I think it's going to snow massively in Worcestershire; DB has just informed me that he has taken his kids old sled to the charity shop because 'they never get any snow'

Sorry Worcestershire folk, it's inevitable that you will get shed loads of the stuff now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2019 21:12

The latest models has it more south and west again. Wales looks to get the worst. Central southern areas and the south west get a reasonable amount. There still isn't very good model consensus though.

Check the warning areas tomorrow morning and be prepared for a troublesome commute home tomorrow night.

Any snow forecast for north east area? There was some on the forecast a few days ago and nothing at all now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2019 21:16

No, I don't think so.

Justyou · 30/01/2019 21:31

Oh no the kids will be gutted. It’s weird seeing lots of snow down the country but none at all here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2019 21:33

There's plenty of winter left yet, with one model hinting of some easterlies second week of Feb. That would favour you much more.

@megletthesecond my met office app is showing heavy from the evening....(also north hampshire) I'm working until 9pm, no buses usually so a snowy walk home (I hope)

backinthebox · 30/01/2019 22:06

I got home from Saudi Arabia. It can snow now! 😁

We had one of our Middle Eastern crew members come up for landing and he was most disappointed at the lack of actual snow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2019 22:21

I'm off to bed so new thread for when this is full :) welcome back backinthebox!

Morning, -5 with a 'feels like' of -9

expecting snow from about 3pm (south shropshire, looks on gfs like we only just make it into the main precip area now)
