I know it will seem quite crackers to start this when the weekend has been so lovely, but we are starting to get some model consistency on GFS for the potential for snow Friday night into Saturday as a northerly plunge looks set to take place.

Primary risk areas are obviously for hillier parts of Scotland and also Wales, but higher ground in the south and south east including over dartmoor and down the east coast may also see some sleet or wet snow.

@PestoSurfissimos In Maine. Going out for a bar ride now and it's soooo cold!

platesandflowers · 26/10/2018 21:08

Boat ride lol. I wish it were a bar ride!

Seaelf · 26/10/2018 21:18

A939 snow gates have been closed due to heavy snowfall. This is a high level road and usually one of the first to be closed.

beenrumbled · 26/10/2018 22:19

Apparently the snow gates at Tomintoul Have been closed

PestoSurfissimos · 26/10/2018 22:31

Grin platesandflowers

Lobsters and skiing, what a combination

platesandflowers · 26/10/2018 23:58

We actually checked our lobster traps tonight on the way home and we have 8 lobsters! So it will be lobster for dinner tomorrow!

platesandflowers · 26/10/2018 23:59

I'm telling you all.... winter is coming. We've had crazy hot summers everywhere, watch out for crazy cold winter.

nannynick · 27/10/2018 06:41

Braemar Snowgate (A93) is closed but image only showing a little snow. So probably due to ice and snow at Glenshee ski centre area - their webcams may show that in daylight.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 27/10/2018 07:14

We’ve just got rain forecast in the south-east. Did have a short hail shower yesterday though.

Can’t believe snow watch has started!

Xiaoxiong · 27/10/2018 07:35

Hail on and off all day yesterday in Cornwall of all places! In one week we've gone from basking in sunshine at the beach and swimming in the sea, to woolly hats and gloves at night. I doubt there will be proper snow anytime soon though.

@platesandflowers my relatives in Maine are seeing plenty of snow as well - up past Grafton Notch. Where are you? We spent part of the summer on Vinalhaven eating our body weight in lobster

nannynick · 27/10/2018 08:25

My mum has a little snow. Down the road from Balmoral Castle.

Snow watch!

For those down the eastern side, into the south I think the best chance of a few wet flakes mixed in will be later today as the heavy rain goes through, especially over higher ground. It won't settle.

Hail showers aplenty today I think.

It's snowing here - rural Durham.
It won't lie though, too wet !
